Can we talk about how John decided that, out of all the things he could have made from the Arthurs he has hunted dowe, he made a cathedral?

John saw this atheist man that is so deeply troubled by religion and cults and his choice was to create something that Arthur absolutely despises from the very pieces of him and that in all honesty is very poetic and also just a huge gut punch.

My first thought was he did it out of spite and revenge, but who is to say that it was not out of a twisted sense of worship? Out of despair and guilt and the longing to curl up inside of the deepest part of Arthur again and to simply be with the one person he had grown so attached to?

The worst part was John didn't even know if his Arthur was dead, all what he knew was the Arthurs that he found were not the same and from all the pain he erected a building that he actively would sit in.

Think about it, how many cathedrals also are the throne room? John desperately wanted out and so far Arthur had been the only person to provide that way.

Emily died at his attempt to escape, Arthur was the only one that survived so far and a literal piece of himself, the king he once used to be, rejected him and sent him back to the hell that he barely escaped for a few months at best.

As cruel as John seems for killing every version of the person he cared for and even sacrificed himself for to make sure Arthur would get back to earth I just think this speaks about just how desperate John was and how afraid he was of being without his version of Arthur.

Just like Kayne said, not only did John return to his old ways but he had to sink just a little bit lower (the lower in question being instead of being an apathetic entity seeing himself above humanity he obsessively hunted every version of him down)

The way Arthur's voice rumbles and echoes along the cathedral walls like he's some god. The way John's is so quiet and smooth. The way he sounds human, voice laid with mistakes and agony and sadness and regret. He's speaking to the god he created in the cathedral he built with tears asking for penance. A small voice compared to the scared and holy body of Arthur. His previous body, hidden under yellow cloth, draped across the throne made of bones. Draped in pain and reverence with his head bowed like Mother Mary at the dead body of Christ. Her beloved. Asking for forgiveness and trying to warm him with her love and her small hands where she could not warm him in his last moments. A god bowing his head in sadness and prayer to the figure he holds dearest in his memories. They're the only thing left of someone he knew. Someone he loved. The bones are cold under his touch. He warms them with his hands, his body, his clothes, praying for sunlight to warm them in a distant future. Just one. Please, at least one.

Okay but imagine one day the boys are chilling and Arthur mentions he's been getting some nondescript pain that's bothering him and John knows the exact issue because he's intimately familiar with Arthur skeletal structure. Like:

Arthur: Ah my foot is killing me today

John: Oh yeah that'll be your right medial cuneiform

Arthur:

John (sheepishly): Every alternate Arthur's right foot had a slightly deformed medial cuneiform

Arthur:

John: I- uh- used them as inlays on my throne

Every time I relisten to the beating-up-Aldrich-Ward scene in Part 39 i'm absolutely reeling over how turned on John sounds. "Orthur! You've smashed his head into the mirror!" Said with the most barely contained lust known to man. Have some decorum

I love living my irl life stealth until someone looks at my incredibly transgender art and I out myself and die a little inside. Maybe I'll reblog this with an explanation later, but rn I trust Tumblrs ability to look at something with nuance.
