the thing about buddie is that they’ve done almost every single romantic trope without the part at the end where they get together and i think that’s a true dedication the writers must have to their craft

thinking about buck choosing not to tell eddie about whatever is really going on and what he may be taking - because say that, even if it's actually all above board, and buck is taking medication for its intended purpose under some kind of physician's direction - "war" proved to buck that if he tells eddie, eddie will likely expect buck to tell everyone, and that could cost him firefighting again. just like it almost cost hen. just like it almost cost buck before, after the pulmonary embolism. like god. they went through this together, but what if this comes down to being a trust thing- because when the stakes are highest and it's life or death, they have each other's backs and will go to any lengths, and buck knows that... but when it's their mundane daily lives, especially after the last two years they've had, does buck trust eddie with that?

Genuinely can't stop thinking about the reunion scene. Eddie rushing over to Buck, so terrified for him and searching with his hands. Begging him to look- and then reassuring him over and over again. Holding him so softly- not letting go the whole time. Both of them so relieved. And then Buck making a lil joke and they're both laughing and smiling and they're so so happy to be together again and okay. And the way they're glowing and radiating absolute pure love and fondness to each other. Scene of all time !!

lots of thoughts on buck’s pill popping being pain medication substance abuse/addition and like yes i get it i see it but right now im really stuck on it being medication for anxiety or trauma stress related issues. not something he’s abusing but something he’s ashamed of needing in the first place. something about the way it’s framed as buck leaving part of himself back in new mexico. the darkness surrounding him when we hint at what’s going on. how he can’t bring himself to have a casual dinner with two of his favorite people. not until he has time to prepare and is shaking with the effort of putting on a front as soon as they leave. how he cracks when eddie confirms that he appears fine. that the facade is holding better than he hoped it would. that he might be hoping it would be seen through. the faux casual dismissal of the source of the stress in the first place. that all screams anxiety disorder in a way that accidentally growing a reliance on pain meds or seeking a numbing high hasn’t quite clicked for me yet

buck hasn’t ever really dealt with anxiety before. with panic attacks. with irrational fear when he should be in a safe space. he’s dealt with tons of trauma. debilitating pain and injuries. near death experiences. emotionally neglectful parents. feeling unloved. unwanted. like he has to give everything, his body, his life, to anyone who will take it to feel some inkling of that loved returned. but he hasn’t really dealt with the emotional off-balance of a fear response to the ordinary. of not being in touch with his own emotions in his own body. maybe even that he doesn’t want to admit that this event has this power over him. that it could take something away from him he took for granted before. feeling safe in his mind and in his body. not being able to be the fun loving buck to the people in his life who look to him for that would hit him hard. would cause him to try and put up the front of it and not tell anyone he’s falling apart. now that he has people who rely on him and need him he’ll do anything to prevent losing that. doesn’t want anything to compromise them feeling like they can rely on him. that he doesn’t want to make it their problem because it’s a by-product of a problem of a problem that he doesn’t even have the words for when he’s experiencing it, doesn’t want to be experiencing it, so it’s better to try and get over it himself before it affects anyone else

but you know who has dealt with similar experiences? maddie and eddie

The doctors refuse to write Buck refills for his prescriptions so he takes matters into his own hands, falling in with the wrong crowd. He finds a man who supplies him and soon Buck starts seeing that man as his saviour and starts a relationship with him.

Eddie despises the man, even though he looks so normal and is always pleasant with them all. Eddie just knows something isn’t right.

Eddie starts shit with the man to get his true colors out and lo and behold the man starts talking shit about Buck, calling him names and telling him he’s pathetic while Buck just stands there listening, looking frightened to death.

Eddie loses his shit and finally gets to put his mma training from the fight club to use and doesn’t hold back.

Say whatever you want about him, but don’t you ever talk about Buck or scare him like that.

Just gonna say I’m so very heartbroken for Buck. I don’t think this latest development is strictly because of Bonnie and Earl. I think it’s a culmination of the last two years:

Losing Chris, “losing” Tommy, losing Eddie, then losing Bobby. And all the micro-traumas experienced in between all of those bigger moments—like the Billy Boils thing, or Maddie being kidnapped by a serial killer.

We think we see the peak of all this just after Bobby’s funeral, in the Kitchen Fight Scene™️, but we didn’t. It’s still festering, unspoken, this wound of unhandled grief. It’s maybe scabbed over a bit, but the thing with Bonnie tears that scab right off, and now we’re faced with the mess that was hiding underneath.

We all knew Buck wasn’t okay. But the fact that he’s so damn close to repeating Bobby’s mistakes is killing me. It would break Bobby’s heart, too. Frankly, this would be a perfect segue to the fan-favorite theory that Bobby’s alive in a secret government lab somewhere, and he escapes just in time to save Buck from himself.

But since Tim Minear hates fans, Bobby won’t come back. Instead, we have to hope that somehow Eddie will see through Buck’s bullshit and get him help before it’s too late.

Okay, so here's the thing, when something is in between Buck and Eddie.

It is usually

Physically

Between them.

Kinda like the way the first 3rd of the season always had someone in the middle.

But during 914, there's nothing between them at any point.

Like, when you compare the shots in 905 and 913, it is clear that they are trying to not let any obstacles between them, like the door or the pillar.

And those are virtually the same scene when it comes to the blocking, but 913 is very careful not to let anything in the middle.

In fact, a lot of the times you can see both of them in the frame somehow. Even some of the close-ups have the other partially in frame

Something that's not real at first, let's say, during 306 at the station.

Or 809.

This isn't really getting in the way of their relationship, since we are seeing both of them at all time, it almost feels like they want us to see all sides in the same way they will eventually end up seeing all sides of this, the same way they evolve into being in frame all times.

So I'm assuming this will evolve to have the same effect as the framing choices around Eddie's breakdown where they used the sides of the frame to show Eddie letting Buck in.

I think here they'll play with focus until Eddie manages to see the situation clearly.
