i wish we got more scenes where joyce grieved jane, who she’s loved as a daughter since season one. i wish we had one last emotional mother-daughter moment before jane left. you can’t tell me that she’s not absolutely broken about jane. she will not feel like herself for a very long time
i wish we’d seen an intense, emotional heart-to-heart between joyce and jonathan about lonnie’s abuse, joyce’s anxiety about will, and how all of it impacted jonathan.
i wish we got a scene where mike let himself be vulnerable with joyce. a scene where he needs a mom because he’s just a kid, but he’s been so busy worrying about his own for awhile now. lately, he’s just trying to make sure she’s recovering properly even with everything going on. so, joyce steps in as another mom to him and he ultimately finds himself opening up about how much will means to him.
i wish we saw joyce run into karen at the hospital, totally horrified by her injuries but pushing that pain aside to tell her that she knows what it’s like to have a child go missing and to comfort her.
i wish we had at least one scene where joyce mentioned knowing henry in high school, when he was just this awkward kid who joined the play she directed. i wish she talked to someone about how emotionally complicated it was for her to kill him with all those terrible memories starting from something so soft and vulnerable and seemingly ordinary from her childhood.
winona did an incredible job in st5 as always, i just wish the writers gave her more because much like she’s one of the most amazing actresses all time, joyce is one of the most amazing characters of all time. i wish we got more joyce, she’s truly the coolest with so much emotional depth and so many interesting dynamics with many, many characters, some who she barely interacted with. she’s more than just will’s mom 🤍
