it's not a date + charlie/asher
Once his cerulean eyes caught sight of the brunette a grin lightly tugged at Asher’s lips. Truthfully he’d expected to be stood up, since Charlie made it pretty clear their ‘outing’ was not a date and was never going to be during their previous conversation. Once she stepped foot inside of the lobby, Asher slowly and quickly scanned her outfit: a casual set of jeans and a sweatshirt, “Another way to prove your point." He thought to himself, but decided not to say anything particularly similar. Instead, he shot her a smile, "Even though it’s a sweatshirt, I won’t lie and say you don’t look nice.” He smiled, trying to keep his voice silvery.
"So, are you still denying my offer to go to an Italian restaurant?" The police officer asked. His strategy was to keep on insisting until she eventually gave into his offer and allowed him to take her to a restaurant, consequently making their rendezvous a date. But, seeing as Charlie was extremely keen on making it "not a date", Asher was still debating whether it was the right plan or not. "Or are we still going to grab takeout from somewhere?" He added, but making sure it was evident in his voice that he very much preferred the other option.
She couldn't help but roll her eyes at his compliment on her outfit. It had taken less than a minute to throw together, which had been purposeful on her part. The less effort she put in, the less of a chance it would that this could in anyway be considered a date. However, Asher was incredibly persistent, so at his request yet again to take her out to an Italian restaurant, Charlie ran a hand through her hair, "I'm not dressed for some fancy Italian restaurant," she said motioning towards the outfit she'd picked out for herself, "And besides, I don't have the money to pay to go out to some fancy place." She instinctively moved her hands into the back pockets of her jeans, something she often did whenever she felt herself becoming nervous or uncomfortable.
Sighing loudly, she ran removed one hand from her back pocket and ran it through her hair, another nervous tick she'd developed over the years. Why she felt so nervous she had no idea, but it was most definitely beginning to annoy her. "I just wanna go grab some food," Charlie said, placing a hand on her flat stomach, "Can we just go and not make it an awkward date thing? Because those just don't work out for me, okay?" She was speaking the truth, something she'd explained to him prior. Charlie Burke and commitments had never and would never work out. She stared up at him with hopeful eyes, wanting to keep their outing as casual as she possibly could.
no good deed goes unpunished + charlie/zach
Zach raised his eyebrows as Charlie made her demands. She was certainly confident, no doubts there. “I could call you Charlie the Angle, but I’m not sure that’s a fit.” He mimicked her position, leaning against the side of the building and folding his arms across his chest. Before, he had been utterly zoned out, but their crash and subsequent confrontation had him wide awake and back on his toes.
"And one: I don’t feel a need to apologize, since you ran into me. Ergo, I believe I’m the victim in all of this and the one deserving of a ‘sorry.’ I do wish you hadn’t fallen down, though.” Zach eyed her carefully. Other than a few remaining flecks of dirt on her clothing, Charlie seemed to be alright – no cuts or bruises. Nothing visible, at the very least.
"Two: I own Book Soup, and my new sales clerk was having something of a catastrophe, so I had to head over to clear everything up." A hint of a grin tugged at the corners of his lips. "It’s not even that late, unless you’re over seventy-five."
Now, he tilted his head slightly. “My turn. Question A, are you going to own up to the fact that you nearly ran down an innocent man and question B, what’re you doing out?”
She rolled her eyes yet again, though this time in a somewhat joking manner as Zach made a 'Charlie the Angel' joke. While part of her wanted to get angry, the other part had done its part to keep her mouth shut and allow the book store owner to have his moment. As he began explaining his answers to both of Charlie's questions, she nodded her head as she continued to take drag after drag from her cigarette before ultimately tossing it onto the pavement and stomping it out. As Zach countered with his own set of questions, Charlie shook her head and laughed for a moment before moving back to stand in an upright position as she ran a hand through her brunette locks.
"Number one, you're hardly innocent. Clearly as the bigger person in this situation you should have been paying better attention to where you were going. But it's okay, because I accept your unspoken apology with an open heart." Naturally, she ended her statement with a sarcastic grin and her hand laid gently against her chest. However his follow up question posed a bit of a predicament for the young brunette. However, but the end of it, she'd decided to go with the response she'd always gone with when people asked her about her odd schedule.
"I'm a dancer at Deja Vu," she said with a shrug of her shoulder, "Too many girls showed up tonight and I'd already made enough to cover my rent, so I got to come home early." She watched Zach's face in silence, attempting to gauge his reaction to what she'd just told him.
I almost blew up my microwave today.
That’s an interesting choice of lifestyle gurus. I wonder who else is on the list.
Definitely, my house is almost always full of food. I eat a lot.
Miley Cyrus after the hair cut. Michelle Rodriguez. And the one guy from that one season of The Real World.
I feel like I probably have more food for my cat in my apartment than I do for myself. I feel like that's incredibly sad, but I'm okay with it.
it's not a date + charlie/asher
Asher couldn’t manage to remove his satisfied grin from his lips the entire time he got himself ready for his date. Lately, he’d met plenty of interesting people here at Astoria, but Charlie was truly something exquisite. Not to mention that having her play “hard to get” or even be that, intrigued him even more. The police officer loved a good chase and he was determined to win over the young brunette today, no matter how long he’d have to run after her.
Grabbing a wine-coloured jacket, the brunet took a quick look in the mirror and fixed up his appearance before walking out the door. He made sure to leave his badge and anything else that could remind the young woman that he was a police officer, on his coffee table and only had his phone and wallet tucked safely inside his pocket once he stepped outside his apartment, locking the door behind him.
He had to resist the urge to race down the steps and go straight inside the lobby. But if Charlie had already arrived, it wouldn’t make the best impression, especially since she insisted that this wasn’t a date. Once his heels touched the lobby’s blue carpet, his cerulean eyes scanned the room for the girl, but to his surprise, she wasn’t there. Licking his lips, he took a few steps forward and waited for her, hands tucked inside his jacket’s pockets.
She'd gotten down to the end of her cigarette and carelessly chucked it down onto the pavement, stamping it out with the heel of her boot. Pulling her phone out of the back pocket of her jeans, Charlie debated just leaving without Asher. It'd been what she'd wanted to do since he brought up getting food together in the first place. She wasn't sure what had made her turn back towards the building, but as she looked through the glass doors of the lobby she immediately noticed Asher, seemingly looking around and waiting for her. It would have been easy to just quickly make her way passed the door and go on her own. She'd even taken a few steps towards that plan, but her conscience quickly kicked and Charlie slowly but surely made her way up the steps towards the building. She was in no way heartless enough to something that cruel.
As she opened the door, Charlie took a deep breath and she slowly made her way over to Asher. Her first thought was that she felt ridiculously under dressed in her jeans and sweatshirt. Her second thought was to shut the fuck up and that this wasn't a date, which meant she didn't have to impress him. And then of course her third thought was that he had really pretty blue eyes. Shaking her head, Charlie did her best to maintain her stoic demeanor as she approached Asher. "I assume I'm the person that you're looking for," she said, offering him a small wave before brushing a few strands of hair out of her eyes, "I'd also like to take this time to point out once again that this is not a date. Just in case you thought it was."
it's not a date + charlie/asher
Charlie let out a loud groan, even going to far as to roll her eyes as she slipped on a sweatshirt and grabbed her apartment key. The fact that she'd even agreed to allow Asher to tag along with her to get lunch was slightly mind boggling for the young brunette. She wasn't anti-social or anything, quite the opposite actually. It wasn't that she disliked being around people, she just preferred being alone to being around others. It wasn't that she disliked Asher, because she didn't. He was a nice guy and seemingly completely harmless. But she'd made it a point when she'd first moved into Astoria and started working at Deja Vu that it was much better and easier in the long run to keep other people in her life at a distance. And she most definitely didn't date. And yet here she was, not that she considered it a date because it wasn't.
Making her way down the stairs of Astoria, Charlie was finally made it outside and without a second thought, stuck a cigarette in her mouth and quickly lit the end. As the lobby door swung open again, Charlie immediately recognized a familiar pair of blue eyes as she took another drag from her cigarette. Before he could even say 'hi', Charlie had already started in. "I'm just clarifying this one more time to make sure it's clear," she said quickly, "This is not a date."
I almost blew up my microwave today.
It’s a rendezvous then.
It's two people going for a walk.
I almost blew up my microwave today.
Well, I suggested Italian…but either way. Call it what you want, I still think it’s a date.
It is not a date.
I almost blew up my microwave today.
I also know you like cats and don’t know how to make popcorn. Either way, that’s why I’m asking you out, to get to know you better and vice versa.
You're coming with me so I can go pick up a burger and fries from somewhere. I'd hardly call that asking me out.
I almost blew up my microwave today.
You know my name, my job and where I live. Am I missing something?
So? You know the same things about me, but that doesn't mean you actually know anything about me.
I almost blew up my microwave today.
I don’t even know your name and i’m deeply concerned for your health. How long has it been since you ate something home-made?
If toast counts as homemade, then yesterday morning for breakfast. But other than that...yeah, I got nothing.
Also, it's Charlie.
I almost blew up my microwave today.
I’m off duty. Besides, why don’t you want me to go with you? Do you hate me that much?
Why would I hate you? I don't even know you.
I almost blew up my microwave today.
How have you made it so far in life without being able to even make popcorn?
Take out restaurants, obviously.
I almost blew up my microwave today.
Great idea. I’ll go with you.
I mean, if you want to I can't really stop you.
Shouldn't you be out patrolling the streets or something? Chasing down criminals? Giving people parking tickets?
