do you ever think about that street and wonder if buck took it on his way to work? did he have to drive by that stain on the road knowing that it was eddie’s blood that left it? did he have to relive that moment every time? or did he alter his route to work, getting there 15 minutes late every day because he couldn’t bear to see it? did it keep him up at night knowing that smear on the asphalt would haunt his dreams if he closed his eyes? did he go out there himself one day with a bucket and a brush to try scrubbing the mark out? did he scrub his hands bloody and raw on the same pavement where he watched his best friend shot down not ten feet in front of him? did he ever tell eddie about it or is it his dirty little secret? does he go there sometimes after a really bad call, like the hostage situation, to just stare at the stain and think ‘at least it wasn’t as bad as this’? the stain that’s so faint now that to anyone else it’s just a mark on the road. but not to buck. he’ll always know what it is. he knows that there’s life before and life after. that his life is as permanently blemished as the road on which he stands.

I know Buddie shippers have really been hoping that Buck and Eddie are constantly reminded in this episode and the next that working with other partners isn't the same as working with each other. And I think that's fine. But I'm glad that this episode also showed us that, for Hen, working with Eddie absolutely isn't the same as working with Chim. They were polite to each other but she still needed to see Chim at the end of the episode and make sure he was coming back. I'm glad that her perspective was a priority for the show as well.
