Initially, it was supposed to be an alternate universe, a kind of ideal therapy for those whose favorite character is Newt. Since his death is too painful, in this universe Newt is an immortal deity.

But. Guess who figured out a way to kill God?

All you have to do is make God fall in love with a human, and he will give up his immortality to live with them.

The idea that has completely taken over my brain..

What if Newt had been working for WCKD from the very beginning? Traitor Newt AU.

One day, I came across a comment under a TikTok video:

«imo by "the glue" means he is the "key man" throughout the whole journey. He wasn't the actual cure, but the reason the cure was found.»

And that gave me an AU idea where Newt is actually the "trigger" that causes the antibody mutation in an Immune's blood.

As we know, mutations in the Immune happen under extreme stress. (You might remember how Minho was tortured by WCKD in the movie to obtain the cure from his blood.)

So Newt would have to be the person who mattered most to an Immune—the one with the highest chance of triggering the mutation. In this case, that's Thomas. His job would be to put Thomas through an unimaginable amount of emotional stress, by any means necessary, until the mutation was triggered.

So what does that mean?

In this scenario, Newt's death is what makes Thomas the cure.

His death is the catalyst for the mutation. Because the worst thing someone you love can do is die.
