I just had an idea for a really dumb comedy sketch where a transphobe starts ranting about what really makes a women a woman, and diogenes returns each time with a different cis woman or outwardly femme intersex person that doesn't meet the criteria saying "behold, a man!"

Cannot emphasize this enough, do not sign for a loan with someone you're dating. That shit is already used for so much abuse within marriages but to be financially attached to someone you're not even married to will cause you nothing but problems. Don't do it

Dont co sign for that car your boyfriend of one year wants. Do not take out a joint loan with that person who only just moved on with. And for the love of God do not sign for a mortgage with someone you would not legally attach yourself to in the eyes of the state. That person now can wreck your credit and has unbelievable control over your ability to get loans and housing going forward. Don't fucking do it

hi I work for a USA based company that does loans. often the only way out of a loan in a case like this is bankruptcy and that doesn't make it disappear. I've seen plenty of people sign loan documents and then immediately regret it and that was just for them. if you wouldn't legally bind yourself to this person for the term of that loan in marriage? do not sign for it. your relationship breaking apart will not be sufficient enough to get you removed if that person becomes vindictive.

if that person doesn't pay for 4 months and you don't get notified and PAY FOR THEM? it will come back on you in an incredibly harmful way. your credit score impacts so much of your ability to navigate the world and while that sucks and I hate the system it is how it works. if they don't pay you are responsible and I've seen this turn horrible even for people with kids together who at some point used to like each other.

if for some reason you do do it, look for things like cosigner release. also make sure you're actually a cosigner and not a coborrower or coapplicant. a lot of personal loan companies have weird ways of classifying people. so before you sign any documents call the company and get an explanation of your role in the loan process. never sign a loan document for anyone under any circumstances before making sure you understand the document. I Never mind if people call in and ask me questions for 30 minutes before signing. ask questions. ask for a manager politely if you can't get a good explanation on something (you'll likely not get an actual manager but someone who has the time to listen more carefully to you and do research). you will not be getting out until that money is paid back one way or another.

financial abuse is one of the worst kinds of abuse, ime. even if you leave, you'll be feeling this for the rest of your life.
