this is what i've been saying for a long time. i'm tired of the west only caring about this stuff when it happens to white / wealthy people.

(t reminds me of the western media's reporting when russia attacked ukraine a few years back and how out of proportion it was from all the other war aggression tragedies that were going on. it's almost like the victims' skin colour changes whether the western media treats a tragedy like a tragedy. this horrifies me. because even in some of my own circles, so much goes unknown.)

yes, europe is going through a terrible heat wave right now and it is tragic and people are dying. it's bad. and it has climate chaos written all over it.

but people in europe are also more likely to have access to things like fresh water and stable infrastructure and air conditioning. (yes i know a lot of europeans don't have air conditioning but they are much more in the position to get air conditioning or a heat pump is my point.)

much of the global south doesn't have that. much of the global south has been kept “underdeveloped” so that western corporations could puppet their governments and plunder their resources and labour and use them as landfills for our never-ending consumption waste.

it also needs to be screamed as loud as possible that the people of the global south contributed the least to climate change. and they are also the least prepared for climate change when it comes to things like infrastructure and access to clean water and a/c.

the global north contributed the most to climate change. the rich countries. and the global south gets to experience the worst of it. the poor countries.

none of it is remotely fair. the global north owes the global south climate reparations. big time. to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars. this is a hotly contested topic at the u.n.

and the global north is much much more capable of changing trajectory in order to keep things from getting worse. we have the resources to stop burning fossil fuels and electrify everything.

aaaand the global north also has to get their fucking shit together and squash the growing right wing authoritarianism that's bubbling up because the planet is fucking changing and many places will become unliveable and those people—those human beings who are just like you—will need a place to live. survival is at stake and we don't have time for nazi eugenicists and their disease.

the rise of right-wing authoritarianism and climate change are linked too. shit, the cost of living and climate change are linked. over-consumption and climate change are linked. capitalism and climate changed are linked.

STIs happen in committed relationships. Rejection and heartbreak happen in committed relationships. Assault, rape and murder happen in committed relationships.

You don't have to have casual sex if you don't want to! I actually never have, it isn't for me. But it isn't uniquely risky or universally bad for women or whatever you may have heard. The ways to keep yourself safe during casual encounters -- using protection, having good boundaries, noping out if you get a bad vibe -- are strategies you would still need to ensure your safety in a serious relationship.

Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.

PCOS has a new name - Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, or PMOS for short.

However, the term PCOS is inaccurate, implying pathological ovarian cysts, obscuring diverse endocrine and metabolic features, and contributing to delayed diagnosis, fragmented care, and stigma, while curtailing research and policy framing. Building on an international mandate for change, we outline an unprecedented, rigorous, multistep global consensus process for the name change. Funding and governance were established with engagement of 56 leading academic, clinical, and patient organisations.
