there is something so heartbreaking about gerry not being able to escape the horrors in either timeline. in archives he lived a life surrounded by the fears without being given the choice and by the time he had enough agency to choose for himself he couldn’t actually make the choice to leave that world because he knew too much and that automatically put him in more danger than the average person. even in death he couldn’t rest since gertrude bound him to the book and he spent years afterwards in agony being used for others’ gain.

and then we have protocol gerry who was experimented on and catalyzed as a child. he was given no choice in whether or not he would participate in the tests and then he was changed by the tests to the point that he can’t even properly grieve everything he’s lost because of how the catalyzing changed him. sure protocol gerry is more upbeat and happy than archives gerry but it’s by force. it’s because he literally cannot be anything else. he is a force of raw positivity and light which is fine for others around him for a short time but it’s toxic for him. bad moods make us human but he had his alchemically removed without his permission.

gerry keay i hope in some timeline out there you can rest. i hope it is not your destiny to face things so much bigger than yourself and become irreparably changed by them.

idk i think you should make this character's heterosexuality relevant to the narrative. i mean why are they cis if it's not servicing the plot. you can't just throw story elements in for no reason if you're gonna make an able bodied character it should really serve a purpose. like why are they white are you just trying to fill a checklist? :/
