I can’t get over how raw taylor is in afterglow, cos she’s not just admitting she made a mistake, she’s admitting that maybe she isn’t 100% all the time, maybe she isn’t a strong badass all the time, and maybe the way she’s been treated in past relationships has left scars. That’s why the lyric ‘it’s all me in my head’ is so important, because she’s recognising precisely what the problem is, but she goes a step further because she doesn’t say she knows how to fix it. She stands there in front of him and says ‘I know I panicked, I know I overreacted, I know I’m overly defensive, and I know it’s because of my history with some pretty crappy people, and I don’t know what I can do to make it better except say that I’m sorry’. It takes so much guts to admit you dont know how to deal with your ingrained flight or fight response, which is why she says ‘tell me that we’ll be just fine even when I lose my mind’ - she’s desperate, she doesn’t know what to do, so she reaches out and says ‘remind me that it’s all in my head and that we are stronger than this’. It’s not manipulative.
