i think it's important to acknowledge that the reason why mastercard/visa has such a stranglehold on american society is because cash is not the main form of payment in the usa. the predominance of card has effectively privatized currency

in japan, one of the reasons why dlsite and other similar websites are able to just remove visa as a payment option instead of changing any of their merchandise (aside from the fact that visa doesn't have a monopoly here) is because cash payments for online transactions remain an option. even if you don't have a jcb credit card or paypay or whatever, you can still pay for your online purchases using cash by taking your barcode to a convenience store, and you can do this for essentially every online vendor, meaning credit card companies can't just impose their moral judgments on your purchases with much repercussion

How does that barcode system work? I've never heard of something like that.

1. you add whatever porn games or movies or books you want to your cart and go to checkout

2. you select cash payment at conbini as your payment method

3. youre emailed a barcode that you take to the conbini

4. you show it to the cashier, they scan it, and you pay what you owe. note that the cashier does not see what youre buying

and the transaction is complete

This goes further than just card only dominance in the US. The problem is that specifically a few (like literally three) banks have been given authority in North America to handle the accounts and digital banking of North American people, preventing smaller banks from breaking up the monopoly that the the entire continent is forced to function in.

It is theoretically possible for society to exist cash-lessly/ card-dominantly without utilizing visa/mastercard/etc (and therefore no longer servicing them with the fee they collect on every transaction.

It’s just our governments don’t care to authorize any other indépendant or even publicly funded organization to utilize Swift numbers (number used to identify account holders (only used in Canada and the USA. Everywhere else uses iban which removes their attachment from greedy companies and allows for alternative digital payment systems like the Japan example))

hi everyone!! id like to bring your attention to this group of queer refugees located in a camp in Gorom, South Sudan.

i came in contact with Goret, one of the lesbians from the camp, and she told me about how terrible their situation at the moment is.

if short, they lack funds for meals, poor medication/shelter conditions/beddings.

they also face physical threats due to homophobia and some of the members already have been severely injured because of the attacks.

their campaign is getting barely any traction, so id love if you guys could share, donate, and talk about it. lets help Goret and her fellow camp members to raise funds for survival! even small donations of $5 will mean a lot!

it's very surreal to see posts about palestine dwindling down after the ceasefire. israel is still blocking aid to and trying to make life difficult for palestinians in gaza. we still have to continue to speak up about gaza.

in this ceasefire, many palestinians are trying to rebuild in attempts to try and return to what they had before the genocide. despite the heavy and unbearable loss of life that gaza has experienced, her people continue to try to make a better world for their children.
