Just like every city of dreams Dubai too has its story, a transition from dust to dusk and metal. The #DubaiFrame depicts a story of a land that was clearly dominated by traders some 40 plus years ago, against the lean modern hi-tech world of tall glass buildings for which the city is now popular for.
I share a similar special journey tagged to the Dubai Frame. This is how my journey started - Follow the link.
Post launch of the Frame to the public, hubs and I finally decided to go and watch our final product displayed at the Dubai Futuristic Museum.
Word of Caution!
If you plan to visit on a weekend, book your tickets online or visit on a weekday when you have a better chance of avoiding long queues at the ticket counter and then an even longer queue at the main entrance. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the entire journey, especially watching a very agitated man who simply despises public crowded spaces. All this was taken in good fun, as nothing can be disorganized here. The queues moved quickly, and after 15 minutes we had the tickets in our hand and Horray!
Oops! Now came the long wait as expected. If you have been at the of Burj Khalifa, in Dubai you might be familiar with the drill. Since everything was managed in batches, one is bound to go through a bit of wait.
The moment of truth lies in when you enter the space. Decorated in all white marble giving a feeling of the luxury that transcends you through time, helping you realize the desert that used to be, (if you have lived or seen Dubai some 40 years ago), and where is it now. At least, I know I felt that way, as I have great teenage memories of this place when all that existed on Sheikh Zayed road were the World Trade Center, and me along with friends would walk down to Al Ghurair center, to take a shuttle bus to the all-new Burjuman Mall, the trendiest hangout place for teenagers and youngsters like myself.
Ohh well; as time goes on, and nations progress.. this one certainly seems to be on roller blades progressing at the speed of light :).
Here is an image of how the #DubaiFrame tour is structured.
The tour started from the mezzanine floor through the old Dubai souq museum, built in the same way as one can experience it even today, with the same mists, traditional housing, shops, vendors, and traders when the city was a fishing village and a hub for traders. To our disappointment, no visitors are allowed to take any photographs while experiencing the Old and Futuristic museums. But, in some way, I appreciated that fact, as then one gets involved in just taking pictures rather than experiencing the place.
And then came the fun part. Going up the 18m high frame and the view that awaits you. When you get to the top sky deck, this showcases the present Dubai, with Old Dubai facing the North and New Dubai to the South. Before, one can get too absorbed with the view, landscape and play with the augmented reality screens, through which you can spot any building make sure you experience all this and much more in JUST 15 minutes. Yes, remember how I said earlier, the tour started off in batches and long queues. Yes, the Frame can support 200 people at one time and around 1,800 people in one day. Which is why everything follows a regimented structure. When you reach the sky deck, you have 15 minutes to explore, till you move down from the opposite side of the frame.
My favorite was certainly the sky deck walk. If you are scared of heights, this might make you a little dizzy. But, it surely was a treat for my adventurous soul. You get to see the ground and children playing from 150m (492 ft. high).
The next and the last stage is walking through a time warp swirl tunnel into Dubai 50 years from now. The futuristic museum tour starts with a mesmerizing 3D animated video of a technologically driven city, dominated by robots and machines managing 70% of our daily work. No doubt, this was an experience on its own. No, doubt, this is exactly how I picture this city into... running on escalators rather than roads, flying cars, and whatnot.
Our excitement was at another high, as we walked through the corridors of the futuristic museum, watching the video playing on screens on either side I worked on as a producer, and hubby directed the video. This was THE MOMENT we wanted to experience.. walking by it as another lot of people were waiting to go through. Yes, a little disappointed as we were not even allowed a single selfie with our piece of work. Yet, I feel proud of my little contribution to the project. The most I can do now is urge family and friends to visit the Dubai Frame and send us their love from there. I would definitely love to hear from you all who visit to send me your feedback.
A glimpse of the video can be seen from the Gulf News footage taken during the press launch.
And that is pretty much the whole tour. Certainly an experience as a resident and as well as a tourist.

This picture was captured during my visit to a school next to the Railway Station in Kotri, Sindh. A yellow bricked wall school, with classrooms as small as housing 10 students, broken benches, no lights, sewerage water flowing through with no stress laid on Hygiene.
Most of the classes were being conducted under the open Verandah, due to lack of proper classrooms with proper ventilation.
This school was visited to conduct a needs assessment survey before the school is adopted by a private organization, who as a caretaker of the school is in a better position to provide the basic facilities to the students of this school. A prestigious program of Adopt-a-School is being run under the guidance of Prof. Anita Ghulam Ali to give some hope to these children for their future. All these schools are government schools, which have been abandoned and left in such shabby conditions.
Help by adopting a government school, and providing an education to the future of your country. Do not wait for change to happen; Be the Change!
