so anyway Eddie starts by seeing it as some kind of petty payback for all the times that Buck sabotaged his potential renters. he’s finally embracing the juice or whatever and so he’s indulging. and that means fucking with bucks potential places. so he starts pointing out things wrong with potential listings. small kitchen. No natural light. the layout is weird. and Buck listens to him. of course he does. Eddie has a silver star and he would never steer Buck wrong, right? wrong. it’s been months now and Buck still hasn’t found a place. they’ve graduated to sharing the bed because that long on a couch is hell on their backs. Eddie hasn’t actually bothered getting another car in LA because well they just carpool everywhere. and bucks never minded driving Chris places. anyway Eddie ends up on bucks insurance and they’re sharing a house and a car and a son. and this is totally normal for them right? no one thinks it’s weird. Maddie isn’t pulling her hair out, Chim wdym that’s just the newborn stage kicking in! and they’re operating fine on this, taking Chris back to school shopping, working the same schedule, driving Cap Chim up the wall (Bobby is alive here and retired okay!) and they’re fine, totally fine until Ravi one day stops them and asks them if they finally got it together and got remarried and their brains both explode with that thought :)

Buck thought Eddie left. Buck thought Eddie and Chris went back to Texas because Eddie had to report to El Paso FD at 7am. He thought Eddie was leaving again and he was going to be alone. He said goodbye to Eddie and Chris and said he was going to transfer and then got called to a building collapse and he was trapped and they didn't know how they were going to get out before the building fully came down. And he then heard Eddie's voice on the radio and he looked up and Eddie was there with a fucking line gun to get them out.

Buck thought Eddie left and then Eddie was right there with a lifeline because he actually didn't leave because he couldn't leave when his family was in danger. Eddie was there on the other end of Buck's line and the look on his face when he landed on that rooftop felt like Buck was looking at a miracle. Because it was a miracle. Because he thought Eddie was on a plane back to Texas and instead Eddie came back and saved Buck.

Eddie is the first person since Maddie to leave Buck and then come back.

i also think buddie is very interesting because to ME. actually the emotional infidelity is a key piece of their dynamic. to ME!!! like when i’m watching the show it’s like actually very important that their relationships never work out but they’re giving each other the devotion and dedication they should give their partners. they have been locked in an intense affair since they met. sorry
