I’ve been doing some thinking, and I would really like to see a “B shift” episode. Just like, Ravi and a bunch of firefighter characters we’ve never been introduced to. And the whole episode is just them NOT passing the “firefam bechdel” test, sp the whole episode is just them gossiping about our original fire fam and treating them like a live drama series.

“Oh yeah yeah Chimney! I know him. He’s the guy who survived the rebar through his head a couple of years ago.” “He what.”

“I mean, Eddie seems nice, but that’s only when he’s next to Buck. He’s terrifying otherwise. I heard he used to do underground fighting, and punched a guy so hard he almost died.” “I knew there was something off about him! He once pulled a double shift with me, and the second Buck walked out of here, he just stopped talking to anyone? At least until Cap asked about his kid and he became all smiley and started showing us all pictures of his kid and Buck at the Zoo. I’d bet my money on them secretly dating btw. It would make all the sense.” “Whaaaat, no way! I thought they both had girlfriends?” “Did you ever actually see the girlfriends though?” “Huh. No.”

“Omg, Chimney’s wife and kids came by last week, they’re such a cute family.” “Wait, kids, plural?” “Yeah, looks like they adopted another girl!” “Oh no, that’s actually Hen’s daughter. She and her wife unreasonably lost their fostering licence, so Chimney and his wife took her in until it all gets sorted.” “What?? How close are those people?!” “Like, so close, dude.”

“I mean Bobby definitely plays favorites. I used to work with them on the A shift, but that sort of made me transfer to B shift. Nothing was wrong per say, but I just couldn’t figure out if Buck was actually his son or not? Because they’ve got different last names you know? And I didn’t want to ever be responsible if the Captain’s reckless son gets hurt on my watch.” “Oh no, Bobby’s definitely his dad. I think last name thing might be because of the first marriage? Buck probably just kept his mom’s maiden name, it’s not unheard of.”

“Did you know Hen completed med school?” “No, no, she dropped out. Decided it wasn’t for her or something.” “You sure? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen her do some crazy medical work in the field before.” “Yeah, she’s just like that.”

“My previous captain played poker with Buck once. Lost so much money that night.” “Really?! He doesn’t seem like a guy that can keep a poker face.”

“How do you not remember Jonah? He worked with us a couple times. He’s the guy who kidnapped Hen and Chimney.” “Oh yeaah. That was messed up.”

“Yo Ravi, you work with the A shift a lot more than us. Settle this for us: Buck and Eddie, dating or friends?” “Divorced.” “DIVORCED?” “Yeah, I think they might get back together soon though. They keep hanging out together, and I don’t think it’s just because of their kid.”

And every time they talk about someone from thw firefam, the scene cuts to that person doing some random stuff on their day off, maybe getting ready for a firefam get-together or sth. I just think it would be neat.

The take that Maddie's childhood wasn't great but Buck had it so much worse is so infuriating. I know Buck is the fandom's favorite, but why are you straight up lying about Maddie to prove that Buck had it worse? Can't they both have had shitty childhoods? Because canonically, they sure as hell did.

To recap, Maddie watched her little brother slowly die and then her parents moved her away from any one who knew Daniel and forced her to never speak of him again. Like I cannot stress how fucked up this is. They completely isolated this traumatized child from any support system she may have had and literally forbade her from grieving. That's insane. And on top of that, they parentified her and made a nine year old the primary caretaker of a baby all while neglecting them both. Also Maddie talks about how her mom would tell her that she wanted to kill herself. You know like a normal thing to say to or in front of your young daughter. And that's just how they treated her when she was a kid. When she got with Doug (at only 19!) her parents basically disowned her, thus ensuring that she would not feel safe to come to them when the relationship became abusive, which is probably a big reason she stayed for so long. And people are always talking about how the Buckley parents never visit Buck when he's grievously injured in the hospital. They also don't visit Maddie in the hospital after her husband kidnapped her and nearly stabbed her to death, even though we know Buck called and told them about it.

Unlike some of the Buck girlies, I don't feel the need to compare. The Buckley parents were awful to both of their living children (and frankly to Daniel as well for erasing his memory like that). I just object to the idea that Maddie somehow had it better than Buck because it is so obviously not true. And I find it really interesting that when it comes to male characters like say, Dean Winchester, people will write endless meta about how parentification is abuse. But when a female character is parentified by her parents people think it's not that bad because it doesn't seem as unnatural for a girl to be forced into a caretaker role, even if she was literally nine years old.

Ratatouille would have been a better and potentially much more interesting story if Remy had partnered with Collette instead of Linguini. Two underdogs with talent and passion forced to maintain a dangerous ruse. Fiercely independent Collette giving up temporary control of her body to a creature who, despite the insanity of a rat wanting to cook professionally, she can relate to on a personal level and who she does want to teach. The inner conflict of wondering if Remy’s growing talents are eclipsing her own, if the praise their food is earning belongs more to him than to her. Her guilt over feeling resentment and jealousy towards this little guy who wouldn’t have a hope of realizing his talents if not for her trust and protection. Both of them unraveling the mystery of that sweet but bumbling kitchen boy with the obvious crush on Collette being Gusteau’s secret son, and working together to thwart the new evil owner’s plans to stop Linguini from claiming his birthright. The message of the movie not being this weird, almost smug “some people are born with talent, some people aren’t, and that’s how being a ~great artist~ works”, but something more like, “if you have a dream, you deserve to pursue it, and be supported and encouraged in your pursuit of it, even if other people tell you that, because of some intrinsic aspect of yourself or the circumstances you were born in (like being a human woman in the restaurant industry, or being a literal rat), you have no place pursuing this dream. Also, raw talent can only get you so far, and skill and passion existing in the right balance is key.” I’ve been thinking about this for seventeen years. I’m breaking my silence

Wait I’m not done. Maybe at the beginning of the film, Collette is feeling burnt out and discouraged, and has almost reached the limits of her inner fire keeping her in this career despite industry sexism, and Remy, a complete industry rookie who just loves to cook, helps her rekindle her spirit by reminding her of herself when she was younger, and why she wanted to pursue the art of cooking at a high level in the first place. And, in turn, she patiently teaches Remy the skills he will need to cook at the level he dreams of. And when they’re practicing and she looks down at her hands and sees them moving with, what seems to her, painful slowness or imprecision, it takes her right back to when she was first learning how to move her hands in these ways, and Remy’s joy and determination about learning is an echo of her own, from a time when she was less jaded about her art. Remy as her student puts Collette back in touch with an inner younger self who has big dreams and loves to cook, and lets her shake the cynicism her career has ground into her— which is paralleled by the cynical Ego’s journey, and how Remy’s cooking puts him back in touch with his inner child, too. Remy the innocent, rekindling joy in two jaded professionals and helping them remember what they’re doing all of this for.

The Eddie will be complacent/side with Gerrard thing is so funny bc it’s like… Gerrard won’t let him? Unless they drastically change Gerrard’s character, he was racist and misogynistic first and foremost and immediately clocked the people he wanted to be bigoted to, Hen especially with his whole spiel on diversity hires.

So as much as Eddie would never be complacent under Gerrard or side with him, it’s really more that Gerrard would take one look at the last name Diaz and declare him the enemy. He wouldn’t WANT Eddie on his side.

Every time I see a "Eddie is going to be complacent" I kinda wanna scream "HIS NAME IS EDMUNDO DIAZ YOU THINK GERRARD IS GONNA GO EASY ON HIM???" Gerrard always had a problem with Chim because of the racism. It's gonna be the same with Eddie. Eddie has a Spanish last name and he looks latino. Eddie would also be attacked. He's not gonna walk away from it because Gerrard's bigotry was always more racially charged. And I kinda think the show made a point to have Ravi at the end there when Gerrard shows up so we would think about the racial aspect of the 118 too. Sure, we have a lesbian and a bisexual, but we have a black woman, an asian man, a half Mexican man, and an indian man. The racial aspect of it was laid out in front of us because Chim never had it any easier.

the thing with shannon is its like ok but what is eddie supposed to do? everyone in his life is like she was a terrible wife and a worse mother and that is NOT fair thats not fair at all. to her or to christopher. so what else is eddie supposed to do other than swing wildly in the other direction and say no no no she was a wonderful mother who loved her son i was the problem she did nothing wrong. bc he has to keep that alive for christopher and never let him think for a second that his mother didnt love him. but the problem is that when she was alive shannon knew that she made a mistake in leaving christopher when he was so young she said this over and over and every time eddie defends her to someone who isnt christopher he flattens her and flattens her and turns her into less of a real person. he has to keep defending her bc no one else will but the person hes defending wouldnt even want to be remembered the way eddie remembers her…. its so fucking tragic

He hasn’t been civilised in 4 years, his entire teenage experience consists of living on a boat and sleeping rough. The most stable bed he has was probably in Ba Sing Se he probably will just nap anywhere.

He has customer service experience which means he probably uses his customer service voice on his minsters.

Additionally he probably just wanders into to kitchen to get his own snacks and tea because he forgets what servants do.

He probably has no idea why he can’t just chase after an assassin he used to hunt the avatar for Agnis sake why is the captain of the guard demanding he stay in his room he’ll find the guy first (he’s probably right)

Katara probably has a free pass on Eco terrorism because what’s he going to do challenge her, she’ll beat his ass.

If he saw a minster doing something shady he will either invite lady Beifong to detect their BS or commit B&E and look for evidence himself.

He somehow found a baby dragon and raises it.

He will be far to willing to give Kyoshi island anything they want cause he feels bad and Suki scares him.

He randomly insisted on giving some earth kingdom village 100 ostrich horses.

The Avatar will just show up call him Hotman and demand the go on adventures and the Firelord will just dip because he’s been confined to long and has the Zoomies.

He takes far to much advice from Sokka and will genuinely believe if someone doesn’t get Sokkas plans they must be an idiot because Sokka is 16.

Sokka and Zuko also get into a lot of teenage rebellion phases by accident.

Toph just walks in breaks a wall of his palace and demands a field trip that always involves the Firelord having to explain himself to the cops.

He somehow knows every dangerous teen in the world and they all come for tea uninvited.

He has broken into both the NWT and Ba Sing Se.

He has a really well documented facial scar and official portraits but still disappears to be Lee the tea guy like no one knows.
