Ah, so there was more to this boy than the initial shyness he was showing. This was something much deeper. He didn’t want to analyse, but he thought that this looked like it could be autism.

"That’s okay," he said. "But sometimes it’s also okay to see whether the rules you’re given are reasonable, and whether the people you’re doing it for a worth the hardship."

That just made things more complicated and Calum didn’t want to spend all that time figuring things out when he didn’t really care about them to begin with. “I want to go home now,” he said, still holding his phone in both hands. “He says I can’t go home. I’ve never had a job before.”

"Oh yeah? Why’s that?" he asked, letting the boy have his personal space. He tilted his head down towards the boy though.

He never looked directly at the other while they spoke, but he managed to look somewhat in the right direction. "Because if I don't listen to the rules it only becomes more complicated to understand people when they aren't clearly saying what they want and often when they say what the rules are they make little sense to me, but a lot of sense to everyone else, so following them is the right thing to do and I don't want to upset anyone. I also just don't like not following them."

"We don’t have to listen to them, if we all decide not to," he said, his eyebrows raising to show concern towards the other. "We’re working on something useless," he told the boy. "I only come to be with my people."

Calum nodded a little. "I know it's useless," he said, looking at the fence for a moment. "But I'm not very good with rules and not listening to them..."

Simon nodded a little. “Are you alright? I haven’t seen you around here much.” His kind intention was clear by the way he approached the boy and he hoped he would confide in him what the reason was behind not having been here before. Simon would support it, most likely.

"I avoid going outside," he replied. He looked behind him for a moment, to see whether the guy from before was still at a save distance. "I didn't know we didn't have a choice."

Simon had seen the boy only once before and now he was at the fence, while being eyed by Gary Kendal, with blood smeared over his top lip, Simon wasn’t sure what conclusion to pull. “Why are you bleeding?” he asked kindly, while he approached the boy. He looked shaken and vacant simultaneously.

"I got hit in my face," he replied, without thinking whether or not he even wanted that discussed. He didn't know of another answer he could've given. He was still clutching his phone and no closer to letting go of it either.

"And wear the apron thing next time," he said, before laughing.

He caught the Walker boy staring for a moment and he raised his eyebrows intimidatingly, telling him to get back to work. And then he caught the other guy, the Irish lad, looking at the boy he’d just had an ordeal with. Gary turned around. He had nothing to do with this.

He didn't look while he was being spoken to and instead looked at the fence for a moment, as if somehow that'd tell him what to do next. He had no idea how to help, even if he did want to. Frankly, he just wanted to go back home and forget he'd ever planned on coming outside today. It'd been a bad idea from the start.

Gary looked as if he had nothing to do with the boy when he first approached, so he wouldn’t get accused of the black blood on his face or the way he was clutching his phone in his hands. “Ye’re late.” He said loudly enough, before approaching the boy.

"Not a word of wha’ happened. Get to work on the fence. Copy everyone else. Get fuckin’ to it," he said more quietly.

He did little else when he was in public. Copying others was usually his go to solution when in social situations, but he didn't fancy doing any of that now, when it'd require having to let go of his phone. He didn't dare argue, though, so stepped towards the fence, looking at what the others were doing.

He didn’t know what the boy or the boy’s phone would be like when he got to the fence, or if he’d get there at all. He might not even find it, or he might not even try to. Gary didn’t understand the kid at all.

He was holding his phone tightly in both hands while he went in the direction he'd seen the truck drive off in. He had no idea how easy it'd be too find, but he didn't particularly have anything else to go on. Well, he could try his phone, but he hadn't dared loosening his grip yet.

It took him about twenty minutes to find where he had to be and he walked up to the fence reluctantly/

Gary got in his truck and drove off without the kid. If anyone would hear about this, he wouldn’t be in trouble, he knew that. He was in charge and he had all the reason to do this. Maxine Martin would agree with him, definitely.

He arrived at the fence, where he took over Dean’s shift, waiting to see whether the kid would turn up, while making sure these rotters didn’t misbehave.

He only found his phone after a few minutes and he was almost afraid to see whether it still worked. It'd switched off and for a moment it didn't seem to want to turn back on again, but then it did. Not that that meant it was in the pristine state it was usually in. He sat there for a moment, holding his phone, because he got up to get to the fence, where he'd been told to go.

Gary couldn’t believe the kid was actually still asking for the phone while a gun was being pointed at him and he shook his head, moving his hand into his pocket to grab the phone. There was a lot of distance between them and he knew that one side of the road they were on was grassy and turned into a big field. He looked at the boy and then flung the phone as hard as he could in the direction of the field.

"Go and get it, if ye want it so badly. Ye’ve got fifteen minutes to be at work, or you’re going to have to explain te Miss Martin why ye’re not coming in."

Calum followed the phone with his eyes and immediately got up. He barely even heard what he was told. The only thought he had was that he couldn't possibly know when fifteen minutes were over, because he didn't have his phone, and that almost made him sick.

He ran towards where he thought he'd seen the phone land, but once there he couldn't actually see it between the grass. He got down on his knees and started looking all around, frantically.

This caused him to jump back. He was a short guy, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t strong, at all.

He grabbed the boy’s shoulders and shoved him back as hard as he could, before swinging a fist towards his face, knocking him backwards. And then he pulled a handgun from his pocket. “Ye listen or I’ll shoot ye.”

He lost his balance when he was knocked backwards again and ended up on the floor, looking up at a handgun being pointed his way. He shook his head a little, as if that'd make the image go away. "No, you can't do that," he said with a trembling voice. "Give it back! Just give it back to me!" he said desperately now.

Gary didn’t accept behaviour like this and when he felt the hand from behind him try to get to the phone, he lifted up his own arm and elbowed the other in the face, knocking him back by his nose. Zombies couldn’t fucking die, or bleed, or really have stuff damaged, could they, so what was the deal.

However, when he turned around, he did notice a tiny bit of black blood trickle from the other’s nose. “You fuckin’ listen to me.”

He covered his face with his hands, stumbling back from the blow. He was shocked by what had happened, especially as he hadn't even come close to getting his phone back. He was starting to really panic now, which was visible by his shaking hands. He couldn't handle this, so he immediately lunged forward again. "I need it! I need it back!"

"Did ye just forget the rule I gave ye? Ye get it back when ye get the bloody job done. Follow my truck if ye won’t get in it," he said, crossing his arms and walking back to his car. This kid was unbelievable.

"No," he said, sounding restrained. This wasn't what he was talking about, but he couldn't explain what he meant to say. He knew it was unreasonable to get angry at the other, when he'd been told exactly what to do, but that didn't mean he wanted to do it. He suddenly stepped forward and grabbed hold of the other's arm, pulling him back from the car and immediately trying to snatch his phone back from the other's pocket.

Gary frowned at that and shook his head. “What for, then?” he asked, crossing his arms intimidatingly. “I don’t see why ye’d need to have it on ye.”

"Just because you don't understand something, it doesn't mean it's not true," Calum replied. He was starting to tremble a little, mostly with rage, but also because he was afraid. "So, I'd like it back now."

"Why will ye need it to work? It’ll distract ye. It’s puttin’ piece of metal in the ground, alright? Do ye understand? Ye put pieces in there to make a fence. That’s yer job. Messin’ with ye phone isn’t."

"I won't mess with it," Calum replied, frowning a little. "I just need to have it with me." He was starting to get more frustrated and a panic wasn't too far away, either.

"I need that footage from you. I don't care what you think, I don't care how I need to get it from you, but I need it. Now." Katie spoke urgently. "Give it to me."

"I don’t like giving people my things when I don’t have a reason to," Calum replied, not liking how he was being spoken to. It made him feel nervous.

"Ye won’t need it, ‘cause ye’ll be puttin’ up a fence all day, with all the other PDS-ers.” He spoke the latter word mockingly, clearly completely fed up with this boy. “Now get in me truck, kid.”

Calum shook his head a little. "No, I won't get in the truck," he said, much like he had done before, as if he was refreshing the other's memory of not liking the truck or wanting to be in it. "I'll still need my phone to work, so I suggest maybe give it to me when we get to the fence."
