When you can see someone actually drift away from you, it’s truly painful. And when I say see, I mean you can read your messages from a month ago and realize how much longer the conversations would last, and how much quicker the responses are, and how many times they called you baby and beautiful. Or how they hardly ever ask to hang out now but back then it was an everyday thing. Okay, but also: if you see a Muslim praying in public and they have something in front of them, like a purse or a bag or something like that, you can pass in front of them, but pass in front of that object.

it’s called a sutrah, and it’s meant to act as a physical barrier between the person praying and someone who might happen to pass in front.
