K-Pop Demon Hunters is one of the best films I've seen in ages, though it made me laugh how the TV Tropes page lists it as a spiritual successor to Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks of all things!

That said.... it does work

To be fair, I feel like daybreak was meant to be over the top and dramatic, like you almost can't take her serious and you shouldn't. She was just a dream, never meant to be real. But I do agree with you that mlp's designs changed over time, and not always for the better.

rewatching the movie made me realize how insane this scene makes me. twilight thought pinkie was still mad at her and instantly started apologizing when she saw her. and pinkie didn't even need twilights words, she just jumped straight into her arms for a big, comforting hug. twi was shocked but immediately reciprocated the hug because she was so glad her best friend was back by her side.
