You feel alive when you're ready to die
I’ve been had a trilogy of werewolf love
Treated me like a firefly. Kept my light, (When all I wanted to do was illuminate everything that I couldn't see.)
I suppose it’s compulsively natural thing, really -
Wondering why you didn’t try harder?
To answer the call,
Show up against love at a doorstep,
Be completely unafraid of denial…
There are limits to some loves,
Bound in shadowy nooks and self-written scripts.
If they’re ever to be overcome,
It’s by the heroic courage,
To start a new page.
Is falling in love like being a god,
Where all the tethering to Earths seem optional?
Like decisions made without sunken costs?
Intuitive impulses through the turnstile?
If forever should last and prove mountains bore giants,
Would we consider ourselves dwarven,
Or the inexplicable legacy of mythological happenstance?
What birthed us into these alloyed moments where faith meets foolishness?
What is worth to know where we began?
If we are, at our least, the intuitive designers of what we love?
Kissing in NYC cured my cynicism
All of that just to make fools of everyone who loved you
You’re the second person I never got the chance to say goodbye to.
You were justifying our love,
Wondering,
“If I had it all?”
While I was falling out of your sky,
Wondering,
“Will I even get a peace to keep…”
If only you had honored us, I would have left my lovelight on so you could find your way to my doorstep again.
— Dulce María Loynaz, from “Poem XCVI,” in Absolute Solitude: Selected Prose Poems (tr. James O’Connor) (via letsbelonelytogetherr)
Sunsoaked
i no longer ask the sky my worth, the empty means i'm safe.
Moondrawn
i once asked the dark to answer me, and called the echo proof.
the pull, mistaken for promise. the shadow, mistaken for depth.
i knew you by reflection, and your fumbling, sewn-on hands
called me sun, but kept me dim. so i turned my face,
and new light, arose in truth.
Return
the overlap, the pause, then gap, love on tap - came through when i no longer had a thought to think, or you.
and just in time, i read the room: secondhand friends-to-lovers, sun-from-moon. something new took my eyes from you.
wings unclipped, loosened grip - off i went, a leaping fool.
truer love awaited, even more fated, not abdicated.
or maybe the virgo moon made the prior devastation overridden, overruled.
laughter returned, time felt earned, butterflies and yearning - reminded and revived, i fly.
Wingfall and maybe the tragedy isn't that you entrapped a beautiful bird,
but that you, a bird itself, secretly escaped your own cage first,
to love another bird, possessively... the only way you knew how,
but once found to be free, had to return to your confinement - the same place it all began.
