A Salsa Success
Paulette Bleam , a former San Francisco State student, now works for a startup called Sumazi. Sumazi is social networking site that helps “intelligently connect you to the people you don’t know, but should.” It is a website that is building off of the Facebook platform by working off of your currently existing networks. It differs from all the other social networks out there such as Twitter and so on by making connections that could potentially change your life. Instead of just creating connections with people you already know, you are making connections with people who could assist you in getting jobs or internships for example. Paulette tells her story of how she sort of danced her way into Sumazi and onto a successful life.
No More Zipper Control
We all have had a pair of jeans in our lives that we love. Let's face it every time you slip into them you looked at yourself in the mirror thinking 'Damn I look good.' The fact of the matter is that jeans have X number of years to remain faithful to the curves of your body. In that time, you two become the best of friends and you know they will never fail you in time of need. Then comes that day when for some reason you have to add a few more hops and body rolls into your pants dance number you perform. Suddenly, the zipper falls off track, and you instantly drift into a state of depression. The jeans that you wore through all those dates, through all those meetings, dinners, so on and so forth are now nothing but damaged goods. Without delay you begin to scramble through your creative side you suddenly have in order to find a quick fix to these jeans to avoid the whole friend on 'zipper patrol' for the remainder of the night. You decide to safety pin the jeans along with accompanying your cute top with an awkwardly long undershirt to provide yourself with double coverage (you can never be too sure with the safety pin trick). The point of this story is not to give you ideas on how to fix that pair of jeans that you love, rather it is to apply this to the reality of our past. We all have moments in our lives we wish to forget or we wish we could hold onto for the remainder of our existence, we all have people we wish we could erase from our memory or wish they would not forget who we are, whatever it may be a common mistake is holding onto the past too tightly. Just like the jeans that have 'done-good' for the past few years and are now layed to rest, we must always remember never to dwell on what or who has been put behind us. They were put there for a reason. Some things were not meant to be patched up (or in our jean's case safety pinned). We can spend our lives finding a tailor to repair what we have possessed for so long just so we can get that 'Damn I look good' feeling back into our lives. What we can so is spend our precious time finding a new pair that give you that extra oomph when walking down the street. All to often we do not allow ourselves to move on and control only the controllables, instead we tend to put all of ourselves into trying to make something work. If I can give you any advice from personal experience with relationships, grudges, and whatnot it would be a simple phrase, let go and live. The present is happening the past is done and the future, well that right there my friend is out of your control. So be in the moment and cherish it. Get rid of the grudges, the unhealthy relationships, the mistakes you made, etc. and better yourself now. Live a little, go buy that new pair of jeans, let the old ones retire, and the put the past to rest. Quote of the day: "If you dont go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you dont ask, the answer is always no. If you dont step forward, your always in the same place." - Anonymous.
