Going inactive for now
I don't have the time or motivation to run a proper writing blog and won't for the foreseeable future, mostly because I'm working on my thesis. Sorry to those of you who are just getting interested from that popular post I made. I'm not deleting, because I might want to come back, and I'm not abandoning my ideas, I just won't be here doing it anymore.

Hi, I'm writing two books with a transgender male and a non-binary (respectively. The first one is part of a series) and I would love to hear some tips for writing both without being offensive if you don't mind.
Hi, yeah, I’m happy to talk about this any time. First note: In my experience (as an nb person), generally “a non-binary” isn’t how most of us refer to ourselves. A nonbinary person is my go-to, or an enby. Don’t ask me why “a non-binary” sounds weird to me, but it does lol.
I don’t really know what kind of tips you’re looking for, but I’m happy to chat with you about specific questions that you have concerning the characterization of your trans man and nb person.
Off the top of my head some things to avoid in general are:
-Fetishizing/focusing too much on anatomy/genitalia
-Forcibly outing your characters, esp. in an nonconsensual/traumatic way
-Treating trans men as if they’re somehow not real men/Man Lite™. Oftentimes this is something we as writers have to fix internally. Make sure you always think of him as a man and not Something Else. He doesn’t “want to be a man,” he is one. If you train yourself to leave behind the transphobia society teaches us mentally, then that will likely translate to your writing
-Gosh, idk about the nonbinary one. I’ve seen so little representation of people like me that I… don’t know what’s out there to avoid. Maybe I’m just blanking right now. The not-fetishizing us thing still applies here. If you have any concerns about specific things you’re not sure of, hmu and we can talk more :)

In the book I'm working on, one of the main characters is explicitly a lesbian. Her name is Dawn and she is one of two major characters that are human. She comes out to her best friend, the protagonist Ruth, and they go to the school dance together.

How I think I’m writing: Using eye contact, or lack thereof, to display emotions such as intimacy, shock, denial, or nervousness.
How I’m actually writing: She looked at me, and I looked away. I tried to look back, but she was already looking at the sky. “Look,” she sighs, looking back at me for a split second. “I don’t know how to say this.” We looked at each other and time stopped, but then she looked her lookers at something else to look at, looking tired.

Cheesy trope I unironically love: character gets poisoned and has to race against the clock to find an antidote. Bonus points for the bad guy monologuing about the side effects, probably in order of when they'll happen
Current Mood
I love characters who get to be frail and fragile physically, who solve problems with their minds or their hearts. I love characters who couldn't win in hand-to-hand combat. There are other reasons they're formidable. Maybe it's because I'm physically weak myself, I don't know. I think we're conditioned to see more worth in characters who have cool fight scenes and can, idk, shoot a gun and kick ass, but I can never get enough of characters who have to find another way.
Modern AU Count of Monte Cristo but it’s the Countess of Monte Cristo and when Edmond goes off to prison she realizes she’s trans and then her mentor/cellmate tells her where he hid his biggest score from that last bank heist or w/e so when she gets out she becomes ungodly rich and fully transitions and comes back determined to get revenge but hindered by her lingering feelings for her former fiancée.
When her son finds out Fernand that scheming Bastard isn’t his real father he’s like “who is??” And she’s just like “you don’t have a father” and Albert’s like “whaaa??”
Meanwhile Mercedes is like “you just seem really familiar. What Is it.”
She still gets into a sword fight with Fernand and wins tho
