so many. stupid fucking people. smugly wrong. the term . "all art is political". does not mean. every artist puts political intent into their work. no. the guy drawing dicks on the subway did not intend any deep message by it. HOWEVER. all art. IS political. he chose to draw that dick. for a reason. society shaped what he finds funny. what he finds shocking. the fact he chose to draw a dick at all says something about his society. actually, the fact it is a dick and not a pussy is itself political. we are all. ALL. shaped by our environments. in an alternate universe a woman is drawing a vulva on the wall. and shes saying "TCH! this isnt political. stupid liberals". all art. has political CONTEXT. that is a more specific way to phrase it. because we live in a society. who has access to art? where is the art located? who is the artist? why did they draw that in that specific location. what led to them even having the sharpie they used to draw the dick to begin with. their society shaped their tools! their society shaped their choice of subject! their society shaped the location of their art! but these people are too stupid to understand this. so theyll continue pretending that they are not shaped by their political environment. SAD!

Let's say I really wanted to reduce the number of children who die in car accidents. Car accidents are really bad, right? Nobody disagrees about that. And it would be much better for both the environment and the kids' health if they spent more time walking, or taking the bus. Perfectly reasonable. More cars off the road, safer roads, fewer kids getting hurt, healthier kids. A win-win!
Therefore, let's ban children from traveling by car and require all cars to have a scanner on the door that scans the government ID of everyone who gets in the car to make sure no kids are in there. After all, kids get hurt in car accidents all the time! We need to ban this right away!
Sleeping poorly is so embarrassing... sorry im grumpy I stayed up past my bedtime. Like a toddler
The worst types of cookbook:
The Ottolenghi - it is vital that you use 1g of this very expensive ingredient. It comes from a 500g bag with a one-week shelf life.
The time machine - 15-minute recipe! First, leave to marinate overnight...
The dishwasher - one-pot recipe! Now decant your ingredients and wipe out your pot. And again. And again. And again.
The optimist - cook the onions until caramelised (2 minutes).
The kindergarten teacher - get one nommable little tree of broccoli and bosh that into boiling water. Delish!
The brand names only - ingredients: Ritz crackers, Philadelphia cheese, Cool Whip, orange Jell-o...
The 1950s palate - use one (1) clove of garlic and a small pinch of chili flakes (omit if preferred).
The why bother with a cookbook - to make beans on toast, gently heat a tin of beans and put on top of freshly buttered toast.
#the overachiever: make this very time consuming ingredient from scratch even though it'll end up tasting worse than store bought
Amen to this @akasanata. "Now make your puff pastry from scratch". How about no❤️
The machinist's cookbook - Requires twenty different pieces of bulky and expensive kitchen equipment that the author is inexplicably certain you own.
The multitasker - And while your water is boiling, your vegetables are blanching, your onions which you hopefully remembered to stir every 15 seconds are caramelizing and your sauce that will split if you look at it funny are cooking, get another pot ready and start chopping the vegetables.
The just-wing-it: Boil potatoes until cooked through, then mix with rest of ingredients and cook until done.
there is nothing a corporation hates more than having employees, but a close second is having to provide a good or service in order to make money. these two reasons concisely explain is why the ai bubble formed in the first place.

my petty gripe about anachronism in historical/fantasy/spec-fic worlds is attraction language.
We’ve all heard the “should you use modern queer labels or not” argument but honestly even when people go “true, they wouldn’t use the labels ‘aromantic’ or ‘asexual,’” so often the characters describe their experiences as “I never felt romantic attraction” or “I don’t feel attracted to anyone” in ways that makes me go. You are stilllllll thinking about this in an extraordinarily modern online way. That 19th century steampunk detective man will NOT be angsting about having never felt romantic attraction, he would be angsting about being unable to feel moved by the beauty or charm of a woman, or something. And I do think that “attractiveness” language is different from the identity-level idea of experiencing attraction—Sherlock Holmes does not talk about not experiencing attraction, but when Watson says “What a very attractive woman!” Holmes responds “Is she? I did not observe.” (And then Watson calls him an inhuman automaton and calculating-machine and Holmes calls Watson’s judgement biased). Never swayed by the attractiveness of a man or woman, never desirous of marriage, never charmed by the delights of love, all of these feel like some of the variety of ways that someone in this milieu might describe an ace- or aro-spectrum identity more than “never felt attraction” does. Mostly because, like the terms for aromantic and asexual themselves, nailing down an exclusively attraction-based definition of a-spec identities is a relatively new and extremely post-AVEN thing. And yet in fiction everybody knows to articulate their experience as feeling sexual/romantic attraction. And I always want to go nooo how would THIS character think about it?? Not how you think this character SHOULD think about it, how would THIS person in THIS context articulate their feelings?
my ultimate fantasy is to have a brain and body that allows me to enjoy being alive
a thing about me is i basically never notice a wig or other kind of hairpiece in tv/movies. it has to be party city territory for me to even twig it. people will complain about characters' wigs looking bad and i will nod along but there is like a 90% chance i did not notice for a second while watching. i consider this mostly a blessing.
that is actually my main principle of explicit fic is that the personalities stay On during sex.
It is so ridiculously easy to gain a reputation for being competent by just reading signs.
This is not metaphorical. I mean actual, literal pieces of paper/plastic/metal/whatever explicitly erected to inform the public.
“How did you know this was the right trail?” I read the sign.
“Wow, how did you know what that flower is?” There’s a SIGN.
“How did you know we needed to use the side door?” THERE IS A SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR.
Just…why are we having such different experiences of the world? People can read. I KNOW they can read. There’s nothing wrong with their vision.
Just. READ. THE. GOD. DAMN. SIGN.

Predictions for Dungeons & Dragons under Hasbro's management in the coming years:
Uma Musume style horsegirls introduced to the Forgotten Realms; setting's lore revised so that they've always been there.
Advancement rules now stipulate per-session XP bonus based on lifetime D&D Beyond purchase history.
Compendium of exclusive feat trees for specific gender and sexual identities. Bisexuality receives no feats of its own, being mechanically implemented as "half gay"; the resulting synergies are disgusting.
Editorial error in revised Dungeon Master's Guide accidentally refers to Dungeon Masters as Hasbro's employees.
"Noble savage" coding of barbarian class walked back, refocused on European folkloric touchstones such as the Ulster Cycle; all barbarian characters become Irish stereotypes.
AI-based DM service trained exclusively on work of Ed Greenwood launched; withdrawn a week later citing "guiderail issues".
Expanded discussion of navigating player expectations frames "not showing up at all" as a valid playstyle.
Dragon-blooded sorcerer subclass revised to state that one of the character's ancestors was "very good friends" with a dragon.
Didn't that last one actually get implemented into canon?
Hasbro has indeed spent the last several years pushing back against dragonfucking jokes so hard that they've gone as far as to revise some of the setting lore to imply that dragons don't even fuck each other, but they haven't yet had the guts to pull the trigger on taking the option of literal dragon ancestry off the table for sorcerers.
(The 5.5E writeup for dragon-blooded sorcerers does list "making a bargain" with a dragon above the actual-ancestry option, though, which is funny as hell. Yeah, I'll bet it was a mutually beneficial exchange!)
My gw3 thoughts is that.
I think gamers and viewers across all media have gotten comfortable with the idea that everything everywhere needs to cater to them. And this sentiment has ruined both game design, narrative design, and stories as a whole.
Its okay to be disappointed about not having Sylvari or Charr, but its odd to me that instead of being willing to engage (or even accept not engaging because of it which is valid!!!) with what a game may tell or interacting with the story sincerely people would rather the devs jeopardize their vision for the story to cater to players vs people having to accept that its okay to have fomo and feel disappointment without asking for devs to sacrifice their vision to Fix it.
In recent times all media likes to play it safe, everyone needs to be able to get into X thing, this is why all AAA games look the same, all stories have lost their grit and meaning, the only people making bold new strides are indie sevs with no horse in the race where that matters as much as an executive saying make X amount of numbers or we are pulling the plug.
Because in all seriousness, if I Do want to engage with gw3's story sincerely...I agree that it would not make sense for sylvari and charr to be playable on a lore level. Because player races arent decided based on "exceptions that can be made in the lore" theyre decided on what would work for the story and the Player Population reflecting the lore in their game...having 10199292 charr players in orr...doesnt make sense LOL.
The only way it would feel like Abandonment (I say this as A Charr Player Myself) is if they did what they did with gw1, and dropped gw2 content forever just to move on with gw3. Thats not the case.
We have gotten so comfortable with media not willing to take risks and therefore everyone must be included. We have gotten comfortable with not accepting that some things arent for everyone, and its okay. Even Gameplay wise its GREAT that theyre doing something so different, if you HATE motion games this does suck qnd you cant feel the way to play it but...you can be disappointed or angry without getting Mad at the devs trying to do something new. (In this case I just hope they add accessibility features.)
If anything with the Kodan or whatever non sylvari charr races they add I just hope they give us the same amount of interesting world building akin to what we got from gw2, but I dont really have any doubts in that.
Anyway tldr: having fomo and being disappointed is not bad, its not something to be ashamed of. But to immediately doomerism about a game thats not out yet, to claim the devs are being overtly malicious is a stretch and we need to unlearn the social media brain of not accepting negative emotions and not everything having to cater to all tastes esp when the games that Do cater to your tastes arent going anywhere.
