"Eyes up, convict. I've been assigned to carry out vour penance. I'II be honest, any other captain would've had you killed on sight, so you should consider yourself lucky."
Hey! Im Plague! This is my Iron Lung account so I can yap about it
The Book of Enoch - Simon as St. Michael Slaying the Dragon
This is a photobash under the hood, that then got painted and "rendered." Not well, but, yeah, "rendered." It is based on a late 13th century illustration by an unknown artist that depicts St. Michael defeating the Devil.
The Book of Enoch isn't considered canon, but it's got all the fun stuff people like about Christianity like angels and mystic visions. You know, the GOOD stuff!
I don't think Simon is a Christian of any stripe that would count as one today. But bits and pieces of old religions endure in new ones. For example, the halo was originally used in depictions of sun gods like Apollo. When Christianity developed, artists needed a shorthand way to show divinity quickly and effectively to a largely illiterate population that would have been very familiar with the idea of gods and goddesses running around interacting with mortals, and also with how those gods and goddesses were traditionally depicted in religious art. Ta-daa! Just like that, the halo becomes Christian iconography, and the world just keeps on turning.
Clearly there are almost vestigial remnants of Christianity on Eden in the world of Iron Lung. The name of the space station alone carries a lot of weight. But, no, my goal in making this little piece wasn't to try and push some idea that Simon would have worshipped a Christian god or that he would believe in angels.
I promise, I just think of Simon as a dragon slayer, so it was either Michael or George, and Michael won the coin toss. :D
Darling Simon gets a halo here, but it looks to be made of uranium and a porthole made with Filament Station glass. Whoops.
For more about the Book of Enoch and for a the illustration I used to create my little Saint Simon, have a look below the cut!
13...In those days they shall be led off to the abyss of fire and to the torment and the prison in which they shall be confined for ever.
14 And whosoever shall be condemned and destroyed will from thenceforth be bound together with them to the end of all generations. and destroy all the spirits of the reprobate and the children of the Watchers because they have wronged mankind.
15 Destroy all wrong from the face of the earth and let every evil work come to an end, and let the plant of righteousness and truth appear, and it shall prove a blessing; the works of righteousness and truth shall be planted in truth and joy for evermore.
16 And then shall all the righteous escape and shall live till they beget thousands of children, and all the days of their youth and their old age shall they complete in peace.
17 And then shall the whole earth be tilled in righteousness, and shall all be planted with trees and be full of blessing.
-From the Book of Enoch, Chapter 4
Well! Wanna read about Sacred Trees and tortured sinners being bound together for eternity, and the righteous triumphing over evil and getting just a bunch of trees in paradise and such? If so, Enoch is one trippy book you could get into.
Like, look at this from Chapter 7:
Then Uriel, one of the holy angels who was with me, answered and said:
"This accursed valley is for those who are accursed for ever. Here shall all the accursed be gathered together who utter with their lips against the Lord unseemly words and of His glory speak hard things. Here shall they be gathered together, and here shall be their place of judgement.
I mean, don't you get "An arrogant god sees the world through a pinhole" vibes? I do! The eel screaming about the Light just kind of echoes in my head when reading passages like this.
Thanks for stopping by and coming to my apocryphal TED Talk.
Happy Iron Lung release weekend everyone! I’ve never bought something so fast XD and I finished my Simon photo card just in time too!
Now I’ll be able to take so many references of the movie! What did everyone like about the movie? Thoughts? I’d love to hear them! Also I’m still making those mark ego photo cards, just gonna take a bit!
🩸 Needless to say, it takes him a while to warm up to you, much less actually fall head over heels for you. It's a bit hard to grow attached to someone who your first memory of meeting was them tackling you to the ground and cuffing you. The only thing he could've said that was positive about you was that you told the other C.O.I members you were working with to stop antagonizing him when they were trying to rile up the infamous "Butcher". Besides that, he thinks it is pretty reasonable to not like you very much.
🩸 You are assigned to watch over his cell, though. Which means he has plenty of time to get to know you. Even if "getting to know you" mostly meant watching you standing outside of his door. He can't tell if it is better or worse than being left completely alone... Then, shockingly enough, you are the first to try to make some form of conversation.
🩸 "What's your name, anyways, convict? Can't literally be The Butcher, right?"
🩸 Nobody had actually cared to ask for his name up until that point. Well, aside from all the stuff for paperwork. Nobody who didn't need his name had asked for it. You sure as hell didn't. You've been cruising along smoothly without knowing it. So, you asking must be because you are curious enough to want to know his name. That's what starts the spiral, even if it is slow, at first.
🩸 He gives you his name... you give him yours. A few weeks later, you once again talk, rambling about the trouble some of the other convicts have been causing... he rambles about how much trouble some of the other guards have been giving him. You shock him, again, by saying you'll check on them. Then, the conversation fizzles out once more.
🩸 It goes on like that for weeks, months, and however long he's been in here. The sparse conversation that takes place over the course of a few sentences spoken over the course of weeks slowly, but surely, becomes more like an actual conversation. Instead of a few sentences over the course of weeks, it starts to become a full conversation about a loaded topic in one day. They become more frequent, too...
🩸 This is definitely better than being alone. That's for sure. Yet, that sickeningly sweet feeling of love doesn't quite settle in until a particular conversation you start. A simple question he's surprised nobody else asked. "What's with the little bracelets everybody in Eden seems to have?" With that simple question, he started to realize that you have some form of care. He doesn't want to assume it's for him, though. It's more that you care about what he tells you, or where he comes from... That suddenly makes him interested in you, in turn.
🩸 He suddenly needs your conversations... Every second he spends waiting for these now daily conversations between you and him feels like agony. Simon just doesn't know how to start them, himself... However, if he's having an especially difficult day, he'll try to talk to you first. Usually, whenever he starts them, he does so by asking about your job.
🩸 Then, it advances into asking about your life. Not extremely personal things. He'd seem suspicious if he asked about your family or friends... No. He'd ask more about tiny things. What's your favorite color? Your favorite food? Your interests? He swears, he's only asking because he's bored! Simon's not growing any sort of attachment to you! That'd be unhealthy... especially since you're holding him prisoner...
🩸 He does find it a bit more difficult to hide his emotions whenever he's outside of his cell, though. Whenever he's talking to you from inside of his cell, you usually have your back towards him from outside the door. You can't see how his face turns red whenever you ask about him, or how he relaxes at the sound of your voice. Yet, the second that door is no longer between the two of you, and you're leading him around the C.O.I? Simon has to desperately hide all of that, which he struggles to do. Mostly just because he's so used to not having to hide it.
🩸 This especially comes in the rare moments you touch him. It doesn't happen often, partially because you seem to trust him not to run off and cause trouble when you lead him to the cafeteria, the medical bay, or wherever he needs to be. Technically, you shouldn't be letting him walk without some form of a hold on him... However, whenever somebody who is higher up than you walks by, like Ava, you'll grab his shoulder to pretend like you're actually following protocol.
🩸 He hates how much he just... subconsciously leans into your touch. It makes him feel more than a little pathetic in the moment, even if you don't ever say anything about it. He's not even sure if you notice, to be honest. He's touch starved, yet also only really trusts you to hold him. You've proven, whether you know so or not, that you don't just see him as "the convict" or "the Butcher". He's a... person. A person that comes with all the flaws of being a person.
🩸 The moment he starts to realize that something is wrong with his affections, outside of the fact that he's falling in love with the person who's basically his prison guard, is when he started a fight in the cafeteria. In the moment, he hadn't fully thought about why he suddenly had the urge to cause a ruckus. For the entirety of his time at the C.O.I up to this point, he had been striving to prove himself as more than a violent criminal... As you tackled him down and dragged him back to his cell, though? He began to realize that you haven't talked to him, today, since you were tasked with checking on a different convict... He just wanted your attention.
🩸 He can't say he really regrets it, though... It did get your attention on him. That, and it did get you to to hold him, even if it was because you had to restrain him and take him back to his cell. He might've missed lunch, but that's fine. It's not like you are getting sent to guard other convicts very often. If he has to miss a meal or two every other month to send the message that he'll cause problems if the higher ups send you somewhere else, he'll miss them. At the same time, the fact that he's even having these thoughts scares him. He can tell they are unhealthy, but he also knows that nobody in the C.O.I is going to help him with them. Part of the reason he has gotten to this point is because you are the only person who's bothered to treat him semi-decently, after all...
🩸 Simon can't really... confess his feelings to you, like he could if you were somebody from Eden. If he did, he's not sure what might happen. He doesn't want to risk you getting assigned to somebody else just because he feels this way. That's tearing him up inside, because he is hoping that letting you know how he feels might help him cope with them. Otherwise, he's just going to be waiting in his cell, daydreaming about some unattainable future with you as he waits for you to talk to him... with a sprinkle of starting fights and riots so you'll have to stop him.
🩸 He doesn't want to live his days like this. Nothing about this situation is fair! If he could, he'd grab you and run far away from here, far away from Eden, and just... anywhere else. Maybe one of the smaller colonies? He'd even be happy just living the rest of his life in some tiny spaceship with you, in the farthest corner of the known galaxy. He wants to actually live, not just survive...
🩸 It was a stealth mission. The Consolidation of Iron had made a plan and so it was Simon's job to find a way to figure out what it was. Well, him and a small group of militia members. Somebody in this spacecraft had a hard drive with a copy of them on it that was being taken to Filament Station... That being you.
🩸 Simon had to be honest... he did feel a little bad when he grappled you to the ground. It became very obvious that you weren't necessarily experienced in fighting, nor did you expect to have to fight, when you sort of just... screamed and wiggled? If you were trying to use confusion to get him to lower his guard, it almost worked. Almost. Instead, he simply held you down tighter as he demanded you give him the hard drive and asked you for the passcode to open the file.
🩸 You were able to give him the drive... yet, you denied knowing what the passcode was.
🩸 Hence you being captured, now. What? You were compliant up until that point. That just made you noncompliant. Forgive him for not trusting you that you just so happen to not know the most important thing needed to get the information. It's suspicious, but you're too important to kill off. If you do have the code and are simply lying, killing you would mean losing the code. So, you'll just stay in that little cell they've put you in until you fess up, or one of your comrades fesses up.
🩸 What sparks an interest in you outside of simply "give the passcode" is surprising. You're extremely loyal to the C.O.I, and while he'd normally despise anybody who is loyal to them... he can't help but feel some begrudging respect for your devotion. You'll get roughed up for hours, only to stay quiet on confidential information, just because you're loyal. It almost reminds him of himself, to some degree. Just without the numerous killings he's done in the name of Eden. Strangely, for a C.O.I agent, you don't look like you'd harm a fly. Simon, more than anybody, knows that looks can be deceiving. Despite looking harmless, he won't let his guard down.
🩸 After a while, however, he gets the frightening realization that his respect might be turning a bit... Simon starts to feel some form of pity as he walks by your cell. You just look so sad in there. He's almost starting to believe you don't have that passcode that Eden needs. He finds himself stopping, one day, and simply peering inside your cell to look at you. He doesn't even know why, either. He just does. When you notice his staring and reasonably flinch away from him, he decides to start talking.
🩸 "Why wouldn't they give you the passcode if they let you have the drive?" Simon doesn't know why he asks that... He reasons it as simply being trying to give information out of you, but he knows the truth. His tone is much too soft to be just an attempt at getting information. He's curious as to how you'll respond in a more relaxed environment than an interrogation room. Your answer is pretty simple. If you got caught with the drive, but didn't know the code, Eden wouldn't be able to open it. If the person with the code got caught and didn't have the drive, Eden wouldn't have the drive to open it. Neither you nor whoever has the code know who has the other side of this arrangement so you wouldn't be able to out one another.
🩸 It's the same answer you've given before. Yet, for whatever reason, Simon feels a bit more inclined to believe it now that you've said it here. Here, where somebody isn't threatening you and tossing you around the room like a ragdoll. Where you, despite being terrified still, can be a bit more relaxed with the door between the two of you.
🩸 This starts a new routine for him. Every day, he walks by your cell and asks you something. It doesn't even have to be important to Eden's goals. Just small things. Do you miss the C.O.I? Do you have a family? What is your favorite food? It's honestly scaring him, because he's getting more attached than he wanted to. Meanwhile, it's probably scaring you, because he's the guy who pinned you down and captured you... that, and he's been more than a little involved in those interrogations... and now he's standing outside your door asking questions about you.
🩸 After a while, Simon decides he might as well try being more... how would he put it? Gentle with you. You haven't responded well to violence, and even if the others don't believe your answers, you still did give an answer during interrogations and this weird questioning him and you have going on. That's better than what some of your comrades have given Eden.
🩸 Simon starts moving the conversations from simple questions to more in-depth topics. You've told him about your family, so why shouldn't he tell you about his own? Or his favorite food, since you told him yours? You've told him a little about life with the C.O.I... would you like to know a little about Eden? Eden has The Last Tree, after all...
🩸 Needless to say, these conversations start to morph into an offer: just move to Eden. Join Eden. It wouldn't be the first time that somebody from the outside came in. It just isn't common. You could escape all of this torment if you just decided to live in Eden. He'd never tell you this, but he also wants you to join Eden so he won't have to feel traitorous for starting to grow feeling for you. If you just joined Eden, then it wouldn't be wrong to love you like this, right?
🩸 Wouldn't it be nice? You can wipe your slate clean of the C.O.I, come to Eden, and start a new life. You can get a nice little job, a little apartment... You and Simon can finally be on even footing, too, with this whole power dynamic gone... It'd be perfect, in his mind.
Summary: She deserves more love. However I cannot be normal about a single character. You work for the C.O.I as a medic in this set of headcanons. (I'm giving her a feather emoji because her name apparently means "bird, bird-like, and voice").
TW: Spoilers, Obsessive Behaviors, Possessive Behaviors, Probably OOC I'd need to watch the movie again to write her better-
🪶 Ava has learned to be a distant person. When a good amount of the people you meet are going to be sent down to an ocean of blood to die, it becomes second nature. She's used to seeing people only once or twice, then never again. Yet, you are a nice constant in her life. Someone who can ground her when things get too hard to deal with, when her body is sore from days of hard work, and when she needs somebody to give her advice.
🪶 She respects you deeply. Your work requires a lot of strength that she feels goes unrecognized. It's easy to look up to a captain, like herself, and see what stress she goes through. Yet, to be a medic, and to see all the damage and sickness people have been going through since The Quiet Rapture has made supplies scarce? She doesn't know if she'd be able to handle it, herself. Sending people down to die, where she can't see them, is already enough.
🪶 When her simple respect turns to love and obsession, though, is one evening where she went to see you. She doesn't remember why, or if she even had a reason. She just had to see you. You then went out of her way to ask her how she felt about sending people down to the blood oceans. After explaining her points to you about how it was worth it despite it being difficult to do, you disagreed, but said you'd still stay by her side. Something about the fact that you... we're so open and honest about your thoughts, but still respected her enough to stay by her, made her grow so much more attached than she already was. She's proud of you for not just being one of those "yes" people.
🪶 It made her believe you both were on some form of an equal ground, too. She's still your captain, so she does have authority over you... Yet, she thinks your willingness to be open to her somehow negates that fact. So, harboring such feelings for you is morally completely fine. Acting on them would be the problem.
🪶 So... how exactly does she cope with this? Loving you, but never really feeling like she could act on her feelings and confess? Well, she doesn't mind not being in a romantic relationship with you. If she has to stay friends, then she'll do so. She just can't stand the possibility of you finding somebody else and falling in love with them. She'll have to make sure that doesn't happen, and thankfully, she has the authority to do just that without spilling any more blood than needed.
🪶 Ava is sure you won't mind if people just... get stationed a bit further from you than usual, right? The other people who work in the med bay talk too much and are distracting you. Don't worry. She'll visit more to keep you better updated on what is going on with the rest of the crew. After all, information is probably getting to you a bit slower due to the physical distance between you and everybody else.
🪶 Keep up the good work. She'll make sure you know she's proud of you. Maybe you can even get a promotion to her assistant, soon?
Creeping in here to say i saw your yandere ava and wanted to offer you yandere Simon, who lowkey imprints onto ava like a lost puppy when she starts using his name, when she apologizes for not being able to free him, when she swears to save him if he can just get the info on that black box even if she's going directly against orders, and when elli tries to take her after ava came down in the sub (another imprint bc she didnt lie!! She came down!!! To save him!!!!!!) Simon Loses His Shit and his 'so you want the butcher? I'll give you the butcher' he is trying to butcher elli itself for trying to take (his!) Ava away from him
(Call back to "you just want me to ram it? At full speed?" And Simon doesn't even have to be told to do that to elli he is already on the ball as soon as he saw avas sub in its mouth and heard the fear in her voice)
OOOO HOHOHOHOHOHO!!! Im FEASTING!! This is alos a fun idea abt an alternet way that locket could end up being triggerd to break and become a tree. Simon after ramming into Elli will the full intent of if he dies it doesn't mater bcs Ava will be safe, could be injured enough for it to consider his body soil and burts forth, killing Elli early and possibly saving Ava. OR the alternitive of it kills Elli but incases Ava and now they're both stuck down there till they run out of oxygen. OR a scepret thrd idea that im too sleepy to think up.
I am a whore for "they some how live" au's [even if in reality those fuckers are gonna die of cancer from teh radiation SO soon] purely bcs it gives them both some more time to bond [and fuck] and thus Simon could get soooo fucking clingy and protective over her for the forseeable future. And Ava, who has been detaching herself from new relationships for years could possibly play into it/accept it bcs a mix of "this man seemed to do anything to make sure we survied and that makes me feel a lever of protection I havent felt in years" and also "i sent him down to die, i need to make up for this" its all so toxic and unhealthy but I'm a slut for that sooo
my soul... my soul for more yandere! Simon....... I BEG PLEASE YOU WRITE HIM SO WELL
ok I'm just gonna drop some ideas here you can explore if you want that I've been thinking about:
- yandere simon with a deceased reader that died at Filament Station because he couldn't get to them in time, maybe? like all angst and oh nooo he can't live without them and then he starts hearing their voice and having hallucinations of them in the sub and generally having an awful no good time (maybe some worship??? crumb of him treating you and the eel as one body in terms of it taking your voice and mimicking it to talk to him and the whole thought of death being his "coming back home to Eden and moreso to you"??? Idk I'm just the ask guy)
- yandere simon as a father or like at least an uncle or like an adoptive figure. I need- I NEED this man to have kids in a sort of fix-it fic scenario or at least as like headcannons I need it (would he even want to have kids? would he dare to hope to have kids in the scenario in which he either survives by himself or gets rescued by the C.O.I. and like the world turns out to be okay or in the scenario where like he gets teleported somewhere else, like in ahwm or iswm or anywhere in the markiplier cinematic universe and has a chance to live a normal life??? the public (ME) needs to know AND I'VE SEEN ZERO FICS ABOUT IT)
- just spending time with him. I need fluff time with yandere Simon I need to tell him how much he means to me on a daily basis. like how would he react to affection? would he be able to process it??? I need to pet his hair and hug him so hard we melt into one being please
- scaring the reader as the Butcher after he came back to you in Eden post-mission (pre-movie period) and his reaction to you being scared of him.... would he feel bad??? How would he make you feel safe??? Would he blame himself??? I need... I need butcher Simon being mean and scary and out of control with a sweet and nurturing love interest PLEASE I NEED THAT MAN TO INVOLUNTARILY CRUSH ME AND THEN FEEL BAD ABOUT IT- who said that??? wow the voices are loud today (essentially just a deeper exploration of the whole notion of him scaring you like he did in one of your other headcannons where the reader got captured and he went on an Achilles-style rampage (Madeline Miller edition))
anyways, just... anything for yandere Simon I BEG I BEG I BEG I've been lurking on your page for specifically him, doesn't even have to be what I'm giving you just anything please 😭😭😭 whatever you're comfortable with
also keep up the good work I'm so impressed by your writing I hope you're doing well wherever you are
OKAY ONE THING THAT WAS MENTIONED HERE GAVE ME A BIG BRAIN IDEA- So I've seen a lot of Iron Lung x ISWM... Makes sense. They're both in the future/space related.
I'm sending that doomed future man back to the 1920s now by doing a Yandere Simon x the DA. I just think it'd be interesting.
Also thank you so much for the compliment! I've been doing alright, and I hope you're doing well, too!
Yandere Simon x District Attorney Reader:
TW: Slight Iron Lung Spoilers, Obsessive Behavior, Clingy Behavior, Manipulation
At first, Simon had no idea how he got to here. He had simply fallen asleep in his cell, hoping for one last nice dream before he got sent underneath the bloody waves of the blood moon. Instead, it was a dreamless sleep, before he suddenly awoke to the feeling of grass on his back and the sounds of a startled shriek. To be honest, he still has no idea how he got here. He's simply realized that it doesn't matter. All that matters is that he's much closer to being free than he was with the C.O.I.
He'd learned that he had woken up in the backyard of the... mayor? Yes, mayor. That's the word. A man named Damien. The shriek was from his sister, Celine, who had witnessed him "just appear out of thin air, with a loud snapping sound". Luckily for him, Damien was in the same room, and although he didn't see Simon appear... He certainly saw that there was a man in his backyard that appeared with a snapping sound. So, the mayor believed him.
Then came the difficult part of figuring out what to do. Which was where he met you... A district attorney. You. He was brought to the city hall to get everything sorted out and you happened to be there. You seemed more than a little intrigued by what was going on, sticking around to try to help where you could. Even now, sitting in the living room of your home, he sometimes wonders what exactly got you so interested.
Unfortunately, he's not living with you as your partner. He's realized, over an unnervingly short amount of time, how much he'd love it if that were the case. Instead, you and Damien had decided that he... seemed a bit too unaware of how basic things worked to be able to live on his own, at the moment. That, and considering the fact he just appeared, it would be too risky to send him somewhere public. What if he was in a shelter, only to just disappear? That'd cause a "mass panic", as Damien puts it, that he "wouldn't want to be associated with that".
So, Simon living with you for the past few months has been more out of a necessity and you voluntarily helping him than anything. Yet, you have still been so kind to him. You cook him meals and teach him how to cook them, himself. You let him have snacks instead of three strict rations a day. You even show him how all these strange, outdated technologies work. Even with how historically ancient they are compared to where he's from, they're still so... impressive. Some are even lost, such as the television. There's screens where he comes from, but not anything that shows video like this. He even got to see you point out a friend of yours in one of those "movies"... A man named Mark.
Simon's favorite thing about you, though? You haven't ever assumed he is stupid, like the people at the C.O.I did. Sure, you seem to approach every new thing like there's a 50/50 chance he knows what it is, but that's understandable when one of your first impressions of him was him confidently saying that he doesn't know what a mayor is. There weren't any mayors in his time, just... Father. In fact, with that in mind, he's shocked you aren't treating him like he's an idiot. Instead, you've just been introducing things, looking to see if he understands it, then giving simple instructions when he doesn't. You even complimented him on how quickly he's understood things once you explained them.
You haven't been pushing him to tell you what he's been through, either. Simon just had to say "I don't remember much" and you believed him. Nowadays, the most you ask is if he remembers anything, then you drop the topic. You don't need to know things that... haven't happened yet? Happened in another universe? He still doesn't know... but it doesn't matter.
Simon is here, now. He's in a universe that isn't dead. It's full of planets and stars and people. God, he doesn't think he's ever seen so many people in one place, before. Men and women and children all wandering through actual streets with beautiful blue skies... All wearing actual clothes and not scraps of cloth that have been scrounged together. It made him cry the first time he fully processed what he was seeing. Hell, he also cried the first time he saw it rain, and when you checked in and said "Yeah... it's always gloomy and depressing when it rains, I understand." he simply didn't know how to respond. How would he even begin to describe the fact that he's crying from joy at something you, and most likely everybody else, view as depressing?
Yet... you're the most beautiful and/or handsome person that he's seen, so far. Not just in looks. He knows that looks can be misleading. It's also in your personality. As said before, you've been so kind. Yet, you also seem so... complex? Not that the people from his own time weren't complex. He thinks it might be that, without having to worry about the future of humanity and simply getting food, you've been able to grow to have more interests and goals than simply surviving. You're ambitious. You've been trying to better the world. You have interests in books and movies and law. Those are all things he barely had time to think about, before.
Simon wants to be more with you. He's seen the couples out on the street that have been cuddling and holding hands. He's seen them with their children, helping to raise the next generation of people. That's another thing he hadn't had time to think about, before... having children. He doesn't know if he'd be a good father, but he thinks you'd be amazing at raising a child, if you ever wanted to. It's not needed, and he'd go a long with whatever you wanted, but it's just... he never thought he'd even have the chance to, until now. Simon is thinking way too far ahead, though...
He used to not mind the idea of not being by your side all the time. Truly, he didn't mind. You could be talking with Damien at work, or maybe with Mark over the phone, or to whoever when you went outside. Simon, despite wanting to enjoy the world, felt more comfortable inside, for now. He feels he'd stick out like a sore thumb. He's used to being confined inside of walls with no outside to even go to. It's been hard getting used to the fact that there even is an outside to the walls of your home... So, he's mostly been sticking inside, waiting for you to return to him. Yet, things are changing, tonight.
Simon looks up as he hears a shrill voice in the other room. "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! SHE JUST-?! LEFT ME?! FOR HIM?!" he hears, causing him to stand up and peak into the room. You're on the phone with someone... Mark, he thinks. Usually it's Mark whenever it's this late. You speak up, trying to reassure the man "Mark, I-" He cuts you off, still in hysterics, but his voice quieter now "How could she?! I thought things were going well between us? Then next thing I know, my own friend swept her away?!"
You keep trying to calm him, before noticing that Simon is in the room. Your eyes widen, before you make a gentle gesture for him to leave. Either you need to focus entirely on talking Mark down, or you can tell he's screaming so loudly that Simon can hear it. Hell, you're holding the phone far from your ear to not hurt your hearing.
As Simon steps back out, however, the damage has already been done. He'd heard about Mark and Celine being together, of course, so it isn't any mystery to him who "she" is... He even remembers seeing her with someone else, who he doesn't know, going out to places. Just the two of them. He'd always assumed it was just a friendly outing, though, so he never told anybody. After all... two people could just be really close friends that want to hang out without their other friends. That's a normal thing...
Yet, now it's making him wonder about you. If Celine truly ran off with somebody else so easily, then it would be even easier for you to get taken from him. It's unreasonable to think such a thing and Simon knows it. You aren't together in a relationship. You aren't his. You aren't any sort of object that could be "taken" from him. For some reason, though, he can't bear the thought of you finding somebody else to be with. He can tolerate just being friends and roommates, but seeing you with somebody else? As much as he knows he should just be content with this new chance at a better life, he cannot let that happen.
Simon is sticking by your side every second of every day, now. It's easy to do so, with how desperate you've been getting to help him become more independent. He can just claim he's trying to get more used to being outside, so that he could eventually become comfortable with the thought of getting a job, then moving out... Like he's ever moving away from you. That'll never happen. A job? Maybe.
He wants to provide. Not just for himself, though, but for you. Simon wants to be with you at the store, with you at appointments, with you at any meetings with friends... He's grown especially weary of Damien being around you too much, so of course Simon wants to be around whenever he's with you. The only reason why he has been holding back from simply... removing him from the picture, as well as doing the same for anyone else, is because he's sure it wouldn't be as easy as it would've been in his own time. Here, there's enough people to have a police force, detectives, and even a whole news station and papers to cause more people to know about crimes committed. It wouldn't be worth it to try, especially since Damien is the mayor...
Oh, you got invited for a poker night at Mark's manor? Surely, there's enough room in that place for him to visit, too, right? Let him go with you. Especially since Damien is going to be there. What if something goes wrong while you're gone? Don't leave him home alone.
