so, yeah. this is a problem. it’s actually been a problem for a while, and while several posts have been made commenting on said problem, nothing’s really changed. gif making/edits are the majority of original content made on this site. it’s honestly the main reason why so many people are still on tumblr, and it’s what differentiates the site from others. but when stuff like this keeps happening, it’s hard for us to even want to stick around.
look, no one’s saying you have to reblog every single gifset that pops up on your dash. you’re welcome to like the things you want to like. but you should also consider reblogging as much as you can. queue a post if you don’t feel like reblogging it right away. like a post and then reblog it at a later time. we appreciate likes, but they don’t help us if everyone is liking the post instead of reblogging it. and with the way things are going, it’s difficult to imagine the creator scene staying as large as it is right now.
“Oh no, my popular posts have the wrong kind of popularity, this is a serious problem that other people should fix by altering their behaviour.” dude chill.
That’s not what OP said.
If you are a content creator there is absolutely no way for you to get known on Tumblr, specifically, without getting reblogs. Likes do nothing - most of the time you can’t see other people’s likes. Other websites will show you works that got a lot of likes (Twitter in particular), but Tumblr doesn’t.
It’s a nice thought, to give content you enjoyed a like, but it’s incredibly disheartening as a creator to see your work getting nothing but likes.
And the other problem is that it used to be the opposite? You used to reliably get an even amount of reblogs and likes, often even more reblogs than likes.
Artists and other content creators rely on visibility to ever have a chance at recognition for their work - monetary or otherwise. And likes do squat in that regard.
OP has every right to be annoyed, don’t misinterpret their point to try and make them sound whiny when they have a legitimate grievance.
I am a ‘content creator’. For years. And my goodness if I were regularly getting thousands of notes on my posts I would not be complaining about the ratio. I’d make a flip comment about giant MCU gifs but apparently OP has enough visibility to make that work for stills from a two-decade-old movie so, uh, well done OP.
to be honest i wasn’t even going to reply to this because i know people like you are too closed-minded to change your viewpoint, but your responses still pissed me off. a) you’re getting worked up over a post that was made nearly two months ago. b) the only reason why i get “thousands” of notes on my post is by accurately tagging people in them (source blogs, mutuals, etc.). i wouldn’t have much “visibility” otherwise. and seeing how your original content only has one tag if not more, your lack of notes is something that you can fix by tagging people in your sets. c) as i’ve stated numerous times to people who have called me “selfish” or “whiny” (over a post meant to address a problem affecting ALL content creators, not just myself) the number of notes a post has is not the problem, the ratio between the two is. if you can’t understand that, that is on you.
OP: *makes a valid, well articulated, long thought out explanation of why the content creators on this site are slowly starting to not post anymore and how the main source of content on this site is fading away due to the lack of support for them*

do you mind explaining how you colored that gif of tony closing his eyes in that gifset you posted??? i've tried coloring it before and i cannot figure out how u did it
yeah sure!!!
after sharpening it (i usually do that first because i think it looks better under coloring) i adjusted the curves & put a standard b&w layer on it!
then i created a new layer and using a large brush (mine was around 200px) with 0% hardness i used different shades of pink and blue to draw right on top of the gif. when you set that layer to ‘overlay’ it looks just like the gif on the right!
Can you rec some Colorful marvel blogs?
Sure! i reblog a lot of colorful marvel stuff from @buckystarks, @scottzlang, @perfectopposite, @marvelgifs, @wandasmaximoff and @mcugraphics :)
i hope they'll remember you.
