Oh, hello there. I don't know if I've met you before. I was raised in foster homes as Calliope Bay, with no idea who my parents were. When I was sixteen I went on my first adventures with the Doctor, and my life began. Then I found out who I really am - my name is Calliope Pond, and I am the Doctor and River Song's daughter. Calliope spun around on her heels, hands over her face.

“I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now, you know. And if it were any other two people I’d come to you, except now you’re the one that screwed up!”

She turned to face her mother again and looked her straight in the eye. “How on earth are you going to tell Dad? You’re going to have a baby, and it’s not even his.”

Calliope didn’t know what to say. She hated seeing her mother cry, but at the same time she couldn’t believe, after everything her father had done, that she would throw it away for a one night stand. Calliope had never before experienced the feeling of both wanting to hug someone and slap them across the face simultaneously.

She decided to deal with practicality before emotions. “Are you quite sure it’s not Dad’s? A few weeks is quite early to find out you’re pregnant. Maybe it’s actually Dad’s.” Maybe. Maybe if she said it enough it would be true.

Calliope spun around on her heels, hands over her face.

"I don't know what I'm supposed to do now, you know. And if it were any other two people I'd come to you, except now you're the one that screwed up!"

“I don’t understand why! People don’t love mistakes. They erase them. They try to pretend they never happened. But they certainly don’t love them.” Calliope let her mother keep her arm around her, but she wouldn’t meet her eyes.

Calliope couldn’t say anything. She buried her face in her knees.

“Hugging me doesn’t always make it better, you know.” She murmured a few minutes later.

River droped her arms and nodded

“So what are we going to do?” Calliope said tightly. “You can’t stay here if those things might come back.”

“Yeah. Make sure they know what happened to you, otherwise you might just as well be here.” Her voice sounded quiet, not soft, but like a music box dying down and cracking like old paint. She still heard the voices from her dream in her mind.

“It’s hard not to believe things, when you hear them often enough, even when it’s just in your head.” Calliope relaxed into her mother’s arms, hugging her tightly to her. “Stay safe, yeah?” she whispered.

Calliope smiled. “Good.” She kissed her mother on the cheek and stepped back.

Blanche’s cheeks turned a little pink after she recognised her, and Calliope couldn’t help laughing. “Alright, Blanche. It kind of is, actually - Mum likes to be the best at what she does, so it’s not too often that she gives such high praise to people in the same field as her,” said Calliope. “What things here are yours?” She suddenly realised something. “You must be sick of talking about it, actually. Don’t worry - I’ll just …” She stepped back, slightly red.

My mother's an archaeologist, and she said that your work is the foundation on which future Egyptology will be built." Calliope was also fairly sure her mother had fooled an army of Romans by wearing a replica of a headdress that Dr. Mottershead had discovered, but she wasn't about to say that.
