A series of short, sharp barks, a playful chase imagined. Woof woof woof! A happy bark, a contented sigh. Nudges your hand with its nose, seeking more attention. Yap! My wonderfull brain made up and au where Cale is in his og body and a butler to Alberu
I've name it Butler of the Royal family and have already written the first two chapters but it takes me ages to write so I will just share my ideas for now . Haven't poster the chapters to ao3 yet
This is inspired by that one part of the God of Despair tests . Where Cale is in the body of some random guy and acts as a butler for small Alberu who is in a bad position as a teen. You know - the one where he turns the palace on its head so he can give Alberu a decent meal and wreaks havoc as usual. Calls him "Your Royal highness" , changes the furniture to better ones in the palace and then almost gets killed by the king . I love it a lot it's super cute and makes me soooft
This but it's the reality
So basically Kim Rock Soo is punted into the Forest of death Choi family style and is a transmigrator not a reincarnator (idk if that's what they're called) so he's not in Cales body and the deal with GoD hasn't happened
The thing is - he's away too early than the setting of The birth of a Hero . Alberu and Cale are only teens and Harris village is still standing
Here's where I take many liberations with the accurate ages and such - mainly I ignore them and just change them so they can fit my silly scenarios
When Rock Soo realises he's earlier than the events in The Birth of a Hero he decides to go make a deal with that glib crown prince . He's trying to scam him to get money for slacker life or smth . But then he sees the sorry state that is Alberus palace and how they mistreat him. And basically hires himself as the head butler to fix things because of course he would. The rationalisation in his mind is that he needs the crown prince in power to ensure that Roan will be ready for the future wars and he can live his slacker life without worrying about that
In the end he takes the reins as commander in the war and is a hero like in canon as is expected of our clown mc

I'm mostly thinking about how different Alberu will grow up with Rock Soo as his butler . He has someone he can actually depend on now!!
Kim Rock Soo relationship with everyone will be different which is the fun part for me
He's a dad of one crown prince (even if he won't admit it) and baby Raon .
Raon!! He's still an egg in this but don't worry Rock Soo won't ever forget his dragon son so he goes to steal- I mean rescue Raon and a few other valuable things he finds in that cave. So Raon hatches from his egg into Rock Soos warm hands and is coddled and loved as he should be. Only the best thing for the dragon baby
And!! Rock Soo is about the same age as Ron in this cuz I said so - around 36 I think. And so! They're best friends. Of course Rock Soo is terrified but still
Ron finds him funny and decides to keep him around just cuz
Haven't thought everything out but yeah

I was gonna post this as a reply for this post by @he4d-banger but it got too long so I’m making it a separate post.
I have talked about this before but I’ll talk again because I love talking about Cale’s complex emotional state.
More than pushing them away, Cale completely ignored his grief which has made him completely emotional constipated. This has lead to many side affects which get glossed over most of the time since we read the novel from Cale’s pov.
Some that I can remember from the top of my head right now are: dissociation, selective memory, depression, anxiety, stress and tons of physical problems like eating disorder, etc. which I’ll get into more another time. His self destructive tendencies based on the decisions he makes are all because of his emotional constipation.
Cale’s denial over his own symptoms has become chronic over the years even tho it’s fairly visible from other peoples perspective. Some instances I can remember where we see Cale’s condition from other peoples pov are: moments when Alberu tells him he’ll definitely get his slacker life, everyone’s reaction to him smiling after crying, Choi Han meeting younger Cale, the villains’ reaction when Cale gets angry, everyone telling him he’s too weak and skinny, Ron and Choi Han’s pov during side story 7 after Cale dreamed about CJS and LSH first death anniversary, etc. Everyone can recognize that he’s not well.
And about the venting on destroying stuff, that’s exactly correct. Many times when we see the fight from the other pov of the villain, most of the dialogue is about how angry and terrifying Cale looks. Of course part of that could be due to the effect of Dominating Aura, but they specifically mention Cale’s expression and the look in his eyes a lot. That’s what truly terrifies them. Cale doesn’t recognize this but he’s really expressive, everyone says that he’s very expressive and lets his emotions slip through his face.
Another case when he couldn’t control his emotions anymore was when he cried. An interesting fact is that people who aren’t used to crying and/or hold themselves back from crying, once they do actually cry they can’t stop the flow of tears and are motionless and/or rather calm and quiet. It’s that silent unstoppable crying that Cale displayed. His grief finally exploded after meeting LSH and he couldn’t understand the sadness he was feeling at that moment because the meeting ended with consolidation and relief. All the pain over the deaths of his best friends finally released.
That is a complete contrast to his reaction in side story 7 after the first anniversary of his team’s death. When he arrived home he just collapsed on the floor expressionless. Not once did he cry. But the way he collapsed at that moment said a lot about his state at the time. All the stress accumulated in his body from holding back his emotions all day today affected his physical health to total exhaustion
Actually in my opinion SS7 is one of the best chapters about examining Cale’s emotional state. There are multiple visible of him suppressing his emotions like: keeping a neutral expression all day around, refusing to mention what day it was tomorrow even though everyone knew, not closing his eyes in front of the grave because the memories would resurface, the small panic attack shown by his shortage of breath, background silence and feeling of heaviness, and you can see how burned out emotionally and physically he feels. The only way he wouldn’t feel these things was by working, as it is noted multiple times throughout the story that he never took days off.
And my favorite moment was when we see Cale waking up from the dream and very clearly experiencing signs of ptsd and a panic attack. He was feeling cold despite the entire house being heated with magic, cold sweat running down his face, shortage of breath as soon as he woke up and a distressed expression as shown from Ron and Choi Han’s pov He also felt the need to hear noises and pet the kids to make him feel a sense of attachment with reality since the silence in his memories made him feel suffocated. Tho Cale himself couldn’t recognize these symptoms.
That side story also shows how he has grown emotionally throughout the novel now becoming more emotionally open with others.
I can also go on about his selective memory, anxiety, get more into his self destructive lifestyle and about his obvious signs of depression during his team leader days and early part of the novel while touching on his childhood trauma, but this post is already long enough so I’ll leave those for another day.

And the first time he dies, it's in the middle of the battle field, bleeding out with Raon sobbing against him. The night sky is as beautiful as the first one Cale showed Raon. His paws gentle as he wracks his brain for any spell that could save his human.
They both know its too late.
Cale is getting colder and colder, and it's getting harder to keep his eyes open, but Raon's heat against him is so soothing.
"human! You can't die!" The little dragon sobs, his eyes glistening like the stars in the sky above them.
Cale feels oddly at peace. Their group had dispersed to handle their individual roles in this fight, leaving only him and Raon in the rear. Before he or Raon could even react, numerous spikes shot up through the ground where he stood. They disappear as quickly as they came, leaving him staggering with blood gushing from his mouth. Raon had helped him down to the ground instead of collapsing.
Cale opens his mouth to offer any kind of reassurance to the dragon, but the devastation that danced in those azure eyes stopped him. They both knew what was coming and there was nothing they could do to stop it.
"come find me next time, Raon"
His voice comes out as a whisper as his lungs strain to take in air, his breathing laboured and wet. He's sure that there must be some sort of puncture in his lungs with the way it's getting harder to breathe with every passing second.
Raon shakes his head in denial, unwilling to believe that only one of them would make it back to their home to greet the others.
"raon miru.. promise you'll find me?" He wheezed painfully, "think.. 'll be.... L'nly.."
"no no no... Human... Cale, you'll be fine, smart Rosalyn and Goldie gramps will come find us soon," Raon's words come out desperate and hurried, "I called them over... They'll know what to do!!"
It's getting hard for Cale to see clearly now, his little dragon becoming a blurry blob with blue eyes. They won't make it in time.
"..please?" Cale whimpers, weakly reaching up to place his trembling hand on Raon's head.
Something seems to click in the little dragon's mind as hot tears continued to stream down his face.
"Promise. I'll find you, Cale Henituse," Raon's voice is small, smaller than Cale has ever heard, "I'll find you.. like how you found me... I swear."
With those words, Cale feels like the invisible weight on his chest lighten and he closes his eyes with a smile
"b' goo'.. ohn, h'ng too.." his words come out slurred against his heavy tongue, "luh you."
Raon's haunting cries echo around the battleground, ringing out around the clashing of metal and thudding of boots against the dirt.

The first time Raon finds his human again, he's grown to be a few meters long, definitely too big for his weak human to hold now.
(Raon aches to be held in those safe arms again. He wishes that he could be small again with his human's arms wrapped securely around him. If he were in Cale's hold, he would always be safe).
A familiar wave length invades his senses and his wings flutter in excitement. There's no way that this wasn't his human.
Raon changes to his human form with a jump, easily landing on two legs, and then breaking into a sprint towards where he sensed his human.
A small child with blond hair sits at the base of a willow tree, his small hands plucking at the grass as he waits. Familiar reddish brown eyes snap up to meet Raon's unblinking gaze, genuine happiness dancing in them like how the sunspots danced on the ground of the forest. Raon's face is damp with tears as a sob tears it's way out of his throat.
"my dragon's such a crybaby, huh?" The unfamiliar childish voice reaches the dragon's ears.
Raon's feet move on their own, bringing him in front of the boy before his knees began to wobble. His now little human opens his arms in a quiet invitation for comfort as tears begin to cling to his own lashline.
His human is so small now... So, so achingly small. Their places seemed to have reversed. It had once been Raon who snuggled into the warmth of bigger arms. Now, he's bigger and stronger than his human. Raon hopes that he can provide the boy with the same comfort and safety that he had received as a child.
His little human buries his face into Raon's neck and he distantly remembers how he used to do the same thing to Cale. Tiny fingers clutch at his sleeves as the boy shakes with muffled cries.
He found him like he promised.
"I missed you so much."
