@call-your-representatives
can’t reach your rep? bother their staff.
i’ve been seeing lots of reports that people can’t contact their republican representatives because the fuckers just aren’t picking up the phone anymore. and we all know how easily emails can be ignored. so:
OPTION ONE: FAXES
faxzero.com wants you to fax your rep. click the link, select your rep, and their fax number is autofilled. just type your message into the cover page document and hit send, no attachments required. you can send five free faxes per day, and the site tracks how many faxes each rep is sent. watch pat toomey get fucking destroyed in real time. kill some trees, save some liberties.
OPTION TWO: EMAIL STAFF DIRECTLY
this one is like….. we’re gonna be aggravating some people who are just doing their jobs, here. it’s not the nicest thing in the world. we’re gonna do it anyways.
all senators’ press secretary/comms director contacts are listed here, to start
STEP ONE: go to insidegov and search your representative’s staff list
STEP TWO: select a staffer. any staffer you like. chief of staff on down to a staff assistant. whoever you feel is most deserving of your ire. you can see who’s getting paid the most, if you want.
STEP THREE: email them.
HOUSE EMAIL FORMAT: [staff first name].[staff last name]@mail.house.gov
i.e. [email protected] - Paul Ryan’s Chief of Staff
note that hyphens are kept in last names but not apostrophes
you can verify that an address is real and messages won’t bounce back using this site
SENATE EMAIL FORMAT: [staff first name]_[staff last name]@[senator’s last name].senate.gov
i.e. [email protected] - Pat Toomey’s Chief of Staff
some senate addresses (maybe the more recently hired folks?) use a period instead of a hyphen, like the house. always verify with verify-email.org or a similar site.
CAVEAT THAT I HAVEN’T TRIED THIS EN MASSE, ONLY FOR MY OWN REPS. I’M SORRY IF THIS DOESN’T WORK FOR YOUR OFFICE, IDEALLY OUR HOUSES OF CONGRESS WOULD BE TECH SAVVY ENOUGH TO STANDARDIZE ALL EMAIL ADDRESS, BUT, WELL.
also, don’t copy everyone on one email. BCC if you really have to save time. most staffers won’t even open an email from a stranger with more than like three people in the CC line, since so often those come from people who are talking about CIA-assisted alien abductions. keep it short and sweet, just like you would on the phone.
Speak out against the Muslim Ban
If you have already called your representatives about Trump’s executive order banning people from 7 predominately Muslim countries from entering the US (with exceptions for Christians, of course), here’s some additional comment lines to try. I haven’t called these numbers myself yet, but they seem like a good starting point:
DOJ comment line (comments may be directed to the new pro-ban Acting Attorney General, Dana Boente, who replaced Sara Yates after she was fired for “betraying” the DOJ by refusing to defend the ban): 202-353-1555

DOJ Office of Communications and Legislative Affairs (contact point for the Executive Office for Immigration Review): 703-305-0289

TSA Customer Service Contact Center: 866-289-9673
List of US Politicians and their responses (or lack thereof) on the Muslim Ban
List of upcoming town hall meetings!

Sen. Toomey in particular has expressed reluctance to repeal the ACA without having a replacement plan.
ADDITIONAL ISSUES:
#NODAPL The Dakota Access Pipeline will cross the Missouri River less than a mile away from the Standing Rock Reservation. When the pipeline leaks (that’s when, not if – there have already been three pipeline leaks in 2017) it will endanger drinking water and pollute native lands. Protests to stop the pipeline have been met with police brutality including attack dogs and water cannons. Call the Army Corps of Engineers civil works department and tell them to stand up to Donald Trump and not reverse their decision to stop the pipeline.

WTF, DONALD TRUMP? Donald Trump lives in a fantasy world where millions of people voted against him illegally in an election that he won. He thinks the solution to immigration is to build a wall that the American people do not want. Call Rep. Dwight Evans to ask him to do what he can to curb Donald Trump’s nutty investigation into voter fraud that doesn’t exist and stop Trump from building that #fuckingwall.
Rep. Dwight Evans: 202 225 4001 (DC)/215 276 0340 (Philly)
EXPAND VOTING ACCESS The state house and senate have introduced bills to provide for early voting and automatic voter registration in PA. Call to show your support for improved voting access in Pennsylvania!
State Rep. James Roebuck: 215 724 2227 (Philly) / 717 783 1000 (Harrisburg)
State Sen. Anthony Williams: 215 492 2980 (Philly) / 717 787 5970 (Harrisburg)
SHAME REPUBLICANS FOR KILLING PA JOBS PA Sen. Scott Wagner led the charge to cancel a senate vote that would have extended funding for unemployment call centers in PA. His actions led to the loss of 500+ jobs in the week before Christmas. Now legislation has been introduced to refund the unemployment call centers. Shame him into supporting PA jobs this time.
Scott Wagner (R-York County): 717 787 3817

This tumblr, but better!
Hey there!
Are you an American? Do you have a sec to stand up for the millions of poor people, disabled people, people with pre-existing conditions and freelancers who rely on the ACA to keep them, y’know, not-broke and not-dead? (Hi!)
Do you live in Alaska, Arizona, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee or West Virginia?
Congrats: you have a Republican Senator who has publicly expressed some concern about repealing the ACA without a replacement plan! If you haven’t already, this is your reminder to give their offices a call and help them make up their minds!

Sample call script: “My name is [YOUR NAME]. I’m a constituent calling to thank [YOUR SENATOR’S NAME] for having the integrity and foresight to see how disastrous it would be to [YOUR STATE] and to the rest of America if Congress votes to repeal the ACA without first agreeing on a solid replacement plan. Not only would it jeopardize the health and economic security of millions of Americans, it would also place a tremendous financial strain on our hospitals and our entire healthcare system, costing potentially hundreds of thousands of jobs. As you know, in [YOUR STATE], we [SOMETHING PERSONAL ABOUT HEALTH CONCERNS SPECIFIC TO YOUR STATE; YOU MIGHT WANNA DO A 30-SECOND GOOGLE. IF NOTHING ELSE SURFACES, JUST SAY YOUR STATE BELIEVES IN SOME POSITIVE CHARACTER TRAIT THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH KEEPING HEALTHCARE AFFORDABLE FOR AMERICANS, LIKE “LOOKING OUT FOR YOUR NEIGHBOR” OR SOMETHING.] As a voter, this is a vital issue to me, and I will be paying close attention to how [SENATOR’S NAME] votes.”
Call today if you haven’t already, and bug your local friends/family to call, too!
We only need to flip three senators, so it’s not impossible. Do this before this Friday, the 27th.
I’m sorry to ask this of you–I know there’s a lot of these things going around right now–but I depend on the ACA for my healthcare and I’m pretty damn terrified.
There are so many things. So many! But the ACA keeps people alive in a very real way and it is way more popular than Trump, so it’d mean a lot to this healthcare-less funemployed poet if you called your senator.
This weekend I’m facing my fears in my blue state and calling my reps for the like-maybe-fourth-time-ever. I’m with you in spirit, my loves.
Construction of Dakota Access Pipeline was halted until an environmental review could be conducted. Stand with Standing Rock and submit your public comment now.
Dr. Adrienne Keene @NativeApprops:
The DAPL Environmental Impact Study (EIS) has been listed in the Federal Register, which means it is open for comments. That’s an immediate action for right now…
The @SierraClub has a form on their site for submitting comments on the DAPL EIS. Do it! [link above]. They note that customizing your comment has more impact. So use the script but edit to include your personal concerns as well. Here’s another one: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/submit-your-eis-comment-to-the-army-corps?delivery_id=11945029 … and info on how to submit your own comment at link and in pic below. #NoDAPL

These guys wrote speeches for Obama and stuff. They just launched a new media thing; already some good resources here.
Key Votes & Decisions to Track: This page is crowd-sourced by the progressive community.
This resource is a little sparse right now, but the plan to crowd-source a database of national, state and local issues + organizations is a great one! The people organizing this project worked on the Obama campaign and know what they’re about.
Former congressional staffers reveal best practices for making Congress listen.

RIGHT NOW! GET HEARD FOR REAL!
Right now (December 18th, 2016, ~3:00pm) there are live human beings answering the phone at the North Carolina GOP comment line! North Carolina has recently rushed through a series of bills aimed at gutting the power of the incoming democratic governor. This is a garbage tactic and ignores the will of the voters. More info at ACLUNY.
The folks answering the phones are very nice and they aren’t asking for zip codes (so call away from out of state). They’re typing out concerns to send along. Call this number: 919-828-6423

As CEO of OneWest Mnuchin became infamous for aggressively foreclosing on tens of thousands of homes. Many of these foreclosures were later found to be fraudulent, leading to multi-million dollar lawsuits.
