Why do people accept that the west lies about dprk but find it incomprehensible that the west also lies about pol pot

If this is Pol Pot apologia then don't even try

Maybe it's because there is no evidence that the genocide allegations are false or fabricated by the west. Maybe because Vietnam, a communist country, overthrew the Khmer Rouge because of the genocide. Or is it the fact that leftist sources attest that one quarter of Cambodians were dead within 4 years?

The US supported Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, mind you. Explain to me why the west would slander a government they supported. Meanwhile the west has sought regime change in the DPRK throughout the country's whole existence

I can't even believe I have to say this as a Marxist-Leninist, but just because it's a communist government that is accused of atrocities does not inherently make it untrue

There is an identifiable motive for the US and the western powers to slander most other communist nations. The Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, Cuba, the DPRK, there are clear motives in all of these cases. And substantial proof of the fact that many accusations are false, including a lack of evidence for the accusations

Radio Free Asia saying that children in the DPRK were shot for watching Squid Game is pretty fucking different to the Vietnamese invading Cambodia and finding killing fields

I hope that this is just ignorance, because if you do support Pol Pot then please get away from me

What's the communist parties situation in Australia like?

Oh my god not good.

I recently moved to Melbourne which is literally the most leftist city in the country and I had high hopes but they have been CRUSHED

The largest party which dominates socialist politics is a Trotskyist party that doesn’t even think Cuba is socialist and completely disavows any form of state socialism as “Stalinist bureaucracy”

Then there’s a small reformist group and a couple of vague socialist groups with no distinct ideology aside from kind of revolutionary socialism, but from what I’ve heard they don’t have any kind of specific ideology they’re organising based off of

The actual Communist Party of Australia is still Marxist-Leninist, but it’s very small and to my knowledge not popular, especially with younger people who mostly gravitate to Trotskyism

Even the Trotskyist party which is the biggest one is just predominantly university students, at least from what I’ve seen. Not that university students are bad or anything I mean that’s what I am, but I think it’s quite limiting

So yeah. Trotskyism dominates Australian socialism, most of the other groups are vague coalitions with no distinct base of organising, and the actual Communist Party has been left behind

I have no idea what I’m going to do. I want to check out the Communist Party since I consider myself predominantly a Marxist-Leninist but the other groups seem to dominate the movement

And look maybe once I get more involved I’ll see that some of these groups have potential but I really don’t have much hope at this point

We have:

The socialist workers party, who are basically entryist eurocoms who don't do anything and are a bourgouis party, pretty much

The RCP (who may be part of the same international as the party you are discussing) who are the revolutionary ultra left trots, they only good thing they do is they are good at social media, and have good takes occasionally sometimes

The Communist Party, the really old one, who just aren't too active? Like, I'm sure they do stuff, but I never hear about it

The young communist league, who do a lot of stuff (like releasing locusts in an arms convention) but don't do that much building of the communist movement (or so I hear) and are very small

The green party, who are ahead in polls as the most popular party in the uk rn and whose leader is a socialist but "doesn't want to discuss socalism", basically they are a soc dem middle class (primarily) org that has okay social democrat policies, and say they're anti zionist but their leader votes for pro-israel politics up until recently, basically they are doing vaugely left populism

The RCG, which I am part of. I mean, I like us, we do a lot of anti imperialist stuff but we're very small, much more invested in normal bourgouis methods of protest (think donations and protests rather than mutual aid), and shit at social media, though i am trying to fix that. We do have a lot of relations with Cuba specifically though, and the Ambassador from Cuba comes to our meetings sometimes, so that's cool.

But yeah, things certainly aren't great here. Lot's of people who would consider themselves left wing, no labour organisation. WOo

I haven’t heard ANYTHING about Cuba from the groups here, it’s just crickets. There was at least a rally about US intervention in Venezuela that I could attend, but I want to do something real for Cuba and I haven’t seen anything

The worst part is that I desperately want to get organised and make a difference but wtf am I supposed to do

I would initiate something myself but I don’t know how and the only leftists I know here are those counterproductive Trotskyist types
