It's prank day! Apparently! But what would be a nice prank? She wasn't that creative, so all that was there for Charley was a card with a heart on it in glitter. Upon opening it, however, the paper hammock rips and spills glitter all over where it was opened! "Happy April Fool's Day! From Aly 💓" was written on the inside. She tried.

GREAT.NOW THERE’S GLITTER EVERYWHERE.

But while Barley and Edgar were raging about how this is going to be a bitch to clean up, Charley just laughs, shakes the card itself free of the glitter, and stuffs it into his tailcoat’s inner pocket, into his hammerspace for safekeeping.

“Yeah. The angel and I have been watchin’ the reels lately. More entertainin’ than you’d think. Ended up goin’ wit’ her back to her room there, and it was late so I just stayed the night instead of goin’ back to the hideout.”

And off the little spider toon scuttles, off to find his friend and tell her about the awful naughty word that no one should say.

“Y’know what? That’s a tough question to ask me. Cuz I know what most people would respond with, and what they’d call the definition… But I don’t agree with what people would call a slut at all. It’s why I didn’t tell you what it means. Cuz it’s not nice or right, to call someone a mean word just because you don’t like what they do for fun.” 

“Can you believe it? That someone would call another person a mean name that hurts their feelings and makes them feel bad for doing something they enjoy? The only sluts here are the mean people that call nice people that aren’t doing anything bad sluts. You’re a real nice kid, Edgar. You shouldn’t use that word. Nice people don’t use that word.”

Gasp!

“I don’t believe it! That’s so mean! I won’t use it, I promise!” He puts his hands over his mouth. He was a nice kid! He wasn’t that bad of a person, even if he did steal and lie and do bad things with Charley and Barley. He was good! So he wouldn’t say that word.

Henry snorts and shakes his head, “Woah hold your horses, kiddo. A thief and a slut aren’t the same thing either.”

“Slut’s a word you’d use if you really wanted to hurt someone’s feelings. It’s a very mean word to call someone, but it doesn’t have anything to do with stealing things. You’re pretty in the clear there. And if you do steal things, or have in the past, the best way to avoid doing it again is to ask permission before you take something. Sound good?”

“... okay. Okay. Sluts and thieves aren’t the same thing... Okay.”

Trust the animator, really. That’s all Edgar has to do.

“Uh... Henry? What is a slut then?”

My god the laugh that Henry responds with was priceless. A honk, to give it a brief description. Very sudden and clearly very endeared.

“Where did you hear that word, you rascal? I can tell you for sure that you definitely aren’t one of those. Nor have you ever been one.”

“I HEARD ONE OF THE WORKERS SAY IT AND THEN I ASKED WHAT IT MEANT AND BELLA SAID IT MEANT A THIEF BUT I DON’T KNOW FOR SURE AND IF IT DOES MEAN A THIEF HOW DO I STOP!!!!!!”

He sounds panicked.

I just wanna know who keeps tellin’ this kid swears. Not that I didn’t fully know that bad words were bad at that age. You say that kinda shit at the top of your lungs when parents aren’t home, y’know? There’s no way these kids aren’t at least a little bit self aware.
