~ HHH SOB... The young Madrigal Triplets again, " Gift " pressure and siblings support... ( Ft. Young Alma )
~ WHAT ABOUT… Flashback of them as young adults, Félix being all in love with Pepa when he sees her walking through Encanto…
~ SO TONIGHT Have the English translation of the French lyrics in “ We don’t talk about Bruno “ ( Encanto ) because I always find so interesting to note the slight differences of the storytelling in different langages and thought that you might be interested as well ;3 ♥ ( I’ve put bold on the main noticeable differences )
Under the cut : “ We don’t talk about Bruno “ Translation of the French Lyrics !
~ HMM So yes since I noticed the little thunderlights patterns on Pepa’s closeups, I can’t stop thinking that Mirabel embroidered them for her Tía…
~ Why Pepa Madrigal is, imo, a wonderful representation for women/mothers, a thread : I think that Disney made a great job with Pepa in Encanto for the representation of a fleshed out “ Mother “ character. Usually, Disney have mothers to somehow “ serve “ their children on screen but are never truly depicted as a character on their own. For example, on most Disneys, the mother is either just a character here to support their child / the hero ( Comforting discourse, hugs, emotional support entierely directed to the main character... ) either presented to be a problematic figure that leads the hero to some personal issues, either straight up dead to serve the hero’s backstory. But with Pepa, we’re on a whole different level.
She’s a FULL, mature character. Not only 50yo women are finally represented in a positive way, but also, their own character is recognized IN AND OUT their motherhood. Pepa have her own life struggles, her own fleshed out personality, we see her LIVE and EVOLVE, around AND far from her children, and that’s fantastic. As a 30yo “ Mother “ of a 3yo child, I can’t express how GOOD it feels to feel represented on screen, and not only for our unconditional love and support for our children, but also for being a whole person on our own, with our personal struggles, our disabilities, and most of all : The fact that having a LIFE ON OUR OWN doesn’t impact the fact that we’re loving, careful, devoted parents to our children. Movies in general lack of this depth for “ parents “ characters, and Pepa made it a kind of incredible revolution for me. I’m a disabled non-binary Mom ( Chronic illness + Autistic with ADHD ) of a disabled child ( Autistic as well ) and just like Pepa, my own anxiety/sensory/emotional struggles don’t impact my love for my child. I have moments with him, and moments without him, just like Pepa with her children in the movie. I’m here for my child, I’m spending most of my days supporting him, loving him, comforting him, but at the top of it all, I’m a whole person on my own, out of my motherhood, and that’s SO GOOD to see that on screen.
Bless you Disney for that. I love Pepa for so many reasons and that’s one of them. ♥
~ WHAT ABOUT... Flashback of them as young adults, Félix being all in love with Pepa when he sees her walking through Encanto...
~ ANNND Just Mirabel experiencing Tales VS Reality about Tío Bruno... For real, Bruno only feasts with Julieta’s arepa
~ HMM So yes since I noticed the little thunderlights patterns on Pepa’s closeups, I can’t stop thinking that Mirabel embroidered them for her Tía...
~ YES SO... Tía Pepa being an emotional Tía with baby Mirabel
~ OK BUT I live for the idea of the 50yo triplets being playful as they’re back together. No, Pepa isn’t really upset, just playing in her own way :’3
~ After dinner scene in Encanto ; I don’t know if anyone ever mentionned this before on here, but one of my absolute favourite details in the movie comes after the dinner scene, when we can feel that Pepa is so overwhelmed by her emotions that the thunderstorm keeps going on INSIDE the house, even in the scenes where she’s not on screen anymore. Think about how Mirabel is just running after Bruno inside the walls, and the whole scene is getting even more dramatic and theatrical by the sounds and lights of the storm ( When Bruno’s face gets enlightened dramatically for example ) impacting the whole ambience of the moment. That’s just, such an amazing moment I can’t get over it. We just can feel Pepa everywhere in this scene.
~ LET IT RAIN ! I do believe that the young triplets used to support each other when they were struggling with their gifts… But Alma eventually lead them to repress their feelings and add more and more pressure on their shoulders with years passing.
~ THEM. They deserve more screen time together.
Also, I do believe that Dolores has always been dealing with some sensory problems around Pepa when she’s thundering, but I also feel like she’d associate her mother to the sound of the rain since she’s a baby, and it somehow still soothe her like a good stim when she’s overwhelmed. ♥
~ Love you Pepa and extreme weather ♥ Yes I wanted to draw happy Pepa, she deserves the world
~ HHHHHH Yes so. It’s easier to hide behind anger to not let true feelings flooding, especially when you have emotions and communication issues... And Pepa didn’t allow herself to think about Bruno much, the grief was too intense and a possible threat for the village weather-talking. Love you Pepa ( + Julieta being a comforting angel as often )
~ OK HUM I couldn’t help but drawing a Comic of the Triplet babies...
Headcanon, For me, when she was young, Pepa wasn’t a crybaby at all, but had to try to mask and control her intense emotions to please their mother and not put the village in a dangerous weather either. She always had issues managing her emotions, communication issues as well, and when Bruno left, she unconsciously chose to hide under anger to not flood the city with tears and grief for her missing triplet.
