This guy knows what he’s talking about. He’s one of the lead writers for Leverage and if you ever watch the series on DVD, do yourself a favor and listen to him talk about how the scripts got written. Some of the advice he has is stuff I use all the time: 1. Don’t introduce an important plot person or thing after the first half of the story. 2. Always tie up loose ends. 3. Introduce important things in the middle of unimportant things. 4. If you have to infodump, find an emotion to tie it to and it will seem less like infodump and more like a motive rant. Seriously this guy knows how to write.

There are gonna be people who won't like hearing this but if you want to live in a world where mixed marriages, families, and adoptions (particularly POC adopting outside their "race") aren't maligned and discriminated against, then you have got to get more chill about seeing someone partaking in something cultural that you don't think fits the "race" you perceive them as.

It's a vague memory now, it was a vague memory even at the time I made this post, but I think what sparked this was remembering stupid comments I saw about a Chinese-American cookbook that were complaining about it being written by a white woman and then I looked the white woman up and the briefest research showed she was adopted as a child into a Chinese-American family and just....

Hello author I just finished reading Honey and Hatchet It was a really good story 😍 I also like the way they bicker to each other and their dynamic between them. The story was also not too fast paced the flow of the story is good. I also just want to ask If you are planning to write more Patrick Jane fics?

I have been wanting to write more for Patrick for a while now actually! I have a few things started, but the past year or two has been really difficult for me, so I haven’t been able to write a lot. I hope you come back now and then to check!

And lastly, you write better English than some of my friends who have spoken English their entire lives. I’m honoured that you spent all that time reading when it wasn’t in your native language. What a beautiful thing!

I wish more ao3 users made their bookmarks public. Or maybe a lot of users don’t use bookmarks at all? Hard to tell. It used to be a great way to find new authors - go through the comments or even kudos of fics I liked, check out those users’ bookmarks. But I’m noticing a trend that a lot of people don’t have any public bookmarks anymore.

It came to me, realizing how much she liked Grey’s Anatomy, back in the day. (Back before all the cast changes, back before she stopped bothering with cable TV.)

Nic and I were talking about how she was a strange person to understand. Profoundly narcissistic, but never when you would expect it most. How kind and caring and patient—endlessly patient—she was when taking care of us when we were sick. When we couldn’t care for ourselves.

Nic related how just a few months ago, when his back got locked, she would help him stretch and massage his muscles and rub ointment into his back.

I mentioned how I always told Paul that, though indeed, you can’t trust a word out of her mouth, there’s always a limit. She’ll berate you and judge you but you’ll never be homeless. Your stomach will never be empty. You will always have somewhere to go.

I remember how she wanted to be an EMT. How she dropped out when they got to the surgery viewing, how she tolerated it well—better than some of the cops that were present and fainted behind her—and how she decided that was too much for her.

It’s telling, for me, that that’s the profession she had chosen. She had catered to a need, deep inside of her, to provide care and help to everyone else.

No one saw that core at the end, really. But I always knew it was there.

I fought in your corner mom. It doesn’t mean much anymore, and it feels like both petty and paltry consolation. But I did. I tried.

I tried to see you.

Once again recommending that writers, especially newer writers, start ‘rubber ducking’

When you’re stumped and you don’t know what’s not working for your writing, or you don’t know where to go next, take out a rubber duck (or any equivalent friend/inanimate object, I like to use my dogs) and start explaining every single detail as if the rubber duck knows nothing about writing or about your story. Explain out loud what’s going on, what part you’re up to, why you’re stumped, and what you know you need to get to when you figure out how to get there

Somewhere along the line of putting it into words and externalising the thought process, it’s likely something will slot into place

2398 words on the next chapter for the Astarion fic, and I’ve been working a little bit on the Destiny one in between. So I’m making fairly decent progress!

Still no idea when or how tf I’m going to continue the Yoongi fic because honestly what I had written down doesn’t… feel right anymore? I’m not sure what direction to take it in, if any at all. I started writing it because a friend (?) had motivated me to but now that she’s gone and for all intents and purposes dropped off the surface of the planet (I really hope she did manage to finish that novel and publish it, I wish I knew what it was called so I could get it for myself) it just doesn’t really feel like a priority anymore. Like I was never really invested enough into it without someone else there to bolster me.

Anyways whatever the sleep study was miserable and my eyesight got worse but I get to have my grandfather’s glasses frame refitted with my prescription so that’s at least something cool.

Somehow I’ve managed to get myself to write a little bit on a consistent basis?

For anyone who cares my bf and I moved back in with my father after he retired, the day after what would’ve been mom’s 64th birthday. And dad’s also a Published Writer ™ which means he’s also been fucked re:creativity since both his father and mom died. I’ve been trying to lead by example and sometimes just go into the dining room (it’s dining-living open plan) and just write while he watches the news or some shit.

So the Astarion fic is finally over 2k words at this point, which is rough 1/2 to 2/3 of what I want it to be at. And somehow this has managed to convince dad to write as well!

Going to try and see if I can make it a Friday Night Thing where we just find a spot in town to sit down and write that has either good coffee or good food. (It has to be one of them, I will not tolerate an Establishment with mediocre food and mid-ass beverages.)

There’s a few other fics that I need to get around to as well; the one with Joel, the one with Cayde, the one with Patrick Jane, the one with Yoongi, probably another one with Eddie let’s be real, and I’ve obviously got Ideas for a Loki fic.

Pfffffff let’s just hope my brain can work well enough soon enough that I’ll actually be able to write even half of those.

On the bright side, I have an overnight sleep study tomorrow, which is excessively exciting because anyone who knows me IRL knows that I essentially breakdance in my sleep (PLMD) and that it’s the likeliest cause for my worsening chronic fatigue.

So we’ll see how that goes. :)

Anyways if anyone’s here from AO3 please let me know so I can appropriately love on you.

PSA to all writers,

there appears to be a surge of newly created tumblr blogs mass reaching out to people who post anything related to writing (under writing-related tags) and offering to "beta read their works" for them.

I don't know if they are bots trying to trick people into handing their works to them (so they can then use these works to train their ai machine), or if they have any other ill intentions. but the way they are approaching people (and how all of them are newly created blogs) makes me extremely wary.

as someone who prefers to work alone without a beta reader and someone who will only reach out to a trusted friend (whom I personally know) for beta reading, if I ever want one, I don't know if it's normal for people to reach out to random people and offer to beta read their works for them like this, but I've never seen it before until recently. and I've always been under the impression that a beta reader, especially for fanfics, is someone within the same fandom an author is in, and someone who's friends with an author (or at the very least online mutuals). these new "beta-reading blogs" are apparently reaching out to a lot of random people across various random fandoms, and if I'm being honest, they sound extremely sketchy.

I will apologize if they are legit and if they are real people who genuinely want to help, but from how things look right now, I don't trust them. and I'd advise that you be careful, especially now with the rise of scam bots that are plaguing both tumblr and ao3.
