Black Hair Representation in Kids Media Discussion/Opinions?

Hello! Im an illustrator for a company that makes children's books with customizable characters. I’ve heard for years from friends/people online how frustrating it is that there aren't enough hair options for people in the BIPOC community when it comes to media representation. I want to make sure all kids can see themselves in these illustrations and would love to provide choices that are stylish and familiar.

So the floor is yours - What kind of hair styles (or hair covering styes) have you always wanted to see in character builders? The age demographic for the book is 6-9, so it would be cool to hear how you guys styled your hair at that age, or how you’re styling your kid’s hair now. I really want to make sure that every child can enjoy making a character that looks like them and they connect with, so please if you can think of anything feel free to comment or leave a link. Sometimes it’s not a bad thing, just surprising. Like, “Today the child did alchemy without a transmutation circle,” and everyone is like, “Huh, I didn’t know he could do that.”

The creepiest days are when you don’t hear from the child at all. Those are the days when everyone is like “I think the child has finally calmed down,” and then the child is like “I just uncovered a government conspiracy.
