❝ they say time heals all wounds, but that presumes the source of the grief is finite ❞
that’s actually MERRICK ‘MERRY’ JUGSON. he is a 21 year old PUREBLOOD wizard/werewolf who is A BARTENDER AT THE HOG’S HEAD / ILLEGAL INDEPENDENT OBLIVIATOR. he is a RAVENCLAW alum and the child of MAGNUS MULCIBER and ALITHEA MULCIBER NÉE JUGSON adopted child of MIDAS JUGSON and ORIANA JUGSON NÉE GIBBON. he is known for being CYNICAL, RECKLESS, FAITHLESS, VENGEFUL, and AMORAL but also RESOURCEFUL, INNOVATIVE, ADAPTABLE, HARDWORKING, and CLEVER, so that must be why he always reminds me of the song BAD MOON RISING BY MOURNING RITUAL and WASTED POTENTIAL, A FAMILY FULL OF SECRETS, BEING WRACKED WITH INNER TURMOIL, STRUGGLING TO STAY AFLOAT, and A LIFE BUILT ON OTHER PEOPLE’S MEMORIES. i hear he is aligned with NO ONE, so be sure to keep an eye on him.
Trigger Warnings: child abandoment, chronic illness, death, murder, violence, violence against a child, poverty
Born Merrick Mulciber his surname was legally changed to his mother’s maiden name when he was adopted by her brother and his wife. Merry is a childhood nickname that only certain people are allowed to use.
His parents both died when he was very young, he doesn’t actually remember them. In truth his mother ran away not long after he was born. He has always been told that she died along with his father because his adoptive mother thought it would be less cruel than telling him the truth - that his mother straight up abandoned him because she fell in love with another man.
Oriana Jugson is an angel amongst death eaters. Her husband has been in azkaban for years leaving her poor and with a young child, and then she took in a second child. Kind of mother who wholeheartedly went hungry most nights so her children could eat. By the time she took in Merrick her health was already failing. She’s still around now but is still gravely ill - honestly, at this point she’s just holding on so Merrick won’t be alone.
As far as Merrick knows he is the only child his parents ever had. ( His mother actually had a secret child with her first love, and a third child with the guy she ran away with. ) He doesn’t think of himself as an only child though, he will always refer to his cousin/adoptive brother, Roman, as his brother.
Now, Roman, can’t introduce Merrick without a section on him as he is so intwined with Merrick’s life... up until now BECAUSE DOVE KILLED HIM. He was sixteen years older than Merrick so by the time he was adopted into the family Roman had already left school to get a job and earn money. With Oriana’s failing health Roman helped raised Merrick as well, and was the only male figure in his life.
Money has always been a struggle, it eased up a little when both Roman and Merrick were able to work, but was made harder when as a child Merrick was turned into a werewolf by Greyback. Those monthly wolfsbane potions are expensive and there have been months when Merrick has had to go without.
Roman is the reason Merrick has never become a death eater. Mostly because of Greyback. Ever since Merrick was turned Roman has done his best to keep Greyback away.
Merrick always did really well at school. His studies weren’t often his main focus, but he enjoyed them. ( I kind of imagine him like Sokka when he’s trained by his master - perhaps not the conventional, or even right, solution but a good, out of the box, solution none the less ). He would have left school early like Roman, but stayed and did his NEWTs, he did want to do them, but mostly because the school provided him with wolfsbane potions.
He already a part time job at the Hog’s Head so simply went to full time straight after leaving, so he’s been there for years now. His other work has taken time, Merrick’s just gotten to a place where he’s built up a good reputation. He’s an independent obliviator, and obviously a lot of people are wary of having someone so young mess with there minds. However, it helps that for the right price Merrick with remove any memory - including those based around illegal activties.
Now that Roman is dead his work as an obliviator is even more important as it’s all on Merrick to pay for his potions and Oriana’s care on top of day to day necessites. Death Eaters have started circling trying to recruit him, definitely using Roman’s killer, an order member, to their advantage.
Merrick is aware that Dove is responsible, and he is slowly trying to plot his revenge, but for now he believes doing nothing is the best revenge. Merrick believes that it is far more frustrating for her if he does nothing that she can react to. If he attacked, then Dove could defend herself. Besides, no one would ever take the side of lowly kid associated with the death eaters over a Longbottom whose an Order member. This doesn’t mean Merrick won’t sling insults at her or direct his grief towards her if the two ever come across each other. He’s only human.
He also believes that just because she thinks she was righteous in her decision to murder Roman that doesn’t mean she’s not evil. If the death eaters are truely so evil then they’d be the only ones doing the killing. That’s how he sees it anyway - which, aside from Roman, is why Merrick hasn’t joined a side. He’s amoral, but also logical.
❝ watch your tongue around her. she will bear her fangs and tear you apart with all the grace of a queen ❞
that’s CRESSIDA RAYNE-KARKAROFF. she is a 30 year old HALF-BLOOD witch who is PSYCHIATRIC HEALER. she is known for being RUTHLESS, MANIPULATIVE, PROUD, STRONG-WILLED, and CALLOUS but also AMBITIOUS, PERCEPTIVE, INTUITIVE, DRIVEN, and INTELLIGENT, so that must be why she always reminds me of the song WHITE FLAG BY BISHOP BRIGGS and A SILVER TONGUE READY TO CURSE, LATE NIGHTS PLAYING CHESS, WOMEN RULING THE WORLD, SOMETHING TO PROVE, RED LIPSTICK and LEATHER JACKETS. i hear she is aligned with THE DEATH EATERS, so be sure to keep an eye on her.
Trigger Warnings: death, murder, car accident
Cressida was born into a family where the women were strong and the men were weak. Raised predominantly by her grandmother and mother she was brought up in a household with a very strong female presence.
Her maternal grandfather was Igor Karkaroff, who has pretty much gone down in history as betrayer and a coward. Honestly, Cressida would love to personally thank all the death eaters that hunted him down and killed him. He was killed before Cressida was born, but regardless he has been a constant presence of embarrassment and weakness for her.
Seriously, he hates him.
Born as Cressida Rayne, it was a long standing family tradition that it was always the maternal family name that was carried down, she added her grandfather’s name after leaving school. It’s a name that’s laughed at, and Cressida is determined to change that. By the time the was is won it’ll be a name that’s whispered in fear.
When it comes to her father, Cormac McLaggen Cressida sees him as an embarrassment as well. He was pursuing a career as a professional quidditch player when Cressida’s mother fell pregnant. They were both pretty young so he decided to get a more stable job at the ministry. He was killed by a muggle car when Cressida was ten - which in her mind is utterly ridiculous.
Cressida’s mother went to Durmstrang school, but met Cressida’s father during the Triwizard tournament. It was a brief fling that resulted in them staying in touch and getting together properly not long after they both left school.
When her father died Cressida’s maternal grandmother moved to Britain to help raise her. After Karkaroff went on the run her grandmother moved back to her home country St. Lucia. Honestly, she was glad to be rid of the dead weight.
It hasn’t been easy for Cressida to become a death eater. Her grandfather screwing a lot of them over, but she’s proven that she’s an asset. It helps having friends from her Hogwarts days as well.
Cressida’s natural ability to read people means she is very skilled in her chosen career. She does help the people who come to her, but also uses the information gained to help the death eaters. She has no problems manipulating her clients to suit her own needs.
Currently, Cressida is working at Hogwarts as well. Officially she’s there to help the students during these troubling times. Unofficially, she was brought in to help a certain headmaster.
Plot twist. Whilst Cressida does in fact see most men as weak and stupid (including those she considers friends) and whilst she very much appears to hate her father, she doesn’t. Any hate she shows is actually anger. Anger that he left her. He was the only man Cressida never viewed as weak.
Where: St. Mungos
Who: Lorcan and Luna @thirdwars
Hearing a noise from the hospital bed below Lorcan looked down to see his mum waking up, a small sigh of relief leaving his lips. Of course he knew she was simply sleeping, getting the rest she needed, but that knowledge was of little comfort. Only seeing her wake could quell some of the negative voices in his head. There were some things no amount of positivity could conquer, and hearing both your parents had been attacked was certainly one of them.
Whilst his mother slept Lorcan had need to distract himself, which is when he had recalled some muggle invention he’d seen before. Lorcan may have been adopted, but there was no doubt whose son he was. He shared so much with his parents. Lorcan’s gift for languages was something he shared with his father who helped teach Lorcan some of the languages he knew. With his mother it was astrology. Late nights spent under the stars with vegan hot chocolate and Lorcan listening to everything Luna taught him; his fascination keeping him from getting distracted - from the stars at least, his hot chocolate often went cold.
“I tried to recreate some constellations,” He spoke, climbing down from the chair he had been standing on. On the ceiling and walls were hundreds of glow in the dark stars. “They were easier to sneak in then one of our animal friends.”
Cassiopeia had taken to lounging on the counter in the silence preceding Lorcan’s entrance. Adam, by and large, was having to wait for a potion to finish brewing for the next few hours and was spending the time reading a book. When he heard the door open, it drew his gaze. Looking down at the images, he barely resists a smile, cocking his head as his eyes flicker over them.
As he listens, his brows draw together, taking a moment he slides the first image over to look at the next, “I’m not an expert,” he notes, adjusting to look towards the other without ever meeting his gaze. His hands fall to his sides as he nods, “I could certainly help. They tend to be cautious and suspicious by nature, but on some occasions I’ve managed to get relatively close to them. We’ll likely have to head towards muggle areas.” Perhaps it was in some way telling, that he knew those areas so well. He is fairly certain he wouldn’t have to worry with Lorcan, but he knew he might have to play it off carefully.
A large grin spread across Lorcan’s face as Adam spoke, it wasn’t the most enthusiastic yes in the world, but it was far from a no. Lorcan had actually been worried that the other would have said no. Sure Lorcan could have found someone else, but he preferred working with other people that were just as passionate as he was. Adam had never expressed such a passion to Lorcan, but why take in strays unless you were. That’s at least how Lorcan saw it - never the logic behind an action only the emotion.
“You sound like just the kind of expert I need. You have experience with them, you clearly know the area. Just the kind of knowledge I need. And, if you don’t mind, we already have the first two stars of my project.” Lorcan commented, gesturing to the photos on the counter. “That was a yes though...?” Lorcan confirmed, fidgeting from excitement. This is perhaps why he had been so successful in his career, it wasn’t a job to him. Lorcan just kept doing something he loved, and somehow kept making money from it.
where: florean fortescue’s ice cream parlour
who: flo & jimmy sprinkled with mundungus
Despite there being a place to live over the ice cream parlour the Fortescue-Wood family home was located elsewhere, which was understandable considering it was a family of six (including Granny Fortescue) and the flat only had one bedroom. Flo hadn’t even been out of school for a month before they moved in. It wasn’t that Flo wanted to be away from their family, they just wanted to fully commit to the shop, not that the independence that came with living alone hadn’t appealed to them.
One of the perks of living above the shop was that the moment the security charm Flo had placed on the store went off they were downstairs in seconds. They hadn’t been sure what to expect, but an aging man sampling the different ice cream flavours wasn’t it. Honestly, Flo was impressed they managing to break in at all. Deciding it may be best to hold off calling the authorities Flo managed to get a name off the old man and sent an owl with a short letter addressed too ‘Jimmy, the son of the man who has broken into my ice cream parlour.’ With nothing to do but wait Flo served themself some ice cream too, keeping an eye on the old man. “Tell me what you think of that flavour, I’m not sure about it yet and I don’t name them until I’m sure. I was playing around with twice the ice, like twice as nice. It’s got Ice Mice in it and it’s ice cream…no, maybe not.”
To say Jimmy and Mundungus Fletcher had an interesting relationship, would be an understanding. What had started as desperate idolization in childhood, had now grown in something that he could only describe as exasperation. It was tiring to have to go through the same motions time and time again. Pick up Mundungus when he’d pissed off an old customer, pick up Mundungus when he’d decided to drink himself half to death once again, find Mundungus in a corner of Knockturn Alley, resembling a pile of clothes and nothing more. Even at a young age, Jimmy had struggled with the concept that Mundungus was his parent, when the roles of parent and child had so often been reversed.
In truth, he just wished his parent would retire. He wished that he’d apologise to him.
So when he had received the owl from Flo Fortescue, he’d abandoned his computer ( he wasn’t asleep, of course he wasn’t ) and apparated to Diagon Alley, bristling exasperatedly. Jimmy entered the ice cream shop while simultaneously pulling down his hood. He was rather surprised to see the pair sitting side by side. “Really, Dung?” He kicked Mundungus’ foot, forcing him to look up. “Stealing from small businesses now? What’d you take this time, to make you think this was a good fucking idea?” Jimmy let his gaze travel to the Flo, then, his expression softening. “I’m sorry about him.” How often was he going to have to say that? “Did he do any damage?”
Flo busied herself with her ice cream, suddenly very focused on eating it as the son named Jimmy spoke to his father with the unfortunate nickname. They actually had to force down the snigger upon hearing the word ‘dung’. Flo had been rather entertained by a drunk ‘Dung’ as they waited, but could understand how he probably wasn’t the best father - Flo had actually been rather lucky in that department. They couldn’t help but wonder how times he had said sorry before on behalf of his father.
“Nothing a little magic won’t fix,” they answered honestly. “They set off the alarm so I caught him pretty quickly. Honestly, I’m pretty sure it was just the ice cream they wanted.” Flo wasn’t trying to excuse the behaviour, but breaking in because of an ice cream craving was better than any alternative... right? “Hope it’s alright that I contacted you, it was the only name he gave me. Did you want some ice cream? Only seems fair as he got some...” Flo decided not to add that as Mundungus has been eating from it as well that they’d have to get rid of it anyway for health and safety reasons.
❝ without ice cream, there would be darkness and chaos ❞
that’s FLO FORTESCUE-WOOD. they are a 25 year old HALF-BLOOD wix who is THE MANAGER AT FLOREAN FORTESCUE’S ICE CREAM PALOUR. they are known for being ARGUMENTATIVE, RECKLESS, OPINIONATED, IMPULSIVE, and STRONG-WILLED but also CREATIVE, GENUINE, OPEN-MINDED, ADVENTUROUS, and PASSIONATE, so that must be why they always remind me of the song WHERE WE COME ALIVE BY RUELLE and SCRAPS OF PAPER WITH NEW ICE CREAM FLAVOURS ON, FONT OF QUIDDITCH KNOWLEDGE, TOUSLED HAIR, RAIDING THRIFT STORES, IT’S A PUNDERFUL LIFE, FOOT IN MOUTH SYNDROME. i hear they are aligned with THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, so be sure to keep an eye on them.
Trigger Warnings: injury, head injury, murder, accident
Flo’s legal/birth name is Florence Olivia Fortescue-Wood, named after their maternal grandfather and father. They have been going by Flo for so long most people don’t realise it’s short for anything. One day they’ll get around to changing their name legally.
They tend to use they/their pronouns, but don’t have an preference and is happy for other to use they/their, she/her, her/him, ze/zir, etc. Flo is non-binary, more specifically androgynous/bi-gender/genderfluid.
It has often been said that Flo is the reincarnation of their grandfather, Florean Fortescue, and they do share a lot in common with her grandfather, however, it is also pretty obvious that Flo takes after their father a lot too.
Their grandfather’s death is part of the reason Flo joined the Order, who was killed simply because his knowledge of history could be a threat. They also joined to protect their family, specifically those who are muggles or muggleborn.
Flo has three siblings, and is the oldest of the four.
Hella Scottish and proud.
Was sorting in Gryffindor at Hogwarts. Just like their father they were on the Quidditch team, and was a Keeper. Struggled in most subjects. Aside from Quidditch their favourite subject was History of Magic.
Quidditch has always been their passion, and having already been approached by teams Flo signed a contract and decided not to go back to Hogwarts for their seventh year. Not that NEWTs was really a viable option for them. They were over the moon, but also found themselves getting increasingly anxious and stressed.
Unfortunately, Flo was caught in a freak storm whilst practicing alone. Knocked off their broom Flo was in the middle of nowhere with a broken wand and a head injury. They decided to apparate to St. Mungo’s where the mild concussion they had received caused them to splinch.
As a result of their injuries, and the recovery time needed their contract was nullified. This was a major blow to Flo at first, who felt they’d missed there big chance, before realising they actually felt relieved. They had been putting so much pressure on themselves to live up to their father’s legacy it was crushing them. It’s why Flo decided not to carry on pursuing a career as a professional quidditch player.
Flo has now fully recovered from their injuries, but has splinching scars on their shoulder/upper arm and ankle. Part of them regrets not seeing what they could have achieved as a Quidditch player, but Flo would never admit that.
With Quidditch off the table the ice cream parlour seemed like the next obvious career choice for Flo. They had always been just as passionate about the family business as they had for Quidditch. Their mother is still the owner, but Flo pretty much runs the shop now and even lives above it. It’s very likely the shop will be passed down to them.
Where: Adam’s Potion Shop
Who: Lorcan & Adam @adamgoddamnedstewart
Entering the shop Lorcan made a beeline for Adam at the counter. It may have surprised those who didn’t know the young Scamander that he didn’t get distracted by all the potions and ingredients - but anyone who knew him well knew Lorcan wouldn’t get distracted by something that didn’t interest him. That was the reason he came into the potion’s shop the first time, it was for the best others made them for him as Lorcan simply lacked the focus for potion making. The last time Lorcan had entered the shop though he had gotten distracted... by the cats who called the shop their home. A simply errand turned into an hour long impromptu photoshoot and play session.
It was these photos he placed on the counter in front of the other wizard. “I need your help,” Lorcan stated, not even bothering to reintroduce himself. The photos had given him an inspiration for a new photo series. The war had meant that Lorcan had been looking for more projects to keep him close to home. It wasn’t something that came natural to Lorcan who had always simply followed his urge to travel and pursued any ideas that came to mind. It’s perhaps why this had made him so excited. “You said your cats were strays, do you know more strays? I want to photograph them all. And not just cats. I want it to be a whole series on abandoned, and homeless animals. And you’ll be my expert... please.”
that’s LORCAN SCAMANDER, he is a 22 year old UNKNOWN BLOOD STATUS wizard who is A WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER. he is known for being IMPULSIVE, DISTRACABLE, DISORDERLY, FANCIFUL, and ABSENTMINDED but also EMPATHETIC, IDEALISTIC, INNOVATIVE, EBULLIENT, and ADVENTUROUS, so that must be why he always reminds me of the song SHINE BY EMELI SANDÉ and THE CONSTANT CLICK OF A CAMERA SHUTTER, HEAD IN THE CLOUDS, A NEW FAVOURITE ANIMAL EVERY WEEK, WANDERLUST, HUMAN FOOTPRINTS TURNING TO PAWPRINTS, AND MARCHING TO THE BEAT OF THEIR OWN DRUM. i hear he is aligned with THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, so be sure to keep an eye on him.
Trigger Warnings: child abandonment
Lorcan doesn’t know anything about his biological parents. His mother brought him to an orphanage, and whilst the social worker (or the wix equivalent) turned around to get some paperwork they left, leaving the little baby alone. His mother had knowledge of the magical world, and had reason to suspect Lorcan would be a wizard because he was left at a wiz orphanage.
Luna and Rolf adopted him when he was six, they found him sat by himself talking to a ladybird. He had very little understanding of what a family was, especially the human constructs of one. Lorcan wasn’t scared to go with them, or hate moving to a new home - partly because he didn’t understand the reasoning why. He had never really observed families before. Then one kid asked him about his mum and dad, and needed an explanation this kids gave Lorcan the simplified child’s version. Luna and Rolf fitted this explanation so from that day forth he called them mum and dad - after checking that they had this knowledge.
From a young age Lorcan showed a talent for learning languages and is multilingustic. He’s can speak bits and pieces from many languages but is fluent in; English, Japanese, Spanish, French, Russian, Mermish, Gobbledegook, and Giant. He’s close to being fluent in Hindu and Mandarin as well. Some was taught to him by he parents, some self-taught, an a lot of it he’s picked up is from his travels.
He was sorted into Hufflepuff at Hogwarts. The house did consider Ravenclaw because there was a curiousity, an eagerness to learn there, but that didn’t come from a thirst for knowledge, but a want to know more about the things he loved and cared about. His grades were rather mixed, mostly because he struggled to pay attention in most classes. Most of his teacher accused him of daydreaming too much. He did excel in Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, and Astronomy.
Unsurprisingly Lorcan loves animals, but not just magical creatures. He finds all creatures equally fascinating. He picked up his first camera when he was a child, and it just felt natural to take photos of all these wonderous animals he loved. Lorcan never had any ambitions of being a successful wildlife photographer. He just did what he loved, and mixed with his love to travel it just took off. As well as taking photos for magizoologists (like his parents), and for wix publications Lorcan has also had his work in a lot of muggle publications - one of photos even made the cover of the National Geographic.
When asked what he wanted for his eighteenth birthday Lorcan said he wanted to become an Animagus. Under the right guidance (either his parents if they were good at Transfiguration, or a family friend who either was one or good at Transfiguration) Lorcan successfully became one. He wanted to become one simply to immerse himself better in the animal kingdom he so loves. His Animagus form is a Japanese Dwarf Flying Squirrel.
Naturally Lorcan joined the Order. Whilst he considers himself a pacifist, he also recognises that some people cannot be reasoned with. Talking with some of the death eaters might help some of them, but even someone as idealistic as Lorcan knows that many are too steadfast in their beliefs. Lorcan wants to help protect his friends and family, and he believes that it’s important that pacifists like himself join in order to keep the peace where ever possible.
Lorcan is a vegan, he became a vegetarian as soon as he learned what meat is, and as he got older and learning even more he became a vegan. He isn’t always the strictest of vegans though, believing that if farmed properly things like honey are acceptable. He’s very environmentally conscious, and does everything he can to lower his carbon footprint. He thinks that the wix community should get more involved and help muggles cut down on waste etc.
