Today, a special post on Clothilde Missal, Walters Art Museum W.934, which curator Dot Porter got to see in person recently. Written and illustrated by Clothild Coulaux in Alsace, France, and finished in 1906, this Roman missal is full of medieval and contemporary inspiration. Why is Dot wearing gloves? Because every page of the book was coated in white lead as part of the parchment preparation. One of the only times you'll see someone wearing gloves while handling rare books.

The CHIVALRY graphic novel ships in March, a few weeks earlier than I anticipated. Adapted from the short story by Neil Gaiman, it is my very favorite of all his stories, and I am deliriously happy to have been chosen for this project.
It is lovely story about a little old lady who finds the Holy Grail under a fur coat in a charity shop.
Suitable for all ages, it is as warm and comforting as a cup of tea. Which is something we all need right now.
It is a tale of high adventure…
But the heart of the story is in its quiet and personal moments.
The art is rendered in watercolor, colored ink, 18K gold and 24K shell gold. The illuminated manuscript lettering is by hand by me as well.
Other lettering by Todd Klein. Published by Dark Horse Comics.
You can preorder at major online retailers HERE, but you can also order from your local bookstore or comic shop. All major outlets will carry it. Preorders are essential because reprints will take awhile due to supply chain disruptions, and when SNOW, GLASS, APPLES had to go back to press (we’re going on 6 printings now) some people had to wait months between printings to get their copies.
Thank you so much for your kind consideration. Have a wonderful holiday season.

took a class on traditional scrollwork and acanthus leaves this weekend with Skyler Chubak (@letter.queen on IG) through Acorn Arts! I’ve dabbled in this style of ornamentation in the past, but it was super fun learning the logic/anatomy of it all. Definitely had a blast and had my ass kicked all at the same time 🙌🏼
