Day 1 - Mutual Pining (wrong time, wrong place)
"Justus meint es nicht so", griff Cotta ein.
"Ich meine es sehr wohl so."
Justus Sassy Jonas??? excuse me.
Hey hey😇 Long time no see, I hope 2024 has been treating you all ok (though it’s been rough, needless to say)🥲💗
I don’t normally do this, but I’m in need of extra funds, so I wanted to post a reminder that I have a store with prints and merch of my art! I had to switch back to Redbubble, link below. Perhaps some of you might be interested, especially before the holidays, if it's not too late!
💚STORE💚
Note: if there is an item or art that you’d like but can’t find - you’re welcome to reach out, I’d love to make it available for you!
💚You can also support me directly: ko-fi.com/upthehillart💚
ALSO, there will be some commission action over at @upthehillnsfw soon, I'll be posting what I'm making - so that's something to look forward to!🌶️
Thank you to anyone who can afford this and to everyone who’s still here🥹💗 I wish to have more time and energy to create more of what I regularly daydream about anyways, I can’t wait to be a more active part of our community again 🌠 Much love💗
Ordered a print and a *few* stickers from @upthehillart and all of them are lovely!

Are These Filter Words Weakening Your Story?
After putting my writing on hold for several weeks, I decided to jump back in. I expected to find all sorts of problems with my story–inconsistencies in the plot, lack of transitions, poor characterization–the works. But what began to stick out to me was something to which I’d given little thought in writing.
Filter words.
What are Filter Words?
Actually, I didn’t even know these insidious creatures had a name until I started combing the internet for info.
Filter words are those that unnecessarily filter the reader’s experience through a character’s point of view. Dark Angel’s Blog says:
“Filtering” is when you place a character between the detail you want to present and the reader. The term was started by Janet Burroway in her book On Writing.
In terms of example, you should watch out for:
To see
To hear
To think
To touch
To wonder
To realize
To watch
To look
To seem
To feel (or feel like)
Can
To decide
To sound (or sound like)
To know
I’m being honest when I say my manuscript is filled with these words, and the majority of them need to be edited out.
What do Filter Words Look Like?
Let’s imagine a character in your novel is walking down a street during peak hour.
You might, for example, write:
Sarah felt a sinking feeling as she realized she’d forgotten her purse back at the cafe across the street. She saw cars filing past, their bumpers end-to-end. She heard the impatient honk of horns and wondered how she could quickly cross the busy road before someone took off with her bag. But the traffic seemed impenetrable, and she decided to run to the intersection at the end of the block.
Eliminating the bolded words removes the filters that distances us, the readers, from this character’s experience:
Sarah’s stomach sank. Her purse—she’d forgotten it back at the cafe across the street. Cars filed past, their bumpers end-to-end. Horns honked impatiently. Could she make it across the road before someone took off with her bag? She ran past the impenetrable stream of traffic, toward the intersection at the end of the block.
Are Filter Words Ever Acceptable?
Of course, there are usually exceptions to every rule.
Just because filter words tend to be weak doesn’t mean they never have a place in our writing. Sometimes they are helpful and even necessary.
Susan Dennard of Let The Words Flow writes that we should use filter words when they are critical to the meaning of the sentence.
If there’s no better way to phrase something than to use a filter word, then it’s probably okay to do so.

CHERIK AGE GAP?!?! CAN Y'ALL SEE THE VISION?!?
Do you want a Top Three Age Gap Cherik Ranking?
I heard a yes. [i will drop recs at every oppurtunity you give me]
1. How To Successfully Ruin Your Life
https://archiveofourown.org/works/1822126/chapters/3913456
Age Gap AND Coffee Shop AU. Charles is a barista with a horrible family, Erik (feared by everyone) enters. Charles isn't afraid, because fuck, Erik is hot.
It's my favorite cherik fanfic. Read it, you won't regret it!
2. After School Special
https://archiveofourown.org/works/717333/chapters/1328731
Teacher/Student AU, but a lot of the plot doesn't actually play during the time they have this power imbalance, but afterwards. Great plot, great twists, great characters.
3. Age Difference AU
https://archiveofourown.org/series/11901
A series with three little fics, including a tamer Age Gap but the lovely constellation of Erik being Raven's best friend. Fantastic portrayal of emotions.
Charles who lusts for Erik is just... argh.
So I finally watched Deadpool & Wolverine and-
sound on 🔊 artificially recreated scene from last week please share ⚠️TW: jumpscare sound
me at 12: reading cherik fanfictions for the first time in my native language
me at 22: being the only one left writing cherik fanfictions in my native language
I have no problems reading in English, but I wish there was someone else writing in German. I want to chat, gossip, leave comments on each others work.
thank you, I will never smile again
Finished 🫡
The ending of Dark Phoenix makes me feel insane because it's the first time cherik roles are reversed. Charles is so done after all, and Erik is the one begging him to move with him, pathetically. Karma is a bitch.
i dont know who told james mcavoy and michael fassbender to make their characters fuck raw with their eyes in every x men scene but we owe them everything
We all know throughout the X-Men movies Charles continues to hold on to hope and he continues to see the good in Erik...
But what if one day Charles loses that hope? What if one day Charles has enough of Erik breaking his heart over and over and over?
(Ofc this is assuming cherik is canon...)
What is the most hurtful/angsty line Charles could say to Erik (that makes Erik cry and feel so hurt)?
"If I could do this all over again, I don't want to fall in love with you."
"I just realized... you're not worth it."
"You're not capable of love."
"I was wrong about you. I was wrong to think you were a good person."
"I want to dig out my heart so I never have to feel anything because of you."
"You think humans are our enemy, but you're the one who hurt me the most."
"I wish I never knew you."
"That day... I should've let you drown."
"You should be alone, Erik. You don't deserve love."
"I don't care if you burn the whole world down, I'm tired of even seeing you."
I'm a coward, so I haven't seen the finale of X'Men 97 before, but today I watched it.
And I just witnessed the most romantic lines of dialogue ever spoken in a series.
This dialogue between Charles and Erik in Erik's mind after their fight - what the fuck??? it was beautiful? 🥺😭
If they’re bringing the X-Men to the main mcu verse then they better grow some balls and film an on screen Cherik kiss
my hope for all deadpool movies was that he somehow starts commenting on fanfics and how they want to see cherik smooch.
SPOILER - DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE
Wolverine sparing the enemy just for them to betray them afterwards; Charles really would be proud. It's exactly what he would have done xd
(charles still loves you, logan)
