Ness was so focused on it that he didn't see the tendril of sludge that Don purposely shot at his legs, tripping him.

He stumbled, a few seconds away from face planting straight into the concrete. He couldn't coordinate his limbs and relied on instinct to conjure up a pile of plush pillows, falling into those instead. Throughout all of this he could hear Don Lorenzo laughing at him, croaky voice grating on the ears.

Ness got up and dusted himself off. "You're an ass," he muttered. "What if I actually hurt myself?"

"Oh relax I probably would have caught you before then." Don cocked his head coyly. "Probably."
