June Drabble: Day Thirty - Love
Draco looked thinner than Harry remembered, gaunt, but his pale hair gleamed in the soft light of his professor’s chambers as Harry stepped through the floo. Harry wanted to rush forward, hug, touch, assure himself that the other man was really near him again, but Sirius had warned him not to do that, to let Draco guide how they proceeded there.
“He’s who’s hurt. And you might hurt, too, but his pain needs to come first. Once you give him time to heal, you can.”
Taking a breath, Harry met Draco’s gaze. “I was assigned to check you out when my superiors found out you were hired at Hogwarts, and I did run into you on purpose because of that. At first. But I really liked being around you, liked you, and by the time I fell in love, I’d forgotten why it all started. I was so happy with the now. And I’d like the chance to prove that to you.” Harry held his out. “If you’d let me.”
[So, I know this ran a little long and doesn’t wrap it all up, but it’s where/how I wanted to end it here. I’ll be turning this collection of drabbles into a story on ao3. I’ll post a link once it’s done and up, if you want to see how that turns out (shameless plug, lol)]
June Drabble: Day Twenty Nine - Butterfly
Greg lay on his back next to the Black Lake, head in Luna’s lap as she played with his hair and Neville curled next to him. The three had been together officially for a month, and though they’d faced pushback from some, for the most part, their unconventional love was accepted. His family disowned him after he disavowed their pureblood prejudice, and for the first time since then, he felt like he had a future again.
Neville sighed softly, breath butterfly soft, and Greg smiled, tightening his arm around one lover as he turned his face into the other’s touch.
June Drabble: Day Twenty-Eight - Depress
Depressed, Harry paced his office. His cases were closed, paperwork filed, and desk reorganized three times. He was exhausted but knew he wouldn’t sleep at home. He’d see Draco in his bed, lithe body moving beneath his. Remember how it felt to wake up to his soft snores, plan breakfast together, imagine a day spent wrapped up in each other. Then see the look on his face when Harry’s stupid mouth ran faster than his brain.
Looking up as an owl tapped at his window, his hands began to shake as he recognized the deep green seal on the letter.
June Drabble: Day Twenty-Seven - Tall
“I don’t want to hear it.” Draco stood and turned toward the castle, sweeping past Ron.
The taller man caught his arm. “I don’t care. The two of you are miserable apart, and I miss my best friend being happy.”
Draco’s composure snapped. “Oh? Miss everyone’s hero being comfortable about using me? Miss feeling okay with lying to Draco Malfoy, former Death Eater and all-around bastard?” Draco sneered. “I’ve worked hard to be more than my past, but at least my poor behavior stemmed from love.” He turned to leave, stopping short when Ron spoke up again.
“So did his.”
June Drabble: Day Twenty-Six - Practice
Draco sat on the sidelines, elbows on his knees, watching Slytherin’s first Quidditch practice, trying to keep his mind focused on anything but the man he’d been avoiding for the last few weeks. Harry had sent owls, even shown up on Draco’s doorstep. He didn’t want excuses, though. He’d lost the last tie to his family over loving a man who saw him as a mission. Draco blew out a long breath and scrubbed his hands through his hair, letting his head hang.
“You look as bad as Harry, mate.”
Draco tensed as a too-familiar redheaded man walked toward him.
June Drabble: Day Twenty-Five - Wicked
Ginny knew what she and Hermione were doing was wrong, that sneaking around with her brother’s girlfriend behind her boyfriend’s back was more than a little wicked. Worse, Hermione was pulling away more and more, the guilt overtaking the pleasure. Ginny knew that unless she made a choice and made a move soon, she was going to lose everyone she cared about. Gathering her courage, she stepped into the room set up for students to make firecalls. She swallowed hard enough to choke herself when Harry’s tired but smiling face appeared but maintained eye contact. “We….we, uh, need to talk.”
June Drabble: Day Twenty-Four - Leather
Harry dropped into one of the leather armchairs in Sirius and Remus’s sitting room. “I fucked up. I didn’t think of him as the case, he’s just Draco. I didn’t think...”
Remus and Sirius exchanged looks before Remus spoke. “I know someone who forgot to think, once, and it almost ruined something really beautiful.”
Harry started. He’d heard of The Prank but only vaguely. “How did he fix it? How did he undo the damage he’d caused?”
Sirius laughed softly. “For starters, he apologized. Then, he learned to think and act like someone with a future and something to lose.”
June Drabble: Day Twenty-Third - Brooch
Draco yawned and rolled over, finding himself alone. On the side table, he found a hangover potion and his wand next to a strange-looking brooch. Harry poked his head in as Draco downed the potion.
“Hey! I thought I heard you up.”
Draco nodded. “Yeah. Hey, um. The semester starts soon, and….what happens once I’m back at Hogwarts? With us?”
Harry shrugged, “Honestly, I hadn’t thought past the case, so....”
“Case?” Everything seemed to go fuzzy and dim as Harry’s eyes widened. “You mean me. I’m the case.” Without thought, Draco grabbed his wand and turned in place, apparating away.
June Drabble: Day Twenty-Two - Book
After a lot of conversation, the threesome had agreed to several one-on-one dates to see how each felt about the others before coming back to discuss if a future existed for them. Luna enjoyed physical closeness and affection but wasn’t necessarily interested in sex. Neville exclusively liked boys, which was part of where his shy, awkward behavior came from. And Greg didn’t so much worry about male or female. He just knew he loved these two people. Neville and Luna had been close before getting to know Greg, though, and the more time they spent time together in pairs or as a group in the common room, the bonds between each became more obvious.
Luna looked up from her book, smiling at the two boys. “Honestly, I don’t see why we can’t work, so long as we’re honest with each other.”
Neville, the most nervous of the three because he didn’t want to hurt Luna by not being physically attracted to her, smiled back, reaching out to squeeze both the other’s hands. “I-I’m willing to try.”
Greg felt the tension he’d been carrying months seep away as Luna also took his hand. “Me, too.”
June Drabble: Day Twenty-One - Delirious
It was raining, and Draco was more than a little drunk when he apparated onto Harry’s doorstep.
“What the hell, Draco?” Harry drug him inside, casting drying and warming charms. “Are you delirious or something?”
“They threw me out.” Harry froze as Draco continued. “Said I had to choose between loving you and being their son, but…” He shook his head, “That’s not fair. That’s not a choice. I should be allowed to love you.”
Some emotion Draco couldn’t understand passed over Harry’s face, and his wand clattered the floor before he hauled the other man into a steamy kiss.
June Drabble: Day Twenty - Paint
Sirius never expected to be happy. Once he realized he wouldn’t follow his family’s plans, he’d resigned himself to survival and then rebellion. James threw a wrench in that plan when he took Sirius in as family, and Remus further complicated things by teaching Sirius to love. He hadn’t been sure things would return to normal after Azkaban and the second war, but here Remus sat, helping paint over the family portrait his mother had burned his name from. “We should make our own family portrait.” Waiting until Remus looked over at him, Sirius pulled a ring from his pocket.
June Drabble: Day Nineteen - Lecture
“You haven’t told him, have you?” Luna smiled as Gregory’s face turned as red and splotchy as Neville’s had been a few minutes earlier. “He doesn’t know you love us both?”
Greg’s head snapped up, jaw slack. “You. You. How did you?”
Luna tapped his ear then her own. “The Wrackspurts leave you alone around us both.”
“I don’t know what to do,” Greg whispered, his eyes watering. “I don’t want to hurt anyone, but I don’t want to lose either of you.”
“You won’t lose me.” She smiled again. “Maybe after his Transfiguration lecture, we should talk to Neville?”
June Drabble: Day Eighteen - Grow
Greg sat with Luna, her fingers carding through his shaggy hair as she read the Quibbler, when Neville’s patronus entered the room, saying the Leaping Toadstools he and Greg planted were starting to grow. Greg grabbed Luna’s hand, and together, they ran through the castle and down to Greenhouse 3.
“I just saw the shoots, and I had to—” Neville broke off, his gaze on the other’s clasped hands. His smile faded, and his face mottled. “I had to call you before I ran to class.” He grabbed his bag and left, avoiding the other two as he did.
June Drabble: Day Seventeen - Suppress
Draco suppressed the want to cower from his father’s cold stare. Though he knew his father’s weaknesses, he still longed for his love, his approval.
“We thought you dated that Parkinson girl in school? And the older Greengrass daughter?”
Draco nodded at his mother. “I did. I date who I care for, and I care for Harry.”
His father shook his head and stepped forward. “We do NOT care for this development. Either you will date a good pureblood girl.” He slashed his hand to the side as his wife tried to cut in. “Or you can leave. For good.”
June Drabble: Day Sixteen - Riot
Draco had broken from his family’s beliefs and behaviors, but he still had dinner at the Manor at least every other week. This week, however, he was expecting something between a riot and full-blown war. His mother and father were waiting as he exited the floo.
Straightening his cloak, he saw his father holding the Prophet and felt sure it was the one with the picture of him and Potter kissing. “Mother, Fa—”
“Tell us this isn’t true.”
His father’s words cut him off, but he raised his chin. “It is. I—I think I’m in love with him.”
We don’t even need Disney. Shoutout to the young black writers, directors, producers, animators, we can make it happen.
I want to see her get a portrait like a typical modern service picture. Face on, medals showing, the whole bit.
Say her name.
Here’s some pics of her bust in Leavenworth Texas!
I think that’s Leavenworth, Kansas, not Texas, but still cool
