The reason Rick Leonardi remains my favorite Nightwing artist ever is because of how scrunkly he makes Dick.

Dick is the scrunkliest.

You know, not to toot the horn of my own tags, but Devin Grayson makes Dick so likable, and it is such an underrated quality of her Nightwing. Especially for the first 10 or so issues. Sure, there’s a lot of focus on her Suffering™️ Nightwing, because Dick spends a lot of his time suffering in her arc, but Calm-Before-The-Storm Dick is a joy, and part of what makes the later issues so painful.

He’s intelligent and compassionate and quick-witted, but he’s also got quirks that make him downright endearing, even — and I overuse this word extensively but I mean it here — dorky as hell. He’s self-deprecating without being so down on himself that he becomes a pain to read. He stutters at times. He literally closes off a call with Babs by saying “mwah”. He’s hard headed and a bit self-centered, but not out of malice. It’s almost a passion-driven self-centeredness, like he believes so much in the good he can do and the help he can contribute that he forgets that he and everyone else is human. He’s so wonderfully flawed and such a tangibly nice person.

Like, Grayson’s Dick makes me happy. Pre-SHTF Devinwing is the closest thing I’ve experienced to the platonic ideal of having him warm and funny and kind without stripping him of his teeth or flaws, and imo it fits the artstyle so goddamn well.

After several months of struggling and having to replace the LED screen on my printer (do not recommend). I have finally got the gang all together!! A little late for Tim’s birthday but he is turning in a mission report so he may not mind lmaoo

OH! And the version of Bart with goggle lenses! The UV resin really helped clear the lenses, so I think it came out really good (even better in person!) I’ll probably keep them on in my display

Dick is so unserious.

1) Gets kidnapped. Looks absolutely furious in his ransom photo, which would be understandable were it not for future context.

2) Becomes Plucky McGee as soon as Bruce shows up. There are guns trained on his goofy ass and he’s flashing the dimples LMAO.

3) The side eye and the “Shall we begin?”. Like, okay bucko.

4) Breaks out. Note that there have been no changes to his status since before Bruce showed up, meaning he had the ability to escape whether or not Bruce came.

Conclusion: Not only was Dick fine, I’m pretty sure this was just an opportunity for Dick to say hi to Bruce and get out of college.

“Why didn’t Dick and Cassie Sandsmark believe Tim about Bruce being alive?”

He didn’t actually give them any evidence for it before running away. Didn’t even try to convince them beyond saying “he’s alive, I’ll prove it.”

He’d spent the past year trying to resurrect his dead family and friends. After 100+ cloning attempts and almost stealing Lazarus pit water, this just looks like Tim’s typical grieving pattern.

Dick, Tim, and Clark personally examined Bruce’s dead body and determined it was his!

Tim’s inner monologue in Red Robin 1 shows even he knows he’s driven by desperate hope and compounded grief: “He’s all I have and he has to be alive…Please, god, don’t let me be crazy.”

If Tim had turned out to be wrong I honestly believe he still would’ve gone looking for a way to bring Bruce back. Just like he did with Kon, Bart, Steph, Jack, and Janet.

Red Robin follows so clearly from Tim’s grief from losing Jack Drake and everyone else. DCU Halloween Special ‘09: “Our Father’s Sins” made this even more obvious by showing Red Robin Tim reflecting on his grief over Jack while he’s searching for Bruce.

Of course his friends and family think he’s grieving! He is! He just also happens to be right. Nobody is completely unjustified here.
