the reason champagne problems is so sad, to me at least, is because the girl singing is obviously dealing with some sort of mental illness and no one seems to care… the “this dorm was once a mad house, i mad a joke ‘it was made for me’” just describes perfectly how it is to live with mental illness and to make self deprecating jokes to cope with it. and the comment is so clearly glossed over and all her problems are described as “champagne problems,” as if they’re problems that nobody takes seriously. and at the end of the story the guy picks himself back up and finds another woman and has a happy ending, meanwhile… what does the narrator get??? all she gets is “she’s fucked in the head” with the imagery of watching her ex love with his new fiance through a glass window while she’s stuck alone on the outside.

Here’s a reaction video clip of me watching/listening to taylor sing TIMT for the first time after hearing her describe the envisioned meaning behind the song. I got incredibly emotional while listening (to the point where I actually had to pause the film for a bit after this song), because she had just described and acknowledged the legitimacy of the most terrifying core issues that jeopardize my life on a daily basis.

@taylorswift I doubt you will ever see this... BUT if by some miracle you do, I just want to thank you for being able to so eloquently articulate my feelings and experiences when I am at a loss for words. I know you love reaction videos, and while this reaction clip may seem sad, I see it quite differently. It is your ability to evoke my deepest, darkest emotions that I love the most. It’s that moment of “wait...holy shit... she is literally talking about me” that suddenly makes life seem bearable for a few minutes. It is an incredibly powerful thing to feel understood by ANYONE when you are feeling most alone, let alone by someone you so deeply admire.
