Why we RP NPCs in FFXIV:
Community events
To assist others with their plots, should they desire
For screenshots
For a pleasant surprise during Dungeons, FATEs, etc
FOR FUN.
Things you probably think we do but we donât:
We DO NOT force ourselves upon your roleplays.
We DO NOT do it to deter from your plots.
We DO NOT do it to disrupt the community.
We DO NOT expect you to roleplay with us.
We do this to have a good time. Please donât belittle us for having some fun; we are as considerate as we can be of you, your time, and your own experiences. Please be considerate of ours. :) We are here if you need us and all too happy to go about our own business if you do not! /o/
Hey there!
A bit of a concern here, you do not expect us to interact with NPC roleplayers. However I have seen a heap of people at the Grindstone. In response a few of my linkshells were on fire with complaints, and that includes myself. I donât mind people roleplaying NPCs, but it does feel very much as if some NPC players as of late are trying to shove their roleplay down our throats by showing up at public events, trying to interact with others who prefer not to interact with characters like that for a multiply reasons. For me personally? It shatters my immersion, and I know A LOT of people felt the same.
Iâve had a friend of mine who had a huge clash with /a/ Yâshtola roleplayer on an OOC base because she refused to interact with said person. This really saddened me to hear such, because I know most of you arenât assholes, and just like to do your own things in private.
I know you are probably not a bad guy, but the things you said you do not, does happen. This does need to be addressed, and I do ask you kindly to keep other roleplayers in mind as well. Not everyone wished to interact with NPC roleplayers. Hells, Iâve roleplayed with some NPC RPers for their storylines, as a nameless drone NPC in the past, but they kept it in private. However as of recent as Iâve stated, I see more and more in the open, trying to be accepted by the community whereas it at this rate it is only prone on backfiring, due to people being highly uncomfortable with NPCs players interacting with their PCs.
Please NPC roleplayers, keep the rest in mind, and well, keep⌠things private and do not seek to disturb the community. Thank you.
Hey there! Thank you for your response. First off, Iâm VERY sorry this happened. That kind of thing isnât cool. In asking for respect, I absolutely expect those of us who do to respect you. :( There is zero excuse for that kind of behavior, and itâs rude to shatter immersion like that. I suppose in making that post, I spoke for myself and the majority: when Iâm running around, I do not jump into other roleplays; that is not my place. I like to linger and people-watch, and any interactions I might do are pre-determined and from others approaching me. Itâs not my place and itâs very rude and unfair of me to attempt to make it so. Thatâs not why I do this. I appreciate you not lumping us all together! Iâm also hoping that some of us will see this and keep this in mind; Those of us who play NPC characters REALLYÂ need to be respectful of what we do, as well. We can observe these roleplayers and events (i.e., Grindstone), but itâs not our place to interfere or interact! We SHOULD NOT expect others to interact with us, and we SHOULD NOT force ourselves upon others. For us to earn respect, we must give it! I thank you for bringing this up! It absolutely needs to be addressed. /o/Â
Thank you for your reply and understanding on top of that <3 :)
I made a rant earlier on my tumblr so I donât know if this was sparked by me or not but what Ave said is true. I was actually the player who dealt with /a/ Yâshtola NPC player trying to RP with me in the Quicksand a bit ago. They were emoting at me in which I kindly sent them a whisper that I do not wish to interact with a lore character and that I felt it was ruining my immersion. I was polite and had asked them to just ignore the fact I was there and wished them luck on their venture only received responses of hate and being called an elitist for not wanting to RP with someone who was RPing an NPC.
The Runestone last night had an NPC take part in it. She announced herself as who she was and everything. This is where the issue arises as there was a huge concern through the LS about if she should be allowed to take part or not; afterall, we were putting a normal player using magic against an all Powerful NPC (Not naming names though Iâm sure many of your know)
THANKFULLY, she disconnected during the match and the DC timer started and finished so she was DQâd and the player just moved on without really having to worry about anything else.Â
I donât mind having OOC fun with NPC players and I will often give them a highfive if they do a good job of making the character but I feel as if many of them are losing respect for others and starting to demand things the rest of the community may not agree with.
I like a lot of the NPC RPers and very much look forward to their posts on tumblr, but I do agree that there are a fair number of people who when given leave to play an existing character will abuse the hell out of it for their own gain. Either maliciously or simply because they were caught in the moment. Case in point, back when I was on another MMO there was someone who RPâd an NPC over 4,000 years out of time - which, alright, I donât care - but who also threw regular tantrums if they didnât get their way and even tried to player kill forty people at once during an event because they got their feelings hurt. This person also crashed another RP I was in at a later time and ignore any attempts by my character to realistically deal with the situation - which mainly involved trying to counter them within the limits of my characterâs abilities, but they always came back with âno I can block that, not I can block thatâ. It was their way or the highway.
As such while I really, really adore the dynamics the Heavensward players are bringing to the community Iâm VERY leery of NPC players as a whole; and I hope that those who are playing them learn from what apparently happened at the last Grindstone. Iâve seen that that player has apologized, and good for them for doing it, but I think this needs to be taken as an abject lesson in respect from both sides. Without respect we as a community are nothing after all.
I follow a lot of NPC RPers here on tumblr because I love seeing you all around and having all your posts on my dash, especially screenshots of the characters. But please, please avoid public RP on these characters, or at least understand if people playing OCâs donât want to interact with your character.
I second this. I donât mind if people RP as NPCs so long as they do it in their own world. I doubt the NPCs would bother themselves with normal, every day life stuff and to honestly think that you, the player, know how what an NPC would do after only seeing them in a few short cutscenes enough to RP them in a large, open, expansive world is kind of disheartening. Not only that, but these NPCs are supremely powerful characters (for the most part) and getting into altercations with other characters, regardless of who they are or might be is simply unfair and abusive of the RP in of itself. Like someone said above, many will use it for malicious reasons and I, personally, will ignore an NPC RPer should I see them out in open RP with other PCs.
