Kurt will slip into German when he’s similarly incensed. Or after he’s spent time with Sieglinde or in the Coin Barracks, his accent will linger for a few days. And while he can follow along with the conversations between De Sardet and Constantin in French, once they start speedily talking with their hands gesturing madly, he gets a bit lost but manages the gist of it.  If Friendly: He finally relents and teaches De Sardet some of the more exciting curses in the language for when they are fighting. If Romanced: He spends a bit more extra time learning the more complex side of French to tell De Sardet how much they mean to him and later confesses his love for them in the language.

Vasco follows along well with every language, having spent his whole life traveling from port to port. He can be well involved in conversation for every language except that of the Yecht Fradi.  But the Nauts “main” language is a Spanish/Portugese mix that they only ever use among the Seagiven and Seaborn. If Friend: When it comes out that De Sardet is Seaborn, he takes it upon himself to begin teaching them the Naut language, starting with the colorful phrases. If Romanced, he whispers all the different terms of endearment in bed, teaching them the various meanings and applications and reciting poetry in the language.

Siora slips into her native language in battle freely and openly. She uses it colorfully and specifically to talk smack about the others without them knowing. When it’s revealed De Sardet’s parents were native, she begins teaching De Sardet her tongue when they express interest to. If Friendly: The two share jibs and jokes over time as De Sardet gets more comfortable with the language.  Siora spends less time having to explain the context of each joke or cultural reference as De Sardet gets it. If Romanced: Siora confesses to De Sardet well before she does so in their common tongue. Calling De Sardet by pet names without them knowing. Its only when De Sardet begins to learn the language do they finally understand exactly how long Siora has loved them. Similarly De Sardet reveals the French terms of endearments they’ve been using as well for just as long.

Aphra gets so involved in her research that half her notes are in Arabic and the other half are in common, she easily switches between the two, creating a sort of cipher. She ends up teaching this to Morian, Yewan, and Dunncas to make sure her notes are accurate. When speaking however, she’s very focused on the content of what’s being spoken so it’s hard for her to lose track of which language she’s speaking and with whom but can switch effortlessly. If Friendly: She will create a ciper using the Congregation’s language, Common, and Arabic so they can send write in secret when they are far apart. If Romanced: They send secret love letters back and forth with De Sardet when they aren’t near, or leave pick me up messages around the residence.

Petrus is a diplomat and so has to know the langua franca of any nation he visits. As it is he is passable in French, German, Yecht Fradi, and yes even in Arabic despite the hostility between Theleme and the Bridge Alliance. But when he’s praying, thats when you hear his first language, Italian. If Friendly: He teaches De Sardet what he knows of Yech Fradi, having learned it from Arelwin. But also similarly teaches them his language as he takes them under his wing to expand their magical knowledge.

De Sardet realizing they’re in love with Kurt after the attempted coup because they can’t stop thinking about the “what ifs”. Like what if he followed his orders? What if he turned against them? What if they had to duel, but this time, it wasn’t just a practice exercise?

They hate thinking about the what ifs but can’t stop. The thoughts are overwhelming. They look at Kurt in the days and weeks following with a swollen heart, and finally it all makes sense. They can’t imagine a life without him at this point, and not just because he’s been their master of arms for years. But because there’s...something more to the feelings they’ve tried to bury for so long.
