Wiley and I decided to make the worst Steven Universe Mary-Sue ever. It all started because of this Tumblr bot post. We started joking about how an OC named Edgelord would look and we concluded it’s be the most edgey Mary-Sue possible. We then decided to draw her. The first image is Wiley’s sketch, and the second image is my base edit that I shoved a bunch of clipart gems on (since my tablet is pretty much broken and this wasn’t worth the effort to actually draw on paper). I then made a profile based on everything we made up about her. I don’t watch Steven Universe, so I sorta had to wing it on the profile since I barely know anything about the characters besides the discourse that always pops up on my dash. I wrote it just like how my 13-year-old self would have so that it’s extra bad! ~Julie
Name: Edgelord (Real name is unknown. She doesn’t even know it.)
Age: Unknown
Gem: All the gems!
Height: Any height because she is able to shape shift.
Sexuality: Pansexual, but she likes non-binary people more than others. She is also more attracted to more feminine non-binary people.
Weapon: Machine gun that shoots rainbows!:3
Powers: Shape shifting, projecting holograms, summoning weapons, controlling objects, reading minds, flying, super strength, and a bunch of other stuff she hasn’t discovered yet.
Appearance: Pale white skin underneath all the gems. You can only tell because her left foot and right thumb are the only spots without gems. Black hair that is long in the front and covers her eye, and is short in the back with spikes that are the colors of every gem she is fused with. Her eye is covered because that eye is a gem, so she can’t see out of it anyway.:/
Clothes: She can’t wear clothes because she has so many gems on her.:P
Personality: Emo, Angry, Random, Hyper, Crazy, Weird, Kind (Only to Steven, Garnet, and Amethyst.)
Friends: Steven, Garnet, Amethyst
Enemies: Pearl, Jasper
Info: When all the gems in the universe combine, then Edgelord appears. She is called Edgelord because she has the problems of all the gems combined and they are constantly arguing inside her head. So because of this she is really emo but also really random!XD She also talks to herself a lot because the voices make her crazy.:P
Past: She only existed once in the past way back when all the gems got along and all fused together. Then in the present Steven accidentally summoned her from the past. Steven was really excited and asked what her name was, but she got amnesia from the time travel and couldn’t remember. So she started talking to herself and crying. So Steven helped her by giving her paper and pencils to draw with, and she started drawing blood and gore because it expressed her emotions best. Then Amethyst walked in, saw Edgelord drawing disturbing stuff, and said, “Woah! Who is the edgelord in our living room!?” Then the nickname just stuck after that. They had no way to get her back, so she stayed in the future. She can’t unfuse because all the gems she is made of are either dead or in the future. So since the dead gems can’t come back and the ones in the future can’t have duplicates, she has to stay the way she is. Pearl doesn’t like her and wants her to go back to the past. Pearl told Edgelord this and bullied her, so Edgelord started crying. Then Garnet came in and told Pearl to stop and comforted Edgelord. After that, she became friends with Garnet. The reason she doesn’t like Jasper is because Jasper says mean things to her in her head and tells her to kill herself. Everyone that is human is really scared and runs screaming from her and that makes her super depressed and insecure so she mostly stays inside at Steven’s house.
I didn’t want to ever look at these ones again, but I’m doing it for you guys! These two were anime versions of me and my ex-boyfriend from high school. Their names were Nami and Masa. Nami had purple hair because purple was my favorite color at the time, wolf ears, and a wolf tail. Masa had green hair which was my ex’s favorite color, pointed ears because he liked Spock, and as I recall he could grow angel wings. Also, Nami wore a collar and Masa would often walk her with a leash. It wasn’t in a kinky way. It was just because I really wanted to be a wolf (though that makes literally no sense since wolves aren’t walked on leashes usually). I can only hope my ex doesn’t somehow track me down through this. ~Julie
This is GWAWD. Her name stood for GirlWithAWolfDemon, which is my DeviantArt account. (You can go ahead and look it up if you want. The majority of the account is a walk through Mary-Sue Trash Town.) I originally made her because I saw other people on DA create personas based on their profile names. My persona was going to be a girl with a wolf tale and ears, a blindfold, and black wings. She was both an angel and a demon and traveled to multiple fictional worlds to help my favorite characters with their problems (usually drastically changing the storylines). I actually first created her on a dress up game (that I miss because it was really good for designing characters), but I have since lost that image. This terrible image though, I found in my old middle school art folder. ~Julie
Not really OCs. More like personas.
So the story behind this was that my sister and I had just gotten into Harry Potter the year before and we found a bunch of songs on YouTube. We got the idea to write hour own (mostly parodies of other songs) and I was super hyped up about it. I wrote up the first song (which my old computer consumed and sent into the void) and it had to do with Lily and Petunia singing a duet about how they feel about each other. This gave me the initial band name idea of “The Evans Sisters” and me and my sister would take up the stage names of Rose and Lavender Evans based on our favorite flowers. I loved the idea and since I had just learned how to used Photoshop, I threw some album designs together. However, when I showed my sister she immediately laughed at the idea and said something along the lines of “You didn’t think this was actually going to be a thing, did you!?” I was crushed and stored these images away for years. I only recently found them while cleaning up my flash drive. I’m kinda glad it didn’t happen because these persona’s are pretty much Mary-Sues. ~ Julie

Heck yeah!:) ~ Julie
10 things to watch out for when creating a Harry Potter OC...
Hey! Sorry about not posting anything in a while. College started back up for me. Anyway, I just thought I’d give some tips out occasionally for creating OCs for certain fandoms. Right now, this is just my own opinions but in the future a lot of these tips will have to do with one or both of our opinions and personal experiences (though usually I will be the one typing and posting them because I’m on the blog more often), so don’t worry if you already have an OC with one or more of these traits. Sometimes certain traits work out for some characters and not others. And, of course, a lot of these traits usually don’t apply to AUs. ~ Julie
1. Having a relation to Harry Potter. This is something that can take a lot of time and effort to make at least slightly plausible. I would know, I have an OC who is Harry Potter’s fraternal twin sister. Usually people are quick to attack and OC with any relation to Harry Potter. I personally believe that if you put in enough time and effort to make it work, then have at it! If you aren’t willing to put that much effort into an OC of this kind, then avoid it.
2. Having a relation to any other canon character. Once again, this is another thing that can take a lot of effort to make plausible. The difficultly can vary though, depending on the character. If you added another older brother on to the Weasley family, that could possibly work. Making an OC who is the daughter of Snape; much harder to do. I have an OC who is the daughter of Snape, and it leaves a lot of unanswered questions in her back story. I’ve managed to work with it so far, but I personally would not recommend it.
3. Having more than one Hogwarts house or switching houses. Just don’t do it. I’m sorry to be so blunt about it, but it’s not something that is even close to canon. If you’re really torn between two houses, then you could specify that your OC was a Hatstall. You would still have to pick either one house or the other though. Another way to get around this is to kinda split your OC into two OCs. They can be twins that are placed in different houses. It’s not a great solution, but it’s something that happens in canon.
4. Making your OC a main part of a main canon group. It’s okay to have your OC pop in to hang out with one or more of the main canon characters every once in a while, but it’s best not to make them a main part of the canon group’s adventures. If they get involved with Dumbledore’s Army, that’s fine as quite a few canon characters were involved and it wasn’t really an exclusive group. If they are a Death Eater, that is also fine in my opinion. If they’re a member of the Order of the Phoenix, that would take some work to make plausible. If they’re part of Harry’s friend group or replaces one of them in some way, I strongly advise that you just don’t do it.
5. Having your OC fall in love with a main canon character. This can work for some, such as Draco, Neville, Fred, George, or Luna. However, having your OC fall in love with Harry, Ron, or Hermione would mess with canon too much. I guess you could attempt it, but they shouldn’t stay together in the end or else you’ve just messed up what happens with the canon love interests. So I really advise against this.
6. Having a student and teacher relationship. It’s okay for your Hogwarts student OC to have a little crush on a teacher, but don’t attempt to make a relationship out of it! This especially goes for Snape! No right-minded professor would date their underage student!
7. Making your OC fall in love with Voldemort. I’m pretty darn sure it’s canon that Voldemort can’t love. That’s really my only opinion on this. Voldemort would not and could not fall in love with your OC.
8. Being the best at nearly everything they try. If a spell is hard to learn in canon, then don’t say that your OC mastered it almost instantly. It’s okay for your OC to be smart, but they shouldn’t be good at everything.
9. Super edgy names. Though unusual names are canon in Harry Potter, that doesn’t mean you can name your OC something like Midnight Darkness or Ophelia Bloodrain. Be realistic! Use a random name generator if you have to! It’s alright to give your OC a name with a bit of a dark meaning behind it, but don’t go overboard!
10. Having any pet other than the canon approved ones. Canon pets are owls, cats, toads, or rats. Don’t have your OC bring a dog, hamster, bunny, wolf, etc. At the very least, if your OC brings something other than one of the canon approved pets, then don’t have other characters just shrug it off. I have an OC who has a pet spider. This gets her into quite a bit of trouble at one point. Remember, if you’re not willing to put in the effort to make it seem plausible, then just don’t do it.
Once again, these are just based on my opinions and experiences. If you have anything to add, want to argue against something, or have a question then go ahead and send us a message! We are also willing to critique your OCs if you're worried that they may be a Mary-Sue. ~ Julie
Whelp. I just dug up my old Simpsons OC. I first made her back in middle school and then remade her in high school. I actually recently debated remaking her again, but I’m kinda not sure if I should due to the massive amount of self-insertion I would have to fix. Once again, the profile was destroyed after the death of my computer, so what I can remember of each version is written below. ~ Julie
Middle School Version
Stephanie Burns was the daughter of Mr. Burns. She was supposed to be an exact clone of him, but the cloning facility messed up and instead of getting a son, he got a daughter. He didn’t want her, so he just left her at the cloning facility. However, Smithers felt bad that Stephanie would have to grow up without knowing her father, so every year on her birthday he would send her a photo of Mr. Burns. Smithers always addresses each photo as being from Mr. Burns himself so that Stephanie would feel like her father actually wanted her.
Stephanie was very sickly and weak though, and at the age of 13 she caught a very bad cold and she overheard the doctors say that she only had 3 days to live. Stephanie didn’t want to die without meeting her father at least once, so she planned her escape from the Cloning Facility. She armed herself with a scalpel she stole from one of the nurse’s carts, cut up her hospital gown into a crop-top and skirt in order to be more agile, escaped the Cloning Facility, and ran into the forest to find the address of her father’s house.
Three days later, she managed to stumble up the steps to Mr. Burns’ mansion. She was extremely weak, but she managed to ring the doorbell. Mr. Burns and Smithers opened the door only to see a dying girl standing at their doorstep. Stephanie recognized her father’s and managed to say “Father...” very quietly before collapsing to the ground.
She woke up in a room of the mansion, hooked up to an oxygen tank. Smithers told her that it was a miracle that she survived. She soon recovered only to realize that her father didn’t want her because she wasn’t a boy. So she bought some boy clothes, tucked her long hair into a black and red baseball hat, and got a spiky punk collar made for her that had a voice changing device put in so she could sound like a boy. She showed Mr. Burns how she looked like a boy now and told him to call her Steve instead of Stephanie. Mr. Burns decided to accept her as his son and sent her to an all-boy boarding school.
She stayed at the boys’ boarding school for a year without anybody noticing that she was actually a girl. Then one day she got hit in the head with a football, which knocked her hat off her head causing her long hair to fall out. All the guys gasped, but Stephanie just stood up and said, “Yeah, I’m a girl! So what!?” And then she walked out of the gates of the school and back home.
After she got home she said that she still wanted to be called Steve, but she would only dress like a boy in public. At home she would dress like a girl. Later on, Mr. Burns overheard her singing. She sang really good, so he somehow managed to get her a career as a singer. It was soon discovered by a few people in Springfield that Steve was actually a girl after seeing her preform as a girl, so she almost completely stopped dressing as a guy even though she still went by Steve.
Despite how much kindness Smithers has shown her, she doesn’t like him because she knows he’s gay for her father, and she calls him a “Flipping Fruit-Cake” almost constantly. There are very few times that she’s actually nice to him. She also later adopts a chihuahua she names Akachan.
At some point, she is brought into the Family Guy world by the Blindfolded Assassin just to be introduced before being returned to the world she belongs to.
High School Version
Unlike the original version, Stephanie has always lived with Mr. Burns. She was very sick and weak though, she she never went outside or saw anybody. Then at 15 she finally got healthy enough to leave the house and go to school. Mr. Burns refuses to accept that Stephanie is a girl and often introduces her as his son named Steve. Stephanie tries to correct him, but it’s no use.
She gets along well with Smithers, because he’s the only one who actually pays attention to her. At one point, Smithers feels that Stephanie needs friends who are her own age and invites his nephew, Preston, to stay in Springfield. Stephanie and Preston fall in love and start dating.
This was my very first Avengers OC. I made her up after my sister made me watch ‘The Avengers’ a couple times. I never gave her a name, but she was kinda a self-insert anyway. I’m actually very surprised that I found her profile and pictures still saved on my computer. ~ Julie
Background: Her mother died giving birth to her and a few months later, her father committed suicide. She was then raised by her grandparents (her father’s parents). Her grandfather died of a heart attack when she was eight and her grandmother died of cancer when she was 12. Her mother’s parents had died about a year before she was born. Neither of her parents had any sibling, so she didn’t have any cousins. She was in and out of foster care until she turned 18. Being gifted with a vivid imagination and photographic memory, she got a part-time job as a comic book illustrator and when to an art institute for a while. She ended up dating her boss who turned out to be a self-centered jerk who flirted with any girl he saw and he broke up with her only to find out that no other woman could ever tolerate him. However, she did not accept him back, despite his pleas. Her comic book illustrating job became full-time when she was 20 and she took a part-time job as a crime sketch artist. Later at the age of 21 she had officially graduated college and ended up working for the Avengers as a crime sketch artist in order to find all the people Loki corrupted. The problem was that most of the people who actually got a good look at Loki’s drones where either dead or in a coma. Being bored most of the time, she tried to get some illustrating done, but with the constant arguments that ensued, it was impossible for her to work. So one day she became so irritated that she snuck off into a large room that she believed was for storage; even though she knew she probably wasn’t supposed to go in there. She ran into Loki who was contained in a huge glass prison and over time began talking to him more and more. She told him about how she was fed up with the stereotypical hero comics that she was forced to illustrate and how she dreamed of creating her own graphic novel and break away from her idiotic boss and her annoying coworkers; and, upon her request and revelation of her own life, he basically told her his life story. Loki grew fond of her and she grew fond of him; though neither knew of the other’s feelings. Then at one point, Loki ended up escaping and held her hostage. He had no intention of hurting her and released her in an abandoned warehouse. They heard the Avengers closing in and Loki had to leave, but not without giving her a (rather forceful) kiss. When the Avengers found her (despite her state of shock) she lied for Loki, saying that he just dropped her off in the warehouse with the intention of killing her when the Avengers showed up but left without a word. When the Avengers questioned her further about Loki’s actions, she just told them that she didn’t know why he let her go, but it was most likely because she had no useful knowledge or skills and no real emotional attachments to anyone. Soon after the incident, she began writing her own graphic novel, which ended up becoming quite popular and made enough money for her quit her job with her idiotic boss and become a full-time crime sketch artist along with continuing to write her own graphic novels.
Novel: The novel was titled “Low-Key” and is about a villain by that name who kidnaps a young female intern from a secret agency, who had often visited the cell where he was kept and over time had taking a shining to him, and holds her hostage. The agency assembles their best team in order to not only recapture Low-Key, but also save the young intern. In the meantime, Low-Key is hiding in his lair with the young intern. They end up confessing their feeling to each other, then as the secret agents are closing in on his lair, Low-Key and the young intern say their tearful goodbyes and Low-Key gives her a kiss before he escapes and goes into hiding. The graphic novel was tearful to everyone who read it and the public eagerly awaits a sequel.

Sorry about the lack of posts lately. We don’t really get many submissions from other people and we’re running out of our own Sues to submit. I recently cleaned out stuff in my room though, so I’ll go through some old art folders and see if there’s any old OCs I haven’t submitted already. If I don’t find anything, I may have to resort to begging my sister and some of her friends to submit some of their Sues or at least send in some OCs to critique. So unless we find some old OCs or have people submit theirs, then there will be very few posts (if any at all) for a while. ~ Julie
I had to take a screenshot of an old YouTube video I made in order to even get these pictures since my old computer ate them. This was a Xiaolin Showdown self-insert from either my freshman or sophomore year of high school. Her name was Julie Spicer and she was Jack Spicer’s fraternal twin sister, but Jack was the favorite child. So Julie and Jack were raised differently and had very different hobbies because Jack was treated as a genius while Julie was treated as an idiot. Despite this, their sibling relationship has not been damaged in any way. I actually wrote a little one-shot about her that can still be found floating around the internet somewhere. There was no point to her other than being “random” and obnoxious. ~ Julie
This was Naomi the coyote demon. She was the demon that lived inside my Naruto OC’s and Gaara’s youngest daughter, Gaari. I actually had a ton of pictures and word documents about this thing, but my old computer ate them. All I remember about the demon is that she was the child of Shukaku my OC’s demon, Nami. Naomi was apparently more powerful than both Nami and Shukaku, making her extremely dangerous and hard for Gaari to control sometimes. ~ Julie
Quick Question
Does anybody here need us to tag any triggers? If so, what triggers should we tag?
Self harm? Rape? Racism? Homophobia? Transphobia? Harassment? Sexual abuse? Mental abuse? Physical abuse? Gore? I can’t think of any more…
Alright. Trigger warnings for these have been added. If there’s a post that you think needs one of these trigger warnings and I neglected to add it, then don’t hesitate to ask!:) ~ Julie
ocs-can-you-not answered: maybe add body horror, missing limbs, amputee, stuff like that?
Alright!:) I don’t believe there’s any posts currently that need those tags (unless I missed some posts), but when there is I will be sure to tag them! ~ Julie
