Man, less than a week left before all the Halloween festivities and I still don’t really know what to do for a costume. And any comments about being too old for trick or treating needs to recapture their spirit of the season.
Dude, no one should tell you that you’re too old to trick or treat. Granted, I haven’t done it in awhile, but I’d love to get into it again. But what’s your ideas for a costume, if you have any?

His words were repeated over and over in her head. Just when she thought things could be happy and normal, Jake had to throw a wrench into things. Wasn’t that the way her life always went? He was a dancer. An exotic one. What was he thinking? “Jake,” she murmured his name softly as she held her hand up towards him to motion for him to stop talking. How was she supposed to wrap her head around this one? “So, you thought that was the next best thing? Are you kidding me?” Quinn tried her best not to judge, but it was hard to pretend that wasn’t the type of person she was. “I need time.”
When she held her hand up, he slowly looked down. Jake had a feeling that he knew exactly what Quinn was going to say, and he already started dreading even telling her. But if they were going to start a relationship, he needed to be honest with her. At her questions, he closed his eyes tightly. Honestly, it wasn’t the most ideal situation, but it paid the bills. It also wasn’t a horrible job, since he got to dance. “I know, I--,” he started, but was cut off by Quinn. He nodded quickly, still sitting there for a moment. His movements slowed down as he leaned over and pressed a kiss to her cheek, letting it linger there for longer than what he normally would. “Hopefully, I’ll see you around,” Jake said before he stood up, starting to walk back the direction that they came from. His hands were in his pockets, chin almost to his chest, feeling defeated.

Quinn gave Jake a slightly triumphant smile. If being stubborn was a superpower, Quinn was Super Woman. She squeezed his hand and laughed softly, “Normally I’d consider that a good thing, but it has only hindered our relationship.” It was unfortunate, but true. She had beaten around the bush that was their relationship for far too long. She hid from her feelings because she was scared and regretted her past decisions. Quinn shook her head, ”That’s alright. We were kids, Jake. Stupid kids. It doesn’t matter anymore.” She quieted after knowing that there was something he wanted to tell her. Whatever it was, it couldn’t be that bad, right? She doubted it. However, it didn’t stop the small gasp that left her lips when he told her. She hadn’t been expecting that. “What?!”
Jake laughed at her words before nodding. “You’re right. It has, but that’s okay. Maybe we just weren’t prepared to be together. Now, maybe we are.” He shrugged as he smiled. No matter how much he wanted to be with her, he always put her first. Maybe it was just never the right time, and Jake accepted that. “We were definitely stupid about one thing, but I don’t regret it for a second.” Looking down, his smiled turned into a grin. Waiting for her response, all that he heard was a gasp and his face fell. “I know,” he said, softly. “I know.” He took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. “The studio wouldn’t take me over the summer, and I wanted to dance.” Licking his lips, Jake didn’t want to look at her. “If this makes you not want to be with me, I’ll understand.” He kept his head down, not knowing what to think.

The expression on Jake’s face wasn’t one that Quinn would ever forget. She supposed this moment was a long time coming. However, due to certain circumstances it had just taken them a bit longer to realize what they had together wasn’t going anywhere. “A long time?” She asked with a stupid grin upon her face, “I probably should have admitted it sooner. You know how stubborn I am.” A brow rose when he spoke and she tilted her head to the side as she thought, “We’ll work through it. I want to do this. But only if you want to.” She paused when he said something about his job. What about it? Catching the expression upon his face, she asked, “What is it, Jake?”
Nodded at her question and then again at her statement. “I think you’re the most stubborn woman I know, that I’m not related to.” He smiled for a moment before he saw her face. The smile immediately fell, knowing that he needed to tell her. “Of course I want this. I’ve wanted this when we first started sleeping together, but I know that things were never easy. Especially in high school.” A sigh escaped him before he grabbed her hands, covering them with his. “Okay. So..uh,” he paused, shaking his head. “I’ve actually been wanting to tell you for awhile now, but I just didn’t know how. Here it goes.” Eyes moved to look into hers, wanting to see the expression on her face. “I’m a male exotic dancer, or most people call it a male stripper.” The birds in his stomach were back as his leg started to bounce, nerves kicking in all over again.

The only other person I know that works there is Quinn, so I’m thinking that might be the person you’re talking about? I don’t exactly work with her per say. But I have met her a time or two. If I could pick, it would have to be something strong like whiskey. But at the moment all I had was wine. It was either that or nothing.
That’s exactly who I’m talking about. It’s good to kind of work with someone that you know. That’s more of my type of drink. Well, that and tequila. If wine is all you’ve got, you’ve got to make it work.

Being an intern at a law office has its perks, but at least it’s getting me somewhere. Well, somewhat anyway. I think wine is definitely the necessity tonight.

Quinn didn’t know what she was doing. All she knew was in that moment, she wanted nothing more than to kiss Jake and that was what she did. Things in her life never seemed like they were simple and she was sure that if she decided to actually be in a relationship with Jake, it wouldn’t be easy. It would be difficult, but she didn’t want easy with anyone else. When they broke the kiss, she just smiled at his expression. Brushing her blonde hair from her eyes, she murmured, “I love you. Do you think we should finally give this a try? Being together?”
When she just smiled, Jake furrowed his eyebrows for a moment, confused by her smile. Hearing those three words leave her lips caused his heart to flutter, and his smile widened. “Do you know how long I’ve been waiting to hear these words?” He shook his head, smile still on his face. “I would love to give us a try, Q. I know it won’t be easy, and I’m not the easiest person to date. Especially with my job, which.. I need to tell you about.” Remembering what he does for a living, his stomach started to knot up, nerves building as his face fell, smiling leaving. With them finally giving them being an ‘us’ a shot, she needed to know about him being a male exotic dancer.

If she were being completely honest, Quinn guessed that she didn’t quite know what she wanted. She loved Jake - no matter how much she denied it - she knew that she loved him. It wasn’t only because of the daughter they had given up; she loved him before Jade. Her feelings had never really gone away. Her breath caught slightly in her throat when Jake told her how he felt and it wasn’t just because she was out of breath from their running. She didn’t speak - she couldn’t - but she silently followed him towards the bench that he led her to. For the life of her, she couldn’t find the words, but she sat down next to him. He loved her. Without another word, the blonde grabbed his face into her hands and pressed her lips against his. There wasn’t much more she could say.
When he sat down, Jake just looked at Quinn, waiting for a reply or something to come from her. The next thing she did shocked him. The male froze, caught off guard. It took him a moment or two to comprehend what was going on before he kissed her back. His whole body melted once he had gotten over the fact that Quinn, the woman that has his heart, was kissing him. After a moment, he pulled away, lips parted. “Whoa,” he said, using his thumb to wipe underneath his bottom lip. “What was that for?”

I really hate working at the bookstore now. Some customers really need to learn how not to yell at me while Im getting their change, it doesnt make me go faster. It only makes my anxiety high and it makes me lose count, then it makes me feel frustrated.This is why I told them not to put me on the cash registers.
Maybe just talk to them about keeping you off the register? That’s what I’d do, but people would handle things differently than what I would.

Quinn grimaced slightly as she turned away from Jake for a moment, pretending to stretch. She had slipped up and it had been quite obvious. She only hoped that he wouldn’t call her out on it. Both of them knew the history that neither could ever quite forget. However, he didn’t need to know how she felt. Especially when she was pretty sure he didn’t feel the same. Chewing on her lower lip, she continued to stretch as her lungs caught the air they desired. She stopped dead in her tracks when he asked her if she was sure. Her pulse began to quicken and it wasn’t due to the exercise. No, she wasn’t sure. She wasn’t sure of anything anymore. The headstrong, stubborn girl that everyone knew her to be melted around Jake. Quinn didn’t know how to answer Jake. Was that what he wanted? To be more than friends? Hazel eyes peered over at him in a questioning manner as her brain seemed to forget how to process words. “I–I don’t know what I want. What do you want?”
When Quinn stopped running, it took Jake a few strides to realize she wasn’t beside him anymore. Eyebrows furrowed together in confusion before he turned back to look at her, placing his hands on his hips, trying to catch his breath. Seeing her reaction to his question though, his heart kind of fell into his stomach. Maybe she didn’t want to be more than friends? Maybe she didn’t see him that way anymore? He glanced down at the sidewalk before walking towards Quinn. At her question, Jake was debating on the fact of kissing her right then and there. “I want whatever makes you happy.” He sighed, trying to calm his breathing down still. “I love you, Quinn. I always have and I probably always will. Hell, you’re the mother of my child, and even if we don’t have her, it still means a lot to me.” Looking around, Jake spotted a bench before taking Quinn’s hand in his. He walked over to the bench and sat down before letting go of her hand. She didn’t have to sit down, but if they were going to talk about it, maybe they both needed to.

“It always happens. It’s pretty much inevitable,” Quinn agreed with a small laugh. At least they could both admit what happened every time they drank together. She would say she honestly didn’t mind, but it’d be a lie. Things between them were always confusing and their sleeping together never helped. “You can drink,” she offered, “I’ll stay sober. That should help, right?” There was really no way to tell until they tried it. She nodded when he told her that he’d let her know. Maybe they wouldn’t even end up going together. Maybe they had nothing to worry about. She stopped for a few moments to catch her breath and hydrate. Quinn smiled slightly at his response. They were friends (no matter how much she wanted more). “Yeah..” she trailed off, hazel eyes looking away briefly, “Of course, we’re friends.”
Nodded as he ran beside her, a smile playing at his lips. His head flashed with memories of their times together. Every time was special, at least to him. He had no idea if it was special to her. As soon as alcohol ever touched his lips, his thoughts automatically went to the blonde that was running beside him, stride for stride. “Yeah, maybe,” he said as they stopped. Hearing her response to his question, his brown eyes looked at her, noticing her facial change. “Are you sure we’re friends? I mean, your face just did a thing.” His lungs were burning, trying to get some air. “Or do you want to be more than friends? I just..it’s okay if you do.” To hear her say yes would make him the happiest guy in the world. His heart was pretty much hers, rather she knew or not. Rather she liked it or not.

Quinn did her best not to stare when Jake removed his tank top. She took a look for a brief moment and adverted her hazel eyes quickly after. It was hard not to stare, but she did her best to not make it totally obvious. She smiled, “Of course. As long as we don’t get drunk, it shouldn’t be a problem at all.” They both knew quite well what she was referring to. The closest either of them could come to admitting any sort of lingering feelings or the truth was when they were far from sober. It’d be difficult for her to think clearly, so she’d have to steer clear of alcohol. “Just let me know,” she clarified. Matching his strides, the blonde looked over at Jake as they ran. She laughed, “I’d ask for a massage, but I don’t want to push my luck.”
“See,” he started, shaking his head. “That’s what I told Parker. We’d be fine as long as we don’t drink because then we always wind up sleeping together.” Eyes fell on Quinn before he continued speaking. “Unfortunately, I don’t do well at weddings unless there’s alcohol in my system.” He tilted his head for a moment before stretching his legs a bit. When they started running again, Jake kept up with Quinn with ease. It had just been awhile since he actually ran like he had back in high school. “I’ll let you know.” Hearing her laugh, he smiled, looking over at her. “I’ll give you a massage, Quinn. That’s not a problem. We’re at least friends, yeah?”

“You talk big, Puckerman. But we both know you’re actually a big teddy bear,” Quinn informed Jake with a smile. Thankfully she was clear minded and wasn’t drunk. If he had said it when she was drunk, she would have invited him over willingly. Instead, she just smiled to herself, and continued to jog at a steady pace. She almost stopped dead in her tracks when he asked her to be his date, but played it off gracefully and stopped for a moment to take a drink from her water bottle. Finally, she nodded, “Sure, I wouldn’t mind. I always love a good wedding. It’ll be fun.” As long as they stayed sober, they wouldn’t fall into their usual rut. She continued to jog after a few moments of rest, making sure that Jake had kept up before speaking again. “I’m fine, really. I run to help with the stress, so technically you’re already helping.”
A laugh escaped him, and they both knew it was true. “Just because I’m awesome doesn’t mean that I can’t be a teddy bear too.” He continued to run beside her until she stopped. Jake continued to jog in place, taking a sip of his water. The male was already starting to sweat, so he took his slid his tank top of, sliding part of it into the waistband of his shorts. “Really? Well, Parks is supposed to keep me updated on if DJ wants to go or not, but as soon as I know anything, I’ll let you know.” Once she took off again, it didn’t take long for Jake to catch up. “Oh okay. Well, other than running, if I can do anything, just let me know, okay?” Strides matched Quinn’s again as they continued to run, trying to de-stress their lives.

The blonde quirked an eyebrow, “I guess you’re alright. Not half bad.” Her tone was teasing and her smile proved it. Most of the time it was difficult for her to be around Jake. There was history between them that she never could quite shake, no matter how much she wanted to sometimes. Quinn couldn’t tell anyone how she felt; Parker didn’t even know half of it. She shot him a concerned look when he spoke. “It sounds like you could use a break. Is there anything I can help you with?” She matched his strides, a bit more time passing before she answered, “Everything is fine. Stressful, but nothing I can’t handle.”
“Psh. Alright my ass. Don’t make me come over there, Fabray.” Jake smirked, a sigh escaping through his nose. If one she knew how his heartbeat fluttered every time he looked at her or when his heart skips a beat whenever someone mentions her name. Jake’s got it bad for Quinn Fabray, and she doesn’t even know it. “Actually,” he said, taking a few more strides. “I got invited to a wedding, and I need a date. There’s a possibility that Parker and I might go together, but she has to ask DJ first to see if he’s going or not.” Jake took a few more strides. “Is that something you’d be interested in?” He took her words in, comprehending them. “Anything I can do to help you handle the stress?” Eyes were now on her as they continued to run.

Quinn just smirked, “Don’t be rude, Puckerman. You know I was only teasing.” It was sort of nice that the two of them could finally be in the same room, let alone joke with each other. After the birth and adoption of their daughter, things between them were tense. Only within the past few months had everything began to get better. She couldn’t help but notice, however, that he barely would look at her. She wouldn’t ask. “Alright, then, let’s go,” she nodded, before leading the way in a steady jog. After a few moments, she asked, “How are you? How is everything going?”
“I wasn’t being rude, Fabray. You’re the one that told me that I was only sub-par awesome, which is a complete lie. I’m completely awesome and you know it.” He tugged at his shirt for a quick second. Pulling his phone from his pocket, he wanted to check the time. Mashing the button, the picture that he took of Quinn and Jade after she was born was his lock screen and background of his phone. “Alright,” he said before locking his phone again, shoving it into his pocket. Jake followed quickly, staying beside her, but closest to the road, in case a car decided to jump the curb. At her questions, he glanced at the blonde, feet almost in sync with hers. “I’m alright I guess. Things are..draining, to say the least. I’ve been pretty busy here recently.” After a few strides, he returned the question. “What about you? Everything going okay?”

She’d be lying if she said she didn’t carry a torch for the boy who had shown up at her door. Quinn was sure that a part of her still loved Jake, but that era had passed and he rarely even looked her way anymore. “Did you give yourself that title? I’d call you sub-par at most,” she teased, closing the door to her apartment behind them with her water bottle in hand. Her hazel eyes roamed their surroundings and her shoulders lifted into a shrug. “I hadn’t planned that part out yet. We could run through the park and around the lake? It’s only a couple of miles.”
At her question, he pretended to be shocked, gasping. “Well, fuck you too, Quinn Fabray. I see how it is.” Shaking his head, Jake looked down, making sure his shoes were tied. He didn’t want to look at Quinn too much because he’d just stare, and that was something that he’d always do when looking at her. Stare. And her in those clothes, he was bound to stare. “Oh okay. Yeah, I’m down for that route. A couple of miles is no problem.” He smiled, eyes lifting to look at her.
