when is he ever not getting his ass beat
So I have a Malevolent theory as to which God is going to be the focus.
(Preemptively, I'm sorry that this is a bit long and rambling.)
I think this series's focus is going to be on Yog-Sothoth, AKA the "Lurker at the Threshold" or "Guardian of the Threshold". Not just because this series is called "Malevolent: THRESHOLD", but also because Yog-Sothoth has been haunting the narrative since as far back as episode 8. (After John first mentions "The King in Yellow", the eerie whispers that follow are reciting Yog-Sothoth's description from "The Dunwich Horror".) By all means, it's shocking Yog-Sothoth hasn't appeared yet. Like, it's coterminous with spacetime and almost as core to the mythos as Azathoth, yet it hasn't even been mentioned beyond a few references to "Threshold". So what's it doing?
(Also, given how much a theme of Malevolent is "Father Issues": guess which yellow-cloaked entity Yog-Sothoth just so happens to be the parent of in later versions of the Mythos? Poor John: he's going to be the one with Father Issues this time around.)
(Again, sorry: I just have way too many Thoughts.)
I haven’t personally read that story in a while or know much about Yog but sounds like a theory that has merit! If that’s true, it would be very interesting to see how the lore of Harlan’s world works. I’d always assumed, at least partially, that his version of the King in Yellow had origins that aligned Chamber’s works, but I suppose it would make more sense if he used the version of the mythos Lovecraft wrote. I haven’t read all the way through the Keeper’s Rulebook for the TTRPG setting, so I can’t say which one seems to fit more closely. Either way, interesting theory!
How am I just finding your Malevolent summary stuff?? It's great and weird I haven't seen it around from how small the fandom's YouTube presence is. Your art is great! I myself have just recently gotten back into the pod and making fanart for it, and can't wait to see more of your animations as they come out
Thank you so much! <3 Your art is fantastic btw; very nice lines and rendering.

U ever think about how Kayne actively chooses to appear as one solid human form. Do you ever think about how over the course of the series he went from regarding Azathoth's grin bitterly, from being so revolted at being called Nyarlathotep, from being so utterly determined about his goal to replace Azathoth, and so purely enraged about. just. just All of it.
All of that pure passion to, after he'd touched the Blackstone, being unmoved by what Arthur said about Azathoth not being a god? His Arthur, that special little guy that was always so hrghrghrhhhhhh. So special and infuriating and endlessly stubborn finally, finally understanding! Actually getting it and giving something in return that might've actually been a reason to reconsider his plans and Kayne just. Not caring. And then deciding, not with any emotion or any anger or malice or a total meltdown- but with a shrug that he would go through with ending everything anyway?
And after being with the Obelisk, how he went so quickly from saying that grin was a cruel brand, a scar, a reminder of who carelessly created him. To remarking how it freed him? To how it was a gift? And then- Only then- regarding his "true form" with something like pride? Saying Arthur was lucky to see it?
Do you think about how Kayne is the best example of a caring god, and how when Arthur told him that, he was already too far into that influence of his creator, whom he hated so very much, to the point that by the end, he was just Nyarlathotep. Nyarlathotep with a purpose that would never be fulfilled. FUck, he was barely even that anymore. He was Azathoth's special little messenger over here. Do you ever think about that. Because I do. Ouhhhhh boy I am thinking thoughts. In fact I think he'll hit bedrock like a fucking boulder if he comes back
I’m back with moreee
This guy did a stakeout, killed a man to stop a ritualistic murder, visited his daughter, visited the morgue, went to the bookstore, divorced and remarried his seeing eye demon, got haunted by a ghost/zombie version of his dead friend, and got tangled up with mob all in a single night. It is no wonder he is falling asleep on the job because he sure isn't sleeping at night.
