Mother Molly - OPEN
“It’s a bit loud this morning. I’m sorry dear… but come in, come in, come in” Molly had one of the twins in her arms while little Percy was hugging her leg and made it difficult for her to walk around to keep her oldest two away from brooms and baby George. “You brother is only four months old, Bill. Charlie, you won’t make him fly - set him down!”
The Weasley’s home hadn’t been quiet since Charlie’s birth. His older brother had been a lovely child and always smiling to make his parents happy and proud but except for Percy they were all tiny Prewett’s as well.
“Percy, mummy can’t walk like that” Percy didn’t listen and Molly managed to walk them both to the kitchen and make a cup of tea for her visitor. At least she had managed to keep the kitchen tidy today and had some time to talk to another adult while Arthur was at work.
Remus said nothing as the older woman ushered him into her bustling home, but he did smile. The children, all them shouting and laughing as they played, were a bittersweet sight for Remus. His own childhood had been void of siblings or even very many playmates. So while he was delighted to be welcomed somewhere so warm and joyful the reminder of what he had missed out on stung just a little.
Remus finally let out a bit of a chuckle as he stood in the doorway to the kitchen. "I could come back later if you'd like, Molly. Or I could watch the boys for a bit if you have things to attend to?" He meant the offer but was apprehensive none the less, uncertain if he could manage all five youngsters on his own for even a few minutes without destroying The Burrow.
Remus looked up at her with determination in his eyes though, not willing to let her see his worrying. The bruise around his eye, a gift from the last full moon, had finally faded enough to stop drawing attention everywhere he went, a matter trend was especially thankful for given the young age of most of the present company. Children did not need to be exposed to the violence that lived inside Remus. The scars were more difficult to hide, but the most recent and obvious were easily covered with a long sweater.

Did You Lose Something? || Remus & Augustus || August 18th, 1978
Augustus rolled his eyes at the boy’s anxiety. Honestly, teenagers these days. Fresh out of Hogwarts, Augustus was so broke he would have taken food from even the seediest of characters, such was his constant hunger. To be honest, he thought for a moment, not much had changed.
“Come off it, lad, I’m not gonna try anything funny.” Augustus said lightly, taking a swig from his scalding coffee, the sharp pain in his mouth causing him to pull a face. “Christ, that’s bitter.” He coughed, brain rattling painfully in his skull.
Sitting up straighter, Augustus looked up at Remus patiently. “My name is Augustus Rookwood. I’m thirty-three, which is horrible and I work for the Ministry. If my wallet had been snatched by someone who hates me, I would honestly not have a job on Monday.” It was an exaggeration, but only slight. His identification card could easily have been used to get into the Department with a bit of clever charm-work.
As if on cue, the young waitress wandered over with two plates of food. She looked between Remus and Augustus, puzzled. “Sausage and eggs and a bacon sandwich?” The girl asked hesitantly, causing Gus to nod.
“They’re for my young friend, here,” he said. looking to Remus and smiling slighty. “But I’m not sure where he wants to sit.”
Lad. The single word stuck out to Remus, glowing brightly and warming him from the inside out as he tried to sort through everything else that seemed to be happening around him. The name that was given held no meaning to Remus but he was humble enough to admit that he was not well versed in even the biggest names inside the ministry of magic. Large brown eyes studied the man as he tried to decide what he was going to do. The food arrived before Remus had made up his mind. The smell of bacon and eggs wafted up from the plate balanced on the server’s palm and between his snarling stomach and Moony’s growing anger Remus gave in. “This is my seat.” He said quickly as he slipped into the chair across from Augustus. “Thank you.” He said softly to the server as she set down the plate in front of Remus and walked away. Internally he cursed himself for how girlish he had sounded. “And thank you, Mister Rookwood.” He corrected his voice this time and the lower pitch was comforting to his ears. “Remus Lupin.” The boy introduced himself before looking down at the food piled on his plate. The sandwich looked just as good as it smelled and it was with a watering mouth that Remus lifted the first half and bit in. Chewing, Remus looked back up at his breakfast companion and nodded his thanks once more. “So mister Rookwood, what uh, what do you do at the ministry?” Remus asked after swallowing the first bite. He was genuinely curious about this question given the man’s cryptic comment before
Late Morning || Sirius & Remus || August 19, 1978
toujourspunk:
The metallic taste of blood was on his tongue, the first stirrings of a headache beginning behind his right eye. Still in his canine form, the sound of his name pulled him back from the realms of unconsciousness, one amber eye opening to peer at the young man curled on his side above him. Everything hurt. Stretching with a whine, the large black dog raised himself up onto paws that were still a little on the large side, sitting on his hind legs, the front ones thrown over Remus’ lap. Snuffling at his face, a lick was delivered to the wounds on his face, a small sigh huffed through his wet nose. Head cocked, Padfoot studied the now human Remus pensively, before all at once the dog was replaced by the young man Remus had called for. Beneath his right eye was a long, thin cut that stretched the length of his cheekbone, his lower lip split in two parts and crusted with dried blood. He didn’t often make a habit of being Padfoot unless the occasion called for it, but similarly he had no wish to intrude on Remus’ space when he was in the throes of lycanthropy. Sleeping on the floor seemed best and it was a good deal more comfortable to do this as a canine. “Uh well that would be Peter. Shocking, I know. But Moony got a little more…zealous with Wormy than usual last night so he bit you. Looks like a nasty one too. As for the other eye, that was me. Sorry. Padfoot entirely underestimated the drop when they were play fighting and Moony ended up at the bottom of a rather large hill. Think that was likely why your back looks like it does.” Rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly, he cleared his throat. Even though it had all happened in the context of fun, seeing Remus looking like such a sorry state made the guilt coil in the pit of his stomach. “Want me to go make a cheese sandwich?”
At the whine from the floor Remus pushed himself up on bony elbows. His vision was not impaired despite the swelling he felt around his eye which was a small relief. That Padfoot was nearby was a bigger relief. Remus felt the wet tongue and weight on his legs before he saw the black furry mass before him. At the pressure on his tender face from Padfoot’s affection Remus winced and gave a small gasp of pain. Remus scratched behind Padfoot’s ear for just a moment meeting the large eyes before him, dropping his hand as the dog morphed back into a boy.
“Oh Padfoot.” Remus left out a soft sigh as his eyes traced Sirius’ face. Guilt settled in his gut and not for the first time Remus wondered how he had let his best friends risk so much. He listened to the Sirius recount the events of the night before, confirming the wild images that ran through his mind. Nodding, Remus dropped his eyes to the white t-shirt, ripped and stained red on his shoulder. Remus knew he deserved worse than the painful sting. Sirius. knelt before him, handsome features bloody and bruised, and with no evidence as to what state the other boys were left in Remus could only assume the worst.
He frowned at Sirius’ offer, staring sadly down as his split lip. Without thinking Remus reached a pair of fingers out towards his face, wishing he could repair the broken skin in front of him. Coming to his senses Remus stopped midair and withdrew his hand before he could touch the pale skin. This was not at all how boys should behave, he could share his concern without all the girly fanfare.
“Oh!” He smiled. “Actually, I’m starving and that sounds excellent.”
Remus was quite for a moment, wondering how best to express his concern without sounding like the old Runa. “So where are James a Peter?” He asked sitting up properly on the bed and running a hand through his hair. “Not at Saint Mungos I hope.” Despite the slight quaver to his voice Remus was pleased with his phrasing.
Help, I need somebody || Mary and Remus
alionwithoutitsroar:
The wait was agonising, and Mary could feel her heart beating faster and faster with each second that ticked by. Her gaze was constantly flickering around her to make sure there was no-one watching, no-one following, and her body was so tense muscles so tight, that the ache in Mary’s chest was soon spreading to her every limb, leaving the blonde feeling even more uncomfortable than when she had first arrived at Remus’ door.
The opening of the door did little to appease the war that was raging inside Mary’s chest; only the sight of Remus could do that. And calm her it did, with the sight of her friend and his touch to her arm causing the ex-Gryffindor to relax immediately, her whole body going lax and her shoulders slumping forwards as she finally allowed herself to take a deep breath, and simply breathe for a moment or two.
Allowing a gentle - though admittedly nervy - smile to tug at the corners of her lips, Mary was quick to nod her head at Remus’ request, completely oblivious to her friend’s plight as she simply stepped aside to let him out, her shaking having finally subsided now that she was in the company of a person she trusted.
“A walk sounds wonderful.”
Remus simply smiled in reply. Patting the pockets of his jeans to check for his wallet and keys Remus stepped out the door. It was dark and Remus hoped that between this and the late hour of the night they would run into few people on the streets. Fewer people to overhear their conversation and fewer people to see the curve under his t-shirt. With a hand at the small of her back Remus gently guided Mary towards one of the less popular streets in his neighborhood, seeking out privacy.
Remus enjoyed the silence that sat between them as they walked, he hoped it would have a relaxing affect on the girl rather than wind her up any more than she likely already was. With a gentle sigh Remus slipped his arm around Mary’s hooking them together they way Runa had when they were younger. It was funny how so many things Runa had done Remus would never dream of doing these days, always trying so hard to present as well as he could, and yet this very girlish action, hooking arms as they strolled, did not send Remus spiraling to the ground in anxiety.
“How are you doing, Mary?” Remus finally asked. He did not look across at her but rather directed his question out into the darkness as they walked. His voice was soft but full of genuine concern and Remus knew she heard him.
Did You Lose Something? || Remus & Augustus || August 18th, 1978
codename-wren:
“Of course you aren’t,” Augustus laughed loudly at the mistimed wailing in the boy’s stomach. The question of why the boy was so hungry briefly crossed his mind, taking in Remus’ slight frame and posture. Street urchin, the romantic part of his brain provided. Oliver Twist, he was sure he could hear his sister saying.
Get a fucking grip, Rookwood.
Slapping the boy on the shoulder and feeling the slightness of the frame beneath him, Augustus grabbed his wallet off the table before sauntering off towards the counter, whistling tunelessly. Was Augustus in the habit of feeding stray teenagers? No, but there was something very non-discriminatory in Augustus’ generosity. It was the politician in him, he supposed, the overriding compulsion to please everyone. That and the hangover was making him feel very odd.
“Next there, please.” The young witch behind the counter said and Augustus frowned. Slowly, he scanned the menu, feeling his delicate stomach turning at the the very thought of putting any of it near his mouth. He had forgotten to ask the boy what he had wanted, so caught up in averting a disaster that could have transpired if someone less honest had found his wallet. Had forgotten to ask him his name too, but he supposed there was no urgent need to know it.
Swiveling to lean against the counter, Augustus caught sight of the wisp of a boy before calling, “Bacon sarnie, alright?” Not waiting for an answer, the dark man returned his gaze the the young witch who was giving him an exasperated glare at taking up so much of her time. “Yeah, can I have a bacon sandwich, some scrambled eggs,’ Augustus’ eyes narrowed before he ordered two sausages for good measure, remember the boniness of the boy’s shoulder. “Oh and another cup of coffee, please.”
Paying the girl with a flourish, Augustus wandered back to the table, cup of coffee in hand and smiled wanly at Remus. “Food’ll be down in a sec. Lots of protein.” You look like you need it, Augustus didn’t say as he slid back into his seat.
Remus wanted to object, he did not need or particularly want a charity breakfast from a stranger, he was perfectly happy sipping his tea and enjoying a large lunch when he returned home. There was a chance Sirius would be waiting for him back at the apartment as well and Remus hated the thought of missing out on time spent with his mate. But before Remus could say another work the man had clasped a large, heavy hand on his shoulder and walked away.
Remus turned, his gaze following the hulking figure as the man moved up in the queue, still unable to say anything as he tried to figure out what was expected of him now. After all, what was this man’s motive? As Remus dwelt on this question he began to worry. It couldn’t be helped after all, rarely since coming out did Remus experience kindness from strangers without an ulterior motive or ill intentions. So it was with a wary eye that Remus watched the other man.
A question was called out across the room at Remus but he processed the words too slowly to reply and resorted to simply nodding. When the man returned Remus had still not moved from where he had been standing when the man had left. Remus wrapped both hands around his mug of tea, warming thin fingers against the ceramic uncertainly.
“Thank you, sir. But you-you didn’t need to do that.” Remus tried to reassure the man as his mind raced for a way out before disaster could strike. “I could take my food to go if you’d rather be alone.” He offered, pleased with this solution.
Late Morning || Sirius & Remus || August 19, 1978
Remus groaned and rolled his head surprised to find an actual pillow and mattress and not a lump of grass underneath him. Someone must have apperated him home in the early morning. Remus groaned again, not wanting o think about all that would have been entailed with that procedure. Remus stretched his arms out over his head, immediately regretting the decision as a bolt of pain wrenched through his left shoulder. Remus dropped both arms back to his sides and tried to breath deeply as he tried to remember any details from the night before.
Impossible flashes of potential memories from the night before flashed through his mind, some of the images seemed more like fantastical dreams than the reality he was sure James, Sirius, and Peter could remember better. The wolf swell up inside him at the memories, pleased with his pack’s loyalty. If only Remus had a better grasp on exactly what happened. It was always like this, though full moons with the marauders had helped his memory retention in human form. Curiosity burned in his chest, similar to the way his shoulder was burning under the t-shirt he was wearing.
“Sirius?” Remus’s voice was a hoarse whisper as he sought out his friend. Remus had no doubt that Sirius was close. Though they each had their own apartments Sirius always seemed to move himself in around the the full moon. Not that Remus minded sharing the tiny studio apartment with the other boy all that much, it was was a little like being back at Hogwarts. Remus ran a hand down his face and winced in pain and the fingers dragged over the swelling around his left eye.
“Sirius, what happened to my face?”
Help, I need somebody || Mary and Remus
alionwithoutitsroar:
As Mary had been quick to learn over the years, ‘bad days’ were always entirely unexpected, and things that you couldn’t exactly simply escape from. As time had passed, the ex-Gryffindor had at the very least learnt how to keep in control of herself once a bad day had hit, but sometimes she found it simply impossible to calm herself down, or pull herself out from the abyss she had unwittingly fallen into. On days such as those, all Mary really needed was a friend; some sort of company that could provide her with the distraction and reminder that she was loved that she found herself so desperately needing and craving.
But if you are a person who doesn’t like to get too close to anybody, who are you supposed to turn to when such a feeling hits? Mary despised the idea of bothering someone, almost as much as seh loathed the idea of being prodded and poked for an answer as to why she might be feeling so low. As a result, she tended to keep to herself whenever possible, and simply battle through her feelings and emotions as best she could. This wasn’t always possible, though, and so some days Mary had no choice but to accept defeat, and grab a hold of any available olive branch.
It was for this reason that - at 11pm at night - Mary found herself waiting outside of the door of one Remus Lupin’s home, having just knocked. In the wake of Mulciber’s attack on her, back when Mary had wanted to stay as far away from everyone as was humanly possible, she had managed to find a small amount of comfort and support from Remus, where previously they had barely spoken. They found themselves able to quickly and relatively easily develop a ‘no-questions-asked’ based relationship, and so had over the years learnt to turn to one another in times of need, trusting that they would never be asked to explain why.
And so now, in perhaps her greatest time of need, Mary had no choice but to stand outside the door of her friend and wait, praying that he would once more be able to offer her with the comfort and companionship that she found herself so desperately craving, but often unable to accept.
{ madnessinmyblood }
It was late, but Remus was awake. The night was pitch black outside beyond the window dressings and Remus should have been chasing sleep rather than allowing his body to stay up like this. But the best ideas are not always the ones we choose in the end. The kitchen had been cleaned, and the bathroom too, and now Remus was folding the wash from earlier in the day, humming softly to himself. There were no thoughts that filled Remus' mind as the act of cleaning and folding was meditative in a way and Remus was happy to lose himself in the mundane task.
Standing to move a small pile of shirts put out his way Remus caught sight of himself in the mirror over the dresser. The sight broke the boy from his peace. The bright purple-blue ring around his eye had faded slightly to a less violent shade of greenish brown. The slice over his shoulder and down the left arm was scaring, no longer bleeding thanks to Sirius' handy work with his wand. These were the most noticeable marks left behind after the full moon three nights previous. The slice down his arm was easy enough to hide with longer sleeves, but it was the black eye that had kept Remus inside the apartment as much as possible in the past three days.
Remus wanted to tear his eyes away from the painful reflection staring back at him from the mirror, and yet it was like a broom wreck you couldn’t look away from. The scars that marred his body were no comparison to the angry red marks that the bandages left behind at the end of every day. The chafing that would occasionally bleed though the bandages was of less concern to Remus than the strange shape that his rib cage had begun to take from the years of binding. Fingers traced down the sides of his body as angry tears welled up in the corners of his eyes.
The knock at the door pulled Remus from his spiraling thoughts.
A slight panic swelled inside him as he searched for the loosest shirt available to him. They were at war. There were no good late night calls in war. With no time to wrap up the swell of his chest under the shirt Remus approached the door with shaking hands.
“Mary!” He said, voice soft in surprise as a smile crept across his lips, genuinely pleased to see his old friend. It was obvious right away that she was perhaps not entirely herself tonight and Remus reached out with a gentle hand to squeeze her arm. “How about we go for a walk.” He suggested; the fresh air would to them both good. Trying not to think about how telling his figure was in this moment, Remus tried to keep his mind on Mary and what she needed.
Did You Lose Something? || Remus & Augustus || August 18th, 1978
codename-wren:
The mistiness of Saturday morning found Augustus Rookwood sitting quietly in a teashop in Diagon Alley. The sun hid lazily behind clouds and there was a sleepiness in the air after a hectic working week that seeped into the man’s hair, his skin, and under his clothes.
The excessive drinking of the night before was coming back pushed sharply at Gus’ brain. Alcohol was such a cruel love. Through the haze, a soft voice caused chocolate-coloured eyes to look up from his coffee and catch with the person’s above him. Soft.
“Jesus, fuck.” Augustus found himself saying after a moment of dawning realisation. Reaching out a large hand, the man took the wallet from the boy sharply, scanning its content briefly before leaving it on the dark wood table before him. How had he let himself be so stupid?
“Thank you so much.” The man’s focus soon returned to the teenager, his hero standing before him. “Please, llet me buy you breakfast, or pay for your drink.” He said, scrambling to his feet.
Remus’ heart leaped only slightly at the man’s exclamation, but he managed to remain standing still rather than react, watching the man carefully. Experience told Remus that he ought to still remain wary despite the stranger’s thus far friendly reaction. He was large with an impressive stature, even sitting as he was, and Remus felt a passing twinge of jealously over the broad shoulders and well built arms he would likely never be able to achieve. The hand that reached out to take the wallet back was, not surprisingly, larger than Remus’ own, but even more noticeable was the stark contrast between their pigmentation.
“You’re welcome, sir.” Remus replied with a smile and was turning to leave hoping to find a seat alone to sip his tea when the other man rose from his own seat with an offer on his dark lips. “Oh.” Remus turned back to face him. The long strip of bandage that was bound around Remus’ chest pinched as he twisted. “That is not necessary, sir.” Remus shook his head, caught off guard by the offer.
Remus did not want to impose on the man, after all Remus had not done anything more than the next person in line would have done. By the look of him, well dressed and handsome, he was likely a man of some importance, who, in any other circumstance, would likely have little interest in dining with someone as strange in appearance as Remus Lupin. No, this was a man who, no matter what he might say, must prefer to dine alone this morning.
The truth was that the beast inside of Remus was very hungry, and with the moon impossibly close it was the werewolf that ran through his veins that was in control of his most base needs. That night Moony would run wild in the woods, and it was all Remus could do to keep him in control for just ten more hours. “I’m not hungry anyway.” He tried to brush the offer away with a lie, but the loud and ill timed growl of his very stomach gave Remus away and he cursed the wolf.
Did You Lose Something? || Remus & OPEN || August 18th, 1978
Tea. If there was one thing the impossibly frugal Remus was willing to splurge on it was a strong cup of tea. Though he usually brought a tea bag along with him from home, today Remus had agreed to treat himself, just a little. The interview at the library had gone well yesterday, and the brief owl exchange with Alyssa had left Remus cautiously hopeful.
Ordering his tea, earl gray with lavender, was simple enough, but as he turned away from the counter with a steaming mug brew Remus noticed a wallet on the floor. Stopping to pick it up Remus looked around as though there would be a glowing arrow pointing at the owner of the wallet. Not finding any such useful clue Remus flipped open the item and inspected the identification inside.
The picture inside made it easy enough to identify the individual sitting alone at a table. If only approaching was so easy. A few deep, steadying breaths and Remus forced himself to push down the anxiety churning in his gut, to ignore the voices reminding Remus of the taunts and jeers he faced far to often from complete strangers.
“Excuse me.” He said cautiously as he approached the table. “I believe you dropped this?”

Alyssa,
It is wonderful to hear from you. I hope you are doing well. I have found myself missing our study sessions since leaving school, a bit of peace and quiet is always welcomed.
Anyway, yes, I was applying for the tutoring position I had seen advertised. Most places I have applied take one look at me and… Well, you’re a clever woman, I’m sure you can guess what they are thinking. But the head librarian didn’t throw me out the moment I stepped into her office so I’m taking that as a good sign.
Any tips for getting on her good side?
Remus
Remus,
Our study sessions were fun and helpful last year. I miss them too. Even if having more study sessions would be pointless now, we should try to meet up sometime.
The head librarian doesn’t care much for impressions, she cares more for the interviews and who you are rather than what you can see on first glance. She also needs all the help she can get, trust me. I’ve been working multiple shifts because we’re down on librarians, despite having just gotten a few hundred or so more books.
She mostly wants someone who’ll follow the rules and work hard. And for the tutoring position, I imagine she’ll want people good at talking with others. She also really likes people that are curious and search out information. But, if it would help, I could put in a good word for you. She likes me, so it might be helpful.
Alyssa,
Getting together is a wonderful idea. As pleasant as our study sessions were it might be nice to try something new, perhaps coffee sometime? Or if your aren't horribly sick of books I know an excellent second hand book shop off of Diagon Ally we could investigate.
Your words give me great comfort, Alyssa. I had been worried that perhaps I had mucked up my interview by just being myself, but by your description this would be a wonderful place to work. And very suited to my approach to working. Perhaps I will send along an owl to the head librarian letting her know I would be happy to assist as a librarian as well as a tutor if there is need.
Would you really do that? I don't want to impose or ask anything of you, but a good word from you would likely do very well in helping me to earn this position. You are a gem.
Remus
Remus,
I know we haven’t talked much since graduation (we didn’t really talk much at Hogwarts either, really), but I saw you yesterday at the library I work at. Are you applying there?

What if marauders always talked like this about Remus’ state after full moon? I mean:
Lily : How is he?
James : He’s looked worse.
month later
Lily : How is he?
Sirius : He’s looked better.
And in this scene Remus is remembering this little tradition, because how could you describe human’s state after full moon? He’s never alright and you just don’t want to say that he lookes terrible, because it’s really not that bad this time. He’s looked worse. This is Remus teaching Harry how to talk about it like his father did.
