Decided I’m just gonna hammer out these last two gift arts, I was almost done with ‘em so I figured there was no reason to put 'em off as part of some arbitrary queue order. =P Anyway, here’s Gaia’s character Mercutio! He’s a captain of the Beanbean Kingdom royal guard and seems like a pretty nice dude. :D Hope you like!

Send “Weaponmaster” and a weapon

That last part. Geraga had slipped up at last, when she had said her words when he had spoken of those strange rumors, the same that culminated in that fateful night months ago..

...that traitor would have no chance against her...

Violet WOULD have a chance without the Dark Star with the right other tools to deal with Midbus and Fawful, but only if Cackletta was dead still. If Cackletta was alive....

Jade’s eyes seemed to shift like a camera lens, focusing solely on Geraga’s eyes for a split second, then shifting down to the surface of the bridge. Again, like before, he thought he could see the shadow of Cackletta behind Geraga, balling her fists for the brief moment Geraga did so, until she addressed his earlier question regarding her visit to the Queen.

At least Queen Mameria was doing okay. With that, Jade felt like Violet would have legal action to face, now that someone else had survived his terrible actions. Someone to speak out and force away all of the Bean’s masks until the truth emerged..

But there came another question- one regarding the security.

“....Geraga, I must ask you. I’d assume that security would tighten significantly because of the threats to Her Grace’s life that Violet had made. ..What made her lower your guard around you? As far as I know, only a few currently have her trust.. it doesn’t make sense why a single Bean out of many would be picked, unless they had known her intimately..”

He frowned slightly, putting his hands in his coat pockets again. He thought on his next words carefully, glancing again at the moat nervously, almost wishing it wasn’t frozen so he could jump in and essentially run away from Geraga before she caught on that he was Jade of the Teal Rebellion and not this stupid fake identity of his. Then there was the question of her connections to Cackletta, the shadow on the ground and how she regarded Fawful..

So, he blurted out a question, praying he wouldn’t get tossed into the moat for making a guess based on only knowing so little.. It made sense considering Geraga knew her more intimately like Fawful did..

“Are you Cackletta’s daughter then?”

Somewhere in the distance, his mind screamed that the particular thought wasn’t the right way to go, but his logic screamed back that he was on the right track. Only a family member of Cackletta would refer to Fawful as her little sprout, but only a family member of Cackletta would say ‘my’ little sprout. Thus, he figured inside that Geraga HAD to be Cackletta’s other child, a more recent addition that ended up being split away from her to join Gera later in life..

“...There is, if say, the rumors became reality.. That’s what I fear. How else would Violet have supposedly stabbed the queen? Why else would he have a reason to go after the Dark Star other than to beat Cackletta to the punch before she ever dared rip him from his other task of besting Fawful? If Fawful’s active again, so must Cackletta, right?”

The challenge came unexpectedly from “Beanard’s” mouth, a past argumentative self of his that used to exist before Violet ever came to have the title of General, but it also made him feel somehow terrified of Geraga’s reaction, considering the spectre of Cackletta he’d seen earlier in the snow.

“..Who’s to say the rumors aren’t true? Anything seems so possible here.. Fawful could’ve somehow used necromancy to bring her back. He was her child, after all, and he could’ve had the access to learning the Koopa variant of it when Bowletta was a thing..”

...Then came a mention of something he didn’t expect. A visit to Mameria, even after that devastating attack...? There was silent relief in his sinking stomach, that Mameria was okay enough for visitors, that Violet hadn’t somehow eviscerated her as he’d thought. The old Beanish ex-general hadn’t brought it up, so Jade had assumed at the time that Mameria was too sickly to function.. With some audible hesitance in his voice, the gold-haired Bean spoke, stopping at some part near the middle of the bridge, staring out into the moat.

“..You went to see the Queen? Is she in good health? W-what did you do, exactly? I thought the security would be pretty tight.. It’d make perfect sense if Mameria was almost assassinated, if those posters I saw at some point about Violet’s crimes are correct..”

Geraga’s words made a point- essentially that the rumors were a bit more recent..

Even then, the gold-haired elder Bean had a rebuttal ready, closing his eyes as he continued to walk behind her. “To b-be perfectly honest, the rumors have been around for y-years, supposedly. Mostly, they remained in the Beanbean Kingdom. Perhaps yI h-happened to have missed that, but.. they’ve only begun to kick off. At the very least, I know they’ve been a-around since last Christmas before the Christmas that just passed. I haven’t been paying much mind to it... because of what happened eight years ago.. I was s-scared of Cackletta. Still am, actually..”

He had a much bigger shiver this time, a genuine one formed as it rippled through his short body, his cheeks slightly flushed with blue from the cold environment. Now, though, “Beanard” had the distinct feeling he was being watched again, seeing that Geraga’s magenta hues were pointed to his shorter self and warm brown eyes. She soon tore his earlier comment apart, speaking of spring.

...It made him think perhaps the cold snap was some sort of omen relating to the Dark Star and the disappearance of Mario and Luigi and Peach..

“..Maybe if we’re l-lucky, the cold snap will end soon, heh. I’m tired of cold weather..”

The garden was coming closer and closer, as were the light peach and pink castle walls, which had a thin layer of snow on top of them, and the area was deserted of Toads. The moat surrounding the thick stone bridge was frozen solid with a paper-thin layer of snow covering the translucent ice, probably off-limits for skating since the cold snap was likely to go away soon with the arrival of snow. (Not like “Beanard” was any good at skating..)
