@incidentale here we go dear, best line delivery of the movie for us to watch whenever we want😂
hes literally nice
one thing that made me laugh in the passenger is when Benson is ranting about randys mum being too involved in his decisions and randy gives the sassiest, snarkiest look you've ever seen on a man and goes 'guess so' 🙄
he wanted to call Benson a hypocrite SO bad
I've seen some ppl criticising the passenger cuz the mall was so empty and it looks unrealistic and I wanna talk about it...
throughout the movie there's a lack of extras (except for the diner scenes) especially in the mall scene; at first I think it's a way to show how lacklustre and shallow the area is, which emphasises bensons point about randy inevitably going to be wasting his potential there.. it's just a very sad and dull setting but also very casual? which then makes bensons actions more significant in such a small town
furthermore... we see the world thru randys perspective, and this is why I think the use of extras represents who randy thinks could get involved in bensons actions. for example, when they go to the diner directly after the massacre, the place is bustling with people - randy thinks Benson has the capacity to harm these people, especially since randy doesn't really understand bensons aims at that point.
then, later on, the mall is completely barren, which is odd even for a small town. this makes the events more insular and intimate, as randy now understands that Benson is completely focused on randys problems instead of going to kill other people.
tldr the use of extras is used to show what randy thinks bensons motives are and the empty mall makes the events focused completely on just Benson and randy
the costumes in the passenger are so well done.. like Benson seems more approachable with his fluffy colourful cardigan and bunny shirt in comparison to randy; who has a big ass trench coat on and wearing fully black - with a metal band shirt on. also the colours match their animals (randys green coat and Bensons yellowish-green cardi and brown pants)..
it definitely represents how they see themselves, with randy viewing himself as dangerous and an outcast and Benson viewing himself as simply helping randy... idk if this makes sense or not but yea
also! the motorhead outfit doesn't fit randy at all, which represents how completely wrong he is about him being a danger to others and how he's literally swamped in his own self doubt and lack of self esteem

this song is randy bradley chat
I think it's interesting how Benson is associated with giraffes, which are typically peaceful herbivores, and randy with crocodiles, which are typically dangerous carnivores. like you'd think it would be the other way around
the passenger (2023) is consistent in its portrayal of male characters, always depicting them in a negative light. from the main characters to unseen side characters, they are shown as violent, predatory, deeply flawed or conspicuously absent.
benson and randy: benson causes the entire plot by initiating a killing spree. he's violent and aggressive. randy, while not violent, is defined by his passivity and inability to assert himself. he is a victim of bullying, a contrast to benson's aggression, yet equally dysfunctional in his inability to act or stand up for himself.
other male characters further reinforce this pattern: hardy, the manager, is shown to be unprofessional and neglectful, not even remembering randy's name and watching porn on the job. chris is depicted as a bully, making sexual innuendos and engaging in inappropriate behavior at work. donnie, though unseen, is characterized by benson as lazy or irresponsible, someone who would shirk his duties if given the occasion. mr. sheppard is implicitly identified as a pedophile.
the absence of fathers also contributes to this theme. neither benson's nor randy's father is mentioned, despite their mothers being present. benson's father is clearly absent. randy's father's absence is more ambiguous as while he isn't mentioned in the story, we don't see any of randy's family.
the only father figure mentioned, tessa's dad, is not explicitly horrible, yet mrs. beard's comment that their marriage "shouldn't have happened" suggesting an unhappy or flawed relationship, preventing him from being a truly positive counter-example.
ranson coded I must say
relating elliott smith songs to the passenger is my favorite hobby
