I know it’s been a few years since this fandom was especially active, but I have been trying to give the community a shot in the arm.

Hatchet looks between Tiffany and Diesel, mouth hanging open slightly as he starts to feel the awkward air hanging between his brother and the Breeder. The Breeder has nothing to say about the pups being taken, but that doesn’t seem to make anything better.

“Oi, Leaf!” calls Hatchet, seeing a Breeder he likes and using her as an out. “Good to see you back! Ready for a new Pup?”

The younger Imperator hops up to his feet and hurries over to another group of women, escaping Tiffany’s uncomfortable silence.

Diesel sighs heavily as he watches his brother run off, shaking his head in disapproval. He’s glad his brother got promoted to Imperator with him, but Hatchet takes nothing seriously without the threat of the Immortan’s wrath looming over him and it is more than a little annoying.

“Hey, come here,” Diesel says softly, draping an arm over Tiffany’s shoulder and gently pulling her against his side. “I know this isn’t how you ferals do it out in the Wasteland, but the Immortan only wants the best for us. If you have a boy Pip, he’ll grow up strong and fearless with his brothers. If it is a girl pup, she’ll stay safe here, up top. She’ll be taken care of until they find out if she is a Breeder or not.”

Her glare became even more intense upon hearing this last piece of information and she pulled away in disgust.

“That isn’t the deal I made.” She told him sharply, over-enunciating the way she did was she was getting increasingly angry and trying not to lose her cool.

“I promised to help your current....’breeders’ with their pregnancy and deliveries, not to contribute to them.”

She hastily began gathering her clothes.

“I keep the promises I make, but I am not to be pushed around. And I am certainly not going to give my own children to...to anyone.”

Tiffany’s passive aggressive quip goes completely over Hatchet’s head, who just continues to sip at his water contently, but Diesel feels the sting. He flinches back a bit, then considers reaching out for Tiffany and holding her as she processes the hard news.

He knows Breeders are attached to the Pups they birth, but those Pups belong to the Immortan and need to be raised up to serve him properly.

“I know it sounds tough, but it is for the best. The Immortan wants them to be strong warriors and they can’t be that if they don’t grow up surrounded by their warrior brothers,” Diesel says cautiously, trying to explain it all to Tiffany. “But you get to spend time with them. Both when they are in your belly and out of it… And you know for sure they are yours.”

Diesel only gets to put the Pup in the Breeder. After that, he’s only a mentor to any grown War Boy deemed worthy of being an Imperator.

She gave Diesel a hard look from the corner of her eye. Having lost a couple pregnancies, she knew that the time spent with a child didn’t make its loss any easier. In fact, it made it far worse. But of course, he couldn’t know this,, so she tried not to hold it against him. Still, it didn’t improve her mood at all.

“Hm.” She answered shortly, just to indicate that she had heard him, but obviously did not agree.

Hatchet gapes for a moment, still confused, then snaps his jaw shut, embarrassed. Diesel’s ears turn red, an embarrassed chuckle escaping him.

“Okay, no. None I think. If he has Breeder parts between his legs, he is real good at hiding it,” says Diesel, Hatchet snickering in the background. “But that is good to hear… We don’t get to know who our pups are. Once they are weened they are put in the Den with all the other Pups and looked after by their Minders.”

“We may not get to know them, but that don’t mean we don’t want them to be alright,” says Hatchet, shifting closer so he can sit beside Tiffany, Diesel by her other side. “To grow up into War Boys or Imperators that would make the Immortan proud.”

Tiffany was not pleased with the news that any babies she had would be taken away so some stranger, probably an unqualified War Boy reject, could “mind” them. She frowned and glanced sideways at Diesel.

“How unfortunate for you.” She commented. She wondered if there would be a way for her to know which of the children were hers, just in case she ever got the chance to sneak them home with her.

Hatchet shrugs and Diesel frowns as he tries to guess how many babies the Mechanic has helped birth, but isn’t able to come up with a number. The Mechanic has been around since Diesel was a War Boy, and he helped birth most babies born to the Citadel. He always helped with the Immortan’s wives, that is for sure.

“Are they Full-Life? Ah, like us,” Diesel tries to clarify, motioning towards his healthy body. “No lumps or bumps, or busted limbs?”

“Born strong and good? With a smart head?” asks Hatchet.

"I meant personally," she laughed, in response to the shrugs and puzzled looks. "I doubt that he has personally given birth to any children."

She stretched and hugged her knees to her chest, leaning back into the pillows.

"I guess so. There's nothing wrong with them, if that's what you're asking."

That wasn't quite true; her oldest had terrible tremors in his limbs sometimes, and one of the babies that hadn't made it had been born blind, but that was only two of her many pregnancies, so she didn't find it worth mentioning.
