Hey so you know how people always talk about transmasc erasure? Coming across that paper on Tumblr discourse on transandrophobia reminded me of something.

When I was doing my criminology degree, I went to several professors with several thesis ideas, and all of them were denied. These were all ideas based on transmasculine crime and victimology stats. Every professor shot down every thesis I had on ideas related to transmasc victims of various crimes.

Their reasoning? There's no need for this. This is useless. Nobody is interested in reading about trans men and transmascs being victims of crimes. They wouldn't even let me do my thesis on estimating more accurate stats on transmasculine victims of homicide. Which is an INCREDIBLY important thing!

So yeah. Next time someone talks about how trans men and transmascs aren't victims as much, remember this. Researchers don't want to research this. They won't allow people who want to do so, to do so. I couldn't get anyone to advise me on these papers.

When I was settling on my name, I had white trans people around me tell me that my name would be too hard to pronounce or too long for most people. [Four syllable Latin name, go figure]

I'm glad I didn't listen and decided to stay true to myself and I chose a traditionally Afro-Brazilian that still makes me happy to this day. Don't feel pressured to assimilate or make yourself more palpable for white people, little reminder!

I know SEVERAL afab nonbinary people who, as soon as they came out as nonbinary - immediately began dressing in ridiculous hyper-femme outfits they never would have worn before.  A lot of people see this and say shit like “Theyfab” or say they are only nonbinary for attention.  After all, look how femme they are.

But to me, this makes perfect sense.  When you are forced into the category of “woman” against your will, femininity is a chore.  It’s a job that you have.  As soon as you say no, I’m not a woman, suddenly femininity isn’t your job anymore.  It’s not a requirement.  It’s just a fun hobby you can get into.  Or a little treat sometimes.

Anyways I think a large part if the fandom's aversion of tmasc and tman Noelle comes directly from the idea that straight trans men are 'betraying' the lesbian community / lesbianism by transitioning , which itself comes fron the idea that trans people are all just gay with internalized homophobia. To those people interperating a lesbian character as tmasc / tman is erasing the lesbian identity of said character , thus betraying lesbianism through a fictional character

Well, I'm Black and survived lots of trauma and child abuse, which admittedly colors my opinion but here's a run down:

ODD (or Oppositional Defiant Disorder) is a diagnosis almost solely given to Black and Native/Indigenous American kids (and its often given to Black/Native/Indigenous kids who display the same symptoms that get their white counterparts diagnosis' like PTSD, Autism and ADHD).

The symptoms of ODD largely revolve around "disliking authority figures", "being angry", "defies rules and authority figures", and "argumentative". I think like, 50% of kids in prison get diagnosed with it in the US.

Its not used to help kids, its used to label them as "bad" for displaying feelings and things that are often explicit signs of trauma and/or neurodivergence, especially kids of color!

The "science" (or lack thereof) behind it has been torn down repeatedly and yet the DSM-5 continues to keep it there so people can use the diagnosis to fuck kids over. And its not just the racism that pisses me off, to be clear!!

The explicit bigotry in having a disorder that boils down to "your kid is angry, doesn't trust adults and argues a lot", especially with the state of ageism in the world is so dangerous for kids and fucking despicable.

Some women are conditioned to be fragile and weak, and to believe that it's a sin to outperform a man. Her feminism would involve allowing women to be strong.

Some women are expected to be strong at times when they can't. Her feminism would involve reassuring her that it's okay to not be strong.

Some neurodivergent people are raised to believe that they're too stupid to ever amount to anything. Their disability activism would involve reassuring them that they're capable.

Some neurodivergent people are raised to believe that they're smart and gifted, and are expected to live up to impossible standards. Their disability activism would involve allowing them to fail, make mistakes, be stupid, etc.

Some children are constantly reminded "you're the child, I'm the adult" in order to deny their autonomy. Their youth rights activism would involve treating them like an adult at times when they feel ready for it.

Some children are treated like adults in order to justify increased expectations or to downplay abuse against them. Their youth rights activism would involve allowing them to be a child.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to oppression. Each individual person's experience is different. Whatever trauma is caused by their oppression, the activism should focus on undoing it.

Im still like. Upset lookism is not accepted as a real actual axis of oppression and you can get clowned on or assumed to be some sort of incel/femcel if you think that. Which is a weird reason to dismiss it because I don't just mean it affects struggles with dating I mean it pretty all encompassingly can make your life worse from social alienation and less leeway for normal human mistakes and behavior (which can be literally dangerous! So many people don't understand how important having social support is when it's a given to them. For example I have health issues and I'm forced to navigate that all on my own despite the effects the health issues have on me making it difficult to do so) to considerably lessening your work opportunities and even your capacity to get an education (if people are consistently nasty to you in those settings you may not be particularly motivated to do so). Your life can shrink to being so small and there's such an considerable difference how even strangers you're just trying to get a service from and go about your day can unconsciously treat you. You can get worse medical care and be treated poorly at your most vulnerable. And then there's the ableism and transphobia and classism tied into all of this of people assuming something wrong with you or that you're a threat when you're also just going about your day. Anyway boggles my mind it's not just considered a real thing. Random ramble and idk if i'm making sense bc I'm dealing with pretty horrible levels of brainfog rn due to mysterious health stuff and I have no idea how I come across

Lookism is absolutely overlooked in the general discrimination talks. It is also constantly encouraged in all political spheres to give less value to people.

And it's effects can be devastating in a lot of ways, that in this post I won't go into, but maybe some time in the future.

The thing is that it intersects with a lot of the more commonly/typically talked about discriminations. As if it has anything to do with your appearance it will intersect with lookism.

But this goes with everything. I'll do a list of the things that people are discriminated about and I'll try to keep updating it every now and then:

RACISM

MISOGYNOIR [PT: Misogynoir]: Black women/feminine presenting people being deemed more masculine just based on their skin color (also intersects a lot with transmisoginoir for Black trans fems).

COLORISM/ANTI-BLACKNESS [PT: Colorism/anti-Blackness]: Black people generally being deemed masculine, also with commonly associated masculine traits (aggressiveness, anger issues, being able to withstand a lot emotionally,...). And then being deemed as dangerous for it.

ORIENTALISM/INFANTILIZATION [PT: orientalism/infantilization]: East Asian people generally being deemed feminine, also with commonly associated feminine traits (gentleness, cuteness, helplessness, etc). And then being infantilized for it.

SEXISM/INDIGEMISIA [PT: Sexism/indigemisia]: Men/masculine presenting people having long hair.

INDIGEMISIA [PT: Indigemisia]: Hate for tattoos and piercings.

ORIENTALISM [PT: Orientalism]: South Asian's people's hair being deemed oily and dirty.

TEXTURISM/ANTI-BLACKNESS [PT: Texturism/Anti-Blackness]: Curly/coily/afro hair being deemed unprofessional.

ANTI-SEMITISM/ANTI-BLACKNESS/ORIENTALISM/ANTI-ARAB [PT: Anti-semitism/Anti-Blackness/Orientalism/Anti-Arab]: Big noses being deemed as ugly and bad.

ABLEISM

DISFIGUREMISIA/DEFORMISIA [PT: Disfiguremisia/deformisia]: Deformities and disfigurements being often treated as body horror.

INFANTILIZATION [PT: Infantilization]: Mobility aids being deemed as ugly and the users/disabled people in general being deemed as non-sexual/non-desirable just because of their visible disabilities.

ANTI-DWARFISM/INFANTILIZATION [PT: Anti-dwarfism/infantilization]: People with dwarfism being deemed for that as non-sexual, and conflating other people's attraction to them as inherently "pedophilic" (often said like that, but actually referring to predatory behaviour, don't conflate paraphilas with abuse please).

SEXISM

MISOGYNY [PT: Misogyny]: Women/feminine presenting people having short hair being deemed as bad.

INTERSEXISM/EXORSEXISM/TRANSPHOBIA [PT: intersexism/exorsexism/transphobia]: People who visibly are androgynous in some way/don't seem to fit the sex or gender binary being badly threaten for it.

TRANSMISOGYNY [PT: Transmisogyny]: Feminine presenting people not fully adhering to what is socially seen as "woman" being deemed not feminine enough and being seen as predatory.

ANTI-MASCULINITY/TRANSANDROPHOBIA [PT: Anti-masculinity/Transandrophobia]: Masculine presenting people being deemed as inherently dangerous and a threat.

AGEISM

TO OLDER PEOPLE [PT: To older people]: Being deemed as not desirable/non-sexual.

ADULTISM [PT: Adultism]: Young people being deemed "pure" as in non-sexual (which are not synonyms by any means by the way), and if they look young being seen as too young to know what they're talking about.

A pregnant trans man posting a video about hypocritical "allies" brings so much positive energy (/sarc) because people will see a video explicitly about pregnancy in men and the comments will

1. Assume you're talking about (perisex*) cis men.

2. Be confused.

3. Blame you for not specifying that you're talking about trans men.

Like, whyyy do you need the existence of men who can get pregnant spoonfed to you like a baby in a high chair. It's genuinely your own goddamn fault if you see a video about men who can get pregnant and you only think about the ones who can't. Like that's literally JUST critical thinking.

This isn't even getting into the comments on this video that are outright denying that trans men are men cuz there's definitely plenty of them, it's about the ones who go on to whine about how "they're not transphobic they support trans people" in the replies when people correct them.

*Adding the perisex qualifier because none of these people ever even consider the fact that intersex men exist, trans or otherwise.
