It’s not fair that, just because Paige is a girl, and her friends are boys, that they are EXPECTED to buy her candy, to the point this total stranger SHAMED them for not doing so.

Also, judging by Paige’s icon pic, she’s a teenager. It’s probably fair to infer her friends are also teenagers. A teenager’s ability to pay their friends’ way is significantly different to an adult’s (I presume your husband’s friends are adults) ability to do so.
