honestly i can’t hate tony stark because he has understandable issues about being in control/having lack of control due to the fact that he grew up without a solid family unit and his father was neglectful and his friend obadiah betrayed him and he always means to do the right thing but in his mind that involves him controlling everything so nothing can go wrong which is 100% the opposite of what steve stands for because steve has ultimate faith in people while tony “the mechanic” only trusts himself and what he creates with his own hands because for all of his life people have only ever betrayed him

and this is why tony believes locking wanda in the compound is a good idea and why the accords are necessary because all his life he’s only really been able to trust himself and he always has good intentions but kind of fucks it up every time because he hasn’t realised that sometimes you just need to let go and trust people and that’s why i love tony stark because it’s really tragic and what he desires most is for everyone to stick together but that involves everyone following what he wants (like with ultron) and steve cannot abide by that because steve has a very defined set of rules for himself which go rigorously against allowing a certain group to decide things on other people’s behalf which is why he couldn’t endorse the idea of project insight

so nobody is in the wrong but nobody is right either and frankly this is why i kind of hate how tumblr seems to have this mindless hatred of tony and a blind endorsement of steve when really both of them are hilarious fuckups because steve only gives a damn about one thing and that’s bucky and that’s arrogant and steve is ready to throw everyone else under the bus for bucky which you could interpret as romantic but is ultimately dangerous and the fact that steve lied to tony’s face about not knowing bucky was the assassin? is awful and he shouldn’t have done it.

so i mean, i love them both, but i really wish i could just gently cup both of their cheeks and whisper “stop.”
